what VM program should I use? I'd like a software that has shared folders
I checked out VMWare but it reeks of botnet

How do I configure a samba share on a Debian 9 box to use Active Directory user authentication?

VMWare is fine.

ok thank

Thank you.
I just have one more question; I have been meaning to make the switch from Chrome for a while now.
Should I just install the current version of Iridium that is on their website, or should I wait for a Windows binary to be uploaded for 64.x from ungoogled chromium?

A website requires sms-authentication before I can post. Is there any way to fake this, like a site with a phone number you can provide to the first website that will allow you to see the authentication code?

Anyone? I'm about to do a reinstall of Windows to rule out anything software-related. Would it be reasonable after that to conclude that the GPU's have somehow managed to both fail at the exact same time?

some months ago i found some and a few free ones but don't know how well [if at all] they work

wait for a Windows binary to be uploaded for 64.x from ungoogled chromium

I have a 128gig sd card in my phone and I don't know what to fill it up with, I don't need music since I have the google cloud, also have spotify and sirius/xm radio. I don't need movies because I have netflix and plex etc... porn?

try ubuntu gnome live cd before that

>wait for a Windows binary to be uploaded for 64.x from ungoogled chromium
That is what I thought too, but I would like to switch as soon a possible and according to the github issues, I have no idea when that will be the case.

So I run a dual boot of Win10 and Kali.
Booted to Windows the other day and when I rebooted my machine to go to Kali it won't allow me to.
Whenever I try to select Kali as a an option in my bios the screen flickers and goes back to Bios boot selections.
I suspect it's a problem with GRUB but I can't seem to fix the issue.
The following is my partition table:

I have booted to a Kali live usb for the time being and a lot of guides ask to use grub-install with terminal but it looks like it doesn't exist as a command and there are no man pages.

I'm not even too sure if it is a grub issue but loading to Kali will fail.
Anyone got any advice with GRUB?

that's a good idea, thanks. potentially save me a big pain in the ass.

What's the difference between BASH and ZSH

Slackware or Manjaro for development

So...

I corebooted my x220 and now I can't boot windows from seabios.

what do?

If I wanted to try out Linux in a VM which VM software should I use?
Anyone use Linux in a VM on a Windows machine? What do you do with it?

Linux VM on Windows, use it in a home lab. VMWare Workstation.

help me on this one
1 computer with 4 case fans is running a game at 140 degrees, if I take the computer of te case and remove the case fans will it run at the same degree playing the same game?

guys I just ram memtest86 and I got like 10,000 errors, actually i got so many errors it said "Test has been aborted due to too many error", is it time to get new ram or could there be something else causing the ram to malfunction?

Cpu net seated, memory not seated, esd damage etc etc
Only way to know is to isolate the issue by swapping out parts
Test each ramstick one by one

Can't say.
Unless it's a well designed high-end case, you will usually be cooler running outside the case (or with the side of the case open) than closed up with only fans for ventilation.

Performance aside, are dual core CPUs still usable for gaming? I remember some titles like Far Cry 4 preventing you from running the game if you had a dual core processor, and I was wondering if there are any other games that followed suit. Or have developers removed the core limitation altogether? I'm sure they stopped making non-HT dual cores altogether by now.

Is it safe to expose your IP (for example, while torrenting) if your operating system hasn't been patched for Meltdown?

thanks for the help user, glad you could understand the question with my brain damage :)

Yes.
Meltdown would require access to your processor's cache and microsecond timing info. So you're vulnerable to apps running on your machine finding a way to get higher permissions or data they shouldn't have. It doesn't open a backdoor to your computer over the internet.

my windows 7 PC is starting to piss me off. everything works fine except the filesystem is starting to shit itself on me. I've got an SSD, 120GB with the OS on it and some programs that just autoinstall to the C:\ Drive and it's also full of random files that happen when all the programs on the PC decide to take a shit in my SSD. I have an HDD, 2TB with all my media and most of my programs installed there.

I'm thinking of starting clean with a better SSD (mine is a TLC SSD, I was figuring on getting a SLC SSD with more storage, maybe one of the samsung evo models) and reinstalling windows.

My question is what's the best way to keep a very organized system from the start? I have programs failing to run or install left and right because they can't find some dependency or some shit.

>safe to expose your IP while torrenting

no

im curious, how is page file being on an ssd affect it's longevity?

best rss feed manager for win7?
something like rssowl would be good, i've been using it for a while now but it seems to shit itself after a couple months of neglect and my stupid ass just realized now that it's abandoned.

I want my 1950X to last at least 3-4 years as that's when I usually want an upgrade. Is 1.2875v @ 4GHz good to last that long?

It pretty much doesn't unless you have ridiculously small RAM and somehow insist on doing hugely memory intensive things all the time. The only thing most normal users can do to put serious mileage on a SSD is hibernate 6 times a day.

1.4 is the ceiling according to AMD so you should be good. Put it at 1.385v and see how far you can push the clocks.

>Only 1 dev on whole project

Holy shit that is not how you want your browser maintained.

I'm thinking of getting a ~4TB hard drive for things like games, movies, etc.
I've got 2 main drives in mind
>4TB Hitachi 7200RPM 128MB $199 (AUD)
>4TB Seagate 5400RPM 256MB $148 (AUD)
I know, I'll probably get memed with >seagate, but is there a difference at all? I don't know shit about hard drives.

If i wanted the mobo to last, whats a good temp to stay under for a NorthBridge?

Apparently I had 70C as a fail safe to turn off the computer. Using a heavily modified MadVR for anime with MPC, and watching a movie makes it hit 70 after about an hour and twenty. CPU was at 55-60. I bumped it up to 80.

i have @import "

eh, think I'll go 4GHz at 1.3 just to please a little bit of autism.

