debian is pretty neat i guess

Horray, it's not Slackware.
Hoooray, it's not made by the node/npm devs.
That's it, I guess.

The logo is cool.
Also Mint exists thanks to Debian.
Might install it, actually.

Deborah is a slut. RIP Ian.

Thank you for KDE Neon, Debian.
Or, as I call you, "" + "".

i don't like apt

People keep saying this without ever backing it up. Why don't you like it?
>inb4 bloat

Too many different APT/dpkg tools working in different ways, and screwing with each other's dependency trees.
Too many extra features, such as 'apt-file', that aren't included in the base tools.
Packaging guidelines are confusing enough that it's not worth the effort for self-compiled software.
Generally slow compared to other package managers.
Services are automatically enabled after installation.
The Debian Alternatives system allows maintainers to recommend an application be set as your default after install.

...

i just go to packages.debian.org i'm not fucking with aptitude

Did Ian get blacked?

Same. When it chokes, it's all over. Hate it.

>apt-get
What's not to get?

With a nightstick in the pooper.

I wouldn't know, I preemptively added pti=off to my kernel command line.

Spaghetti

stallman.org/archives/2006-may-aug.html#05 June 2006 (Dutch paedophiles form political party)

Why? Do you think no one can see the #?

I fucked up. It's screenfetch's fault because screenfetch reads the generic label and not the actual kernel installed. At least on my machine.

>4.15 is available on debian now
it wasn't there a couple of weeks ago

Hey. I have a queestion about APT. Iwant to install a package with several recommends and exclude a single recommended package. If I use the --no-install-recommends, all the recommended packages will be excluded. For example if there is a package A and X, Y and Z are recommends, is there an option like "install A --ignore X" that will install A package alogn with Y and Z but skipping X?

Deprecated, use Devuan.

More like Soybian

Go away.

It's God like

What does Debian have that Ubuntu does not?

Why should I use Debian? (I'd rather use Devuan)

You have to go back.

>anyone I dont agree with is Sup Forums

but there's also apt.

And you can't mix them together.

It has not bloatware

People in a technology board thinking screenshots of a website hold any ground.

These 12 year olds need to go.

Use apt when on the terminal. It's meant to look good. Use apt-* for scripts.

>you know anything about tech or Sup Forums
You have to go back.

bump this question

they should really replace the backports repo with PPAs. Also PPAs/multiple versions of proprietary graphics drivers. Other than that i have no objections.

It doesn't spy.

Stable on server
Sid on desktop

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koalemos
Indeed.

This.
It's the only distro released when it's ready

i have that sticker, tasteful af. wish whoever made them kept doing shit like that

My daily distro is Debian, and I've gave up on fixing some apt fuckups in my PC. I can't use any program of the Libre Suite, because that fucking manager did some devilish shit that is unfixable. And that's for me, a very experienced G/L user. Never seen anything like that with pacman and portage.

Debian is exactly like God: never answered me even in my most desperate moments, and makes me want to kill a kid.

Recently did a Debian install, so still running pretty fresh. Any cool shit to check out?

How much RAM do you guys consume on a normal basis? Thinking of hoping over.

Around 512M without web browser

It seems very easy to get apt into a bad state (especially if something chokes on install, there's no easy way to tell apt to ignore the fucked up package.. the half-installed thing will run EVERY SINGLE TIME you try to do anything with packages later).

Never had that problem with rpm/yum/dnf

there's a bunch of ways, remove it with the dpkg --force options, fix the post-install script, mark it as configured if you know the post-install script isn't important, etc

>rpm/yum/dnf
>the sign of a rhel cuck

dpkg --force still invokes the postinstall/uninstall scripts and will fail, and yeah while you can manually edit the package database, this goes back to what I said about "easy".

There really needs to be a --skip-post-scripts option.

bump question

its ok but they should not autostart daemons after install.

I think dselect can make it ignore it.

apt install --no-install-recommends muhmainpackage muhrecommendedpackage
You should really have figured this out on your own.

apt-get install A X-

my sides

The best way to prevent aptitude into turning a simple 5MiB innocent program into a lovecraftian horror is just typing "emerge $program"

How do I create a samba share that requires AD authentication on Debian 9?

Linus Torvalds said its too hard to install

only if you're an idiot, you can install it with GUI prompts.

New CoC says white men are no longer allowed to use Debian, please find another distribution.

>using a GUI

winbabby detected

This, debian has never failed me since 2003

I have been using it since 2007.

which version are my fellow debianons using? stable? sid?

Wow they're not even hiding that Debian is a cult.
