The plot itself is tryhard and predictable. The characters are shallow. The cinemetography is bland. The only reason it's even remotely popular is the "realistic portrayal of hackers" hype that skiddies and orbiters fetishize.

What makes hackers enjoyable to watch? It's not taking itself seriously. What makes Mr. Robot painful to watch? It's taking itself seriously. That speech that ended season 1 sounded like something a high-schooler wrote, and they presented it with zero self awareness.
i got bored after 4 episodes. the whole "super hacker tries to free the world" premise is pretty lame. not to mention the whole relationship stuff was just painful to sit through. would be much more entertaining to just watch how hackerman is slowly diving into insanity while doing shady computer shit
the only reason why i even watched halfway through season 1 was because they had some good cliffhangers but they fucked even that up by solving them with boring shit
