The fact that 2020 is so close actually scares me for some irrational reasons. Fucking 2010 was right here just yesterday.

2009-11 Sydney Australia had a world class psych scene.

Now our corrupt govt has cut funding to arts and put curfew for all venues, forcing most places that hosted bands to put in poker machines and sports betting and reject live music to make up for lost revenue.
Local music scene in general is dying

nice quads

Shame about garage rock, but it never lasts that long, because its a dead end genre that is too formulaic and has not evolved.

any recordings?

>lost revenue
>corrupt govt
please tell me why cutting an unprofitable welfare programme is an evil thing automatically to be blamed on 'the man', man.
you're a fucking communist, mate.

They are corrupt, not because of that though. Just saying, they did cut the arts and impose the lockout (the latter being blatant corruption if you read into it), and that has led to the live music scene becoming a shell of its former self

I'm with you. Time is going by way too fast.

>unprofitable

Punk back in 2006. Was really into the music and the scene. Ending up dropping the fad by 2010. Had some good times going to shows and getting my ass kicked in the pits. Still listen and rep some bands today. Just a lot I still wouldn't. Still have a soft spot for local CA bands, though.

True, I remember when I could see bands like the growlers, or ty segall for 5 bucks at a bowling alley or house party. I want to go back damn it.

Post your favs, let's reminisce together.

providence is still pretty ok

a lot of our diy spaces are gone, the mill soaces basically extinct due to gentrification, and a lot of the folks who were here for the first wave of that in the 90s accuse everyone trying to keep it alive of "roleplaying 90s providence". I missed the original scene back then, and by the time I started going to shows a few years ago the new spaces had all started dying out. last high profile mill space was evicted a few months ago, and there was some nastiness around the whole ordeal because of the way the tenants tried to fight back, some people saw it as them putting others in those old buildings at risk of evoction etc

still a bunch of great bands and musicians here, just not a ton of cool places to play at the moment. whether the warehouse scene will revive yet again remains to be seen, but there's rumors that a lot of those buildings are getting "developed" so I'm not getting my hopes up. Not the same as it once was but still good, don't think it will ever really die. Boston is a lot more active though, as is Western Mass.

Someone posted this earlier. I wish Punk wasn't totally cucked today. I wish I could have lived the 80's punk scene desu.

garage is shit y'all

youtube.com/watch?v=pWXUVK_F82c
pure cancer

classic records released 20 years before you found them are not your "scene"

>tfw only got to see Thee Oh Sees once with the original lineup
>never got to see Segall in a DIY space when he was good
>that shit was all popping off like a year before I started going to shows
>current underground diy trends don't foster the same energy and partying as late-00s/early-10s garage

I like moping in basements as much as the next guy but come on where's all the house party music

>FIDLAR
>ever

I'm with you, Fidlar sucks. Never liked them, but growing up in the bay with bands like thee oh sees, culture kids, ty, and fresh and onlys was pretty cool.

>tfw never had a scene

you don't know shit about punk and the fact that you say it's "cucked" today tells me you never even listened to DKs

I saw the original Oh Sees lineup too, seriously mind blowing how good they were together. I feel like Dwyer only plays with these kids now to pay the bills.
It'l happen one day user.

>tfw lives in 10k people town and the only band we have plays acoustic covers of rap songs

first concert I went to was in providence in 2014 and it's still the best one I've gone to

yeah, the whole move to LA really feels like cashing in on Burger trends. I was lucky enough to see them at 285 Kent in Brooklyn, which would end up being one of their last shows together and one of the last shows at the venue. Setiously unbelievable how good they were as a live band and I still hold out hope that he'll get the old lineup back together someday. Brigid was on the last album so it's not impossible.

but

>tfw he'll never move back to Providence
>no Pink & Brown reunion
>Coachwhips reunion didn't actually tour

Nostalging pretty hard, gonna post some stuff that I was extremely into back then, if anyone wants to hear.

>cont

at The Met

who'd you see/where?

>that feel when there never was a scene, at least in my lifetime
Some punk shows here and there but proper scene? No

youtube.com/watch?v=1_jXA7YpfqU

garage rock SUCKED

I went to some of those Bay Area garage events. hated that shit.

er, no offense.

none taken, just curious who did you see?

Earl Sweatshirt and Ratking
look at the post right above yours

Also praying for this to happen, I miss Brigid and Petey. New kids suck.
One day maybe ; -;

I was at that, it was pretty sick. The Met is a little weird because even when it sells out, the room is fucking huge so it'll just be a tightly packed group around the stage and then loads of dead space. Security has also calmed down quite a bit the past few years as well, they kinda just let people do their thing now. Sound is always excellent there.

Check out some more of the local shows around here, there's great stuff all the time. Some of the best shows I've ever been to have been What Cheer? Brigade or Black Pus playing in streets, or my friends playing in grungey-ass old warehouses, and so on.

youtube.com/watch?v=mwyAGJDRgpI
Best thing to come from either project. They only performed the songs live a couple of times but it really was crazy.

I'm hoping for it. I'd organize house shows or something if i had a place to do so

That's the only ways scenes start, do it dude.

Welfare is not supposed to be profitable.
It's supposed to be humane.

The problem is that i have no place for that nor the money to rent something, but maybe in the future i can do it.

>humane
move to Russia, bernie

>social welfare
>for profit

How cucked by Ayn Rand do you have to be to think this

what's the point otherwise?

of course pol had to ruin this thread

>scenes
Pffft

>applying economic terms to government administration

kek why do righties keep trying to do this?

you're right, government should just be giving rich people's money away

Melbournes better

I mourn for the scene that never was.

