ITT: first filesharing websites/programs

What were some of the first filesharing sites/programs you've seen or used? The first one i saw was limewire, my older brother used it on our family computer in the early to mid 2000's.

I used KaZaA as a kid that shit was tight

napster and kazaa when I was in highschool
used limewire too
now I use waffles.fm

Yeah, same here. I moved to eMule pretty quick though.

use to use azureus vuze

I've been through it all

warez sites
irc rooms that had downloads
napster
kazaa
winmx
oink
now i use waffles

Only one I never got into was usenet

Limewire for the longest time. I'm not sure I used anything else between that and torrents

Kazaa. First download was some red hot chilli peppers track back in 98-99, iirc.

When did limewire shut down? i was a lil too young to really get how to use it when it was at its peak, and by the time i started using sites of my own it wasnt there.

2010

Idk, I stopped using it in favor of bittorrent by 2006-07. The "peak" of LimeWire wasn't all that great. Downloads were slow and you weren't always sure of what you were gonna get

Kazaa and Limewire. There was another one I used briefly in between but can't recall the name. I just remember there were all these chat rooms it linked to and it freaked me out.

Damn how old are you user? And how difficult was it to get full albums back in the earlier days?

not that guy but I remember downloading full albums song by song on dial-up
you had to be commited and took for fucking ever and you'd get inconsistent bit rates or some songs were just not available
fucking sucked, but it was free

I'm 28

I never got into music until I was a teen so I downloaded singles until I was older

i used limewire for a long time, was about 12, i may or may not of downloaded child porn because i didnt want to see old people in the porn but girls my age...

Warez then Soulseek and Direct Connect

Gnucleus - the patrician one

kazaa, winmx, limewire.

My dad downloaded "Spooky Scary Skeleton" and played it outside during Halloween back in the early 2000's before it became a meme. I still have the CD he burned it to.

My uncle showed me how he used Napster and fuck was it ever slow

He said it was easier for songs from years back that he wanted and using the public library's CD collection for albums was easier

napster, ares lite, bearshare lite, limewire, frostwire, then torrents

Napster using a 56k modem. Albums took all night to download if the phone didn't disconnect. Set it to download and go to bed, hopefully it's done in the morning. Then bearshare, shareaza, torrents, and now Usenet.

Bearshare mainly as a kid.

Am I the only one who never used limewire/etc when I was younger but actively use slsk now? I got a What account four years ago and have used it pretty much exclusively. When I was a dumb kid I just listened to EDM streams while playing Runescape.

Winmx, I enjoyed the chat rooms also. Here's something I just learned the other day, Steve Jobs had a bunch of people that came from Napster work on iTunes, and Sean Parker from Napster created Spotify. It must be a kick in the teeth to all those record label guys who got so buttmad at the advent of filesharing and refused to cooperate with Napster to legitimize and monetize it. Those kids knew that there was no stopping the collapse of the old system.

I use to watch gay porn on this while looking for straight porn with my 4 buddies with smaller dicks the mine. Those were the days.

So when I use my Spotify, it's a tiny little piece of Napster? Warms the cockles of my heart.