When I was 13 years old listening to Pixies and Pavement I fantasized about some magical indie land where everyone liked good jams and played in bands. It was all a fucking lie.

curfue is pointless, isnt the zoneing law just outside of some huge ass casino or something that?

I live in Columbus and my friend is in a band and I swear our fucking music scene sucks cock. Buncha high school bands and cheap college shit.

If you don't like socialism then go live to Dubai. There's no such thing as taxes in there, but if you need to go to a hospital you will have to make like everyone else: Create a facebook page for e-begging to pay the bill afterwards.

Ha! My scene (Perth, Australia) has to be the worst scene. You have a bunch of dickheads playing acoustic guitar and some random chicks who front rock cover bands (they always have a degree or certificate in production or something along those lines)

>Girls fronting bands

Is there a shittier gimmick out there? Not that girls can't front bands but it's so obvious when the band has nothing else than "lol we have a cool rock chick"

myspacecore was a pretty damn great scene in retrospect

>he thinks health insurance saves you money

I wish i could go back to the underground days of techno in France, now the techno events are full of highscoolers dabbing and doing others meme dance moves while wearing meme outfits. They are only there because it's in right now and because of the drugs, it's really sad to see. We still have the teknival though, it's still too hardcore for the memekids

they suck so hard, they normally tremolo every note and just sustain shit like those contenstants on singing shows.

Its a shame honestly. I just want an innovative scene. Also most women have the same voice when they since this sort of stuff (imo)

>when they since this sort of stuff
wtf am i reading?

i'm in providence right now what is there to do

Sorry I'm dumb, what went down in SF during 2010? If it's what I'm thinking I thought it happened earlier.

read the original, im implying rock covers

there's a tite garage show @ aurora tomorrow
or
pinkwash/others @ a bowling alley in cranston tomorrow

u fukd up guerilla toss was here last week

>Northern Finland
>nothing but death metal for as long as I can remember

it makes me sick just to read this

Jello Biafra would agree with the other user

go listen to country you cultureless red neck

>opposing welfare makes you a red neck
>welfare is cultivating culture
>country is bad
how can one shitposter be so wrong?

b8

how is this b8?
you're a fucking communist

>Live in CT
>Literally nothing except for wannabe hip hop artists
>All the cities with interesting scenes (NYC, Boston, Providence) are too long of a drive to make participating worthwhile

I hate this shithole state.

>interesting scenes
>IMPLYING

Everything is infinitely more interesting than Connecticut. Whitesvale, Appalachia is probably more interesting than Connecticut.

i can assure you he would not agree with a Sup Forums edgekid

breh there's loads of shit in ct

it's a fucking pit but there are good bands there

>flyover city I will not name, 2002
>massive and wild punk/hardcore diy scene
>weekly shows in random rented spaces
>straight-edge vs drunk punk war
>wwe-style mic addresses by frontmen in the middle of shows
>hobos wander into shows
>get beaten and 86'd
>120-person group hugs
Was crazy, probably sounds gay to anybody from a real city, but was seriously awesome at the time. Like living in a b-movie.

sounds pretty gay

To be a genuinely good person who cares for others.

I unfollow you.

1. become a missionary
2. move to africa/middle east
3. leave your house/apartment to the first bum you see

Name the city you dweeb

i can't. i'm just a lil puss who likes to wear dresses.

Who hurt you to the point that this kind of behavior gives you any sense of fulfillment?

i once listened to the Clash

Shame, I was thinking of moving there instead of Boston.

YES!

CT gets siphoned out by the big cities neighboring it.

>it's a fucking pit but there are good bands there
That's because we're all really fucking desperate.

it's pretty much interchangable with boston because theyre so close, you just have to establish yourself early on in the one you don't live in while doing the same in the other. if I had a choice I'd probably pack up and move to Boston/Allston, but I'm way to fucking poor for that so Providence is fine. Easier to get noticed here anyway bc it's smaller, get to know people a lot easier just from going to shit.

>he thinks communism and socialism means stealing rich peoples money

i bet you're a holocaust denier as well

>but I'm way to fucking poor for that so Providence is fine. Easier to get noticed here anyway bc it's smaller, get to know people a lot easier just from going to shit.

This is why I was thinking Providence in the first place, desu. Also despite there being less DIY spaces, it's still pretty established for experimental music.

is this bait or do you literally not understand the difference between a system of helping the needy and a single act of charity?

what did he meme by this?

do you literally not understand that every penny i make belongs to me?
why do pinkos pretend to wanting to help people when they're just virtue signaling or/and covering their own lazy asses. you don't have to pretend on an anonymous board, faggot.

what does this have to do with anything?

>Socialism is a range of economic and social systems characterised by social ownership and democratic control of the means of production, as well as the political ideologies, theories, and movements that aim at their establishment.

>In political and social sciences, communism (from Latin communis, "common, universal") is a social, political, and economic ideology and movement whose ultimate goal is the establishment of the communist society, which is a socioeconomic order structured upon the common ownership of the means of production and the absence of social classes, money, and the state

Can you tell me where in that definition it states that taking the money of the wealthy is a vital aspect of socialism or communism?

denying communism strips people of their wealth is as outrageous as denying the holocaust

>lolbertarians actually believe this

>Sup Forums

>ownership of capital

>redistribution is not a key part of communism because it's not in the description I just put together
nigga pls

Denial of facts doesn't change them user

I often think about my time spent in the hardcore/punk and thrash metal scene of 2008-2012 up in New Hampshire. A lot of nights spent drinking cheap alcohol and listening to bands who didn't even have names.
A complete lack of venues meant house shows and mill shows. Great times, though I hated the music.

Glad to be a part of the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill scene right now.

Ayn Rand is a shit author
good luck not being a lolbertarian when Bill Ayers' BFF raises the health insurance costs before he leaves the office