Best config for watching anime in MPV? (just post the optimal config that fits my hardware, pic related, or post your config, whatever works).

I'm completely illiterate when it comes to coding and I try not to fiddle with shit I don't completely understand.

This shit happens in Audacity whenever I try to use trim silence. What can I do about this?

Any good, open source screen recording app for android 4.2? I have root if that matters. Non open source is fine too.

okay, so i installed Win 10 LTSB and ran some Sup Forums debotnetting script from wiki and now i get the continuous cycle of downloading updates and updates failing to install.
i get it every day it's frustrating.
how do i either update it or prevent it from updating at all?
yesterday one user suggested WSUSoffline but that doesn't work for some reason (permission denied, even with admin privileges)

ScreenCam

How safe is the Iso Zone? Just looking for some very old games

>ScreenCam
>works on all phones with Android Lollipop 5.0 and above
Mmm. gonna give it a try.

i downloaded some asmr videos with true 3d audio designed to cause goose bumps at the slightest breath
they usually only work when it's at its highest quality possible
i thought i'd save at least half the space it takes up by converting them all to mp3s (there wasn't much to look at in the first place)
just wondered how much it would affect the sound quality, if at all

is it ok to let my cat eat earwigs?

i'm turning an old laptop into a torrent machine that i'll just run overnight, what's the best os for this?
is there an os dedicated to torrents?

If they're already using lossy compression, it will be noticeable worse. If they're lossless, it will be indistinguishable provided you use a high enough bitrate.

anything works dude. GNU/Linux distro with Transmission works the best I guess (Debian, because it's lightweight by default so your laptop will last a night when/if the power goes off.
also bumping my question

>highest quality possible
You can go surprisingly low on the bitrate and most people can't perceive a difference in audio quality. Midrange headphones/speakers generally aren't good enough to manifest better sound anyway.

I'd be surprised if you could tell the difference between FLAC, MP3 320 and MP3 V0 in a blind test. You could probably go lower, but V0 is pretty efficient. Use LAME. Like other annon said, if they're already in a lossy format, converting them is bad juju.

There's plenty of googleable shit there bro.

is there a way to multiseat two different operating systems on one pc?

Sure, just multiseat VMs

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiseat_configuration#Virtualization-based_setup

>virtualization
you mean like virtualbox?
last time i tried that it was slow as shit and ran at like 5 fps
i must be understanding or doing something wrong

I bought a used Xeon E3-1290v2 (Ivy Bridge, LGA1155, no integrated gpu), but it won't even post, no image on the screen (dvi-d connection). No beeps.

Fans on cpu, gpu and psu spin.
Sometimes they stop right away 2 seconds after I turn the pc on and sometimes they won't stop spinning unless I hold the power button for quite a bit - 10 + seconds

Ofcourse I updated the motherboard BIOS to the last one(~2014) and removed the cmos battery just before testing the new cpu...

I reseated the cpu once before trying out the old i3 cpu I was using before which booted right away. No scratching on the backside of the Xeon except a very thin shallow mark on three(3) and the little dot on the inside.
I'm typing on the pc right now.

Motherboard is a really cheaply made Asus H61.
On the CPU support list it has an Intel Xeon E3-1230 "since BIOS 0203" which is older than the one I have now.

Any suggestions? Or is the cpu dead? I didn't try removing the ram sticks or using the jumper itself to clear the real time clock (rtc) ram for the cmos (since I couldnt find the thing without a manual, though I did remove the battery)

also, the pc i'm using has one gpu with one hdmi and one dvi output, will this be enough? right now i'm using aster for windows and it works fine

How many stars are there in the sun?

there are more stars in the sun than atoms in the universe

It sounds like you don't understand anything about VMs. First, you need to enable virtualization in BIOS. Second, you need to do a GPU passthrough if you want good gaming performance. Not all hardware supports it. Virtualbox is mostly FOSS, but isn't the most powerful, like VMware or Hyper-V. If you're using a version of windows that comes with it, I'd go with hyper-v.

guys this is super important. i lose 5 mins of my life daily because of Microshit and I have tons of games which I don't want to re-download but have no enough space for backup.

My WD external hard drive started making a buzzing, humming noise. I ejected it from the USB 3.0 port, plugged it back in and same thing. Then I plugged it into a USB 2.0 port and now there is no humming/buzzing. What could be happening here?

Whats so bad about Internet Explorer? Is there danger in using it in Windows 7 ?
Also is it possible to have Edge in win7? id like to try it

>you don't understand anything about VMs
yes
>enable virtualization in bios
my bios doesn't support that, am i fucked or is there a workaround?

What's the point of doing anything? Is asking that submitting myself to the will of those in power above me?

alright, it's installed on the laptop. any way to turn the screen off while still being able to torrent?

Unlikely. What's your processor and mobo?

Reinstall windows and don't use the janky script this time.

Is there any way to make vnstat ignores/excludes lan/wlan connection and only records internet connection?

motherboard: pegatron 2ad5
cpu: intel i5 3570k
also i don't plan to game on either of workstations

Nothing really. Its rep is from the old days. Now it just lacks some design perks and most addons that third party browsers have. Not really, it lacks some of the security improvements of newer versions, but whether or not you're a retard about security is far more important. No.

What blog software do you think this website uses? Would it be jekyll? How would I check? I did try using WhatRuns. Thanks:

how to maintain ghostbsd up to date when a new release is out? what is the dist-upgrade equivalent?

I don't want to sound a troll but buy a windows 8.1 copy for 25 bucks (original key from ebay/internet) and be free of windows 10
Your best option is to ignore ALL updates and simply disable windows update in the services menu and don't even try to download from other sources like wsus

Yeah, your processor definitely supports VT-x. Go back and look through your BIOS options line by line. VT-d is out though, so no passthrough. VMs should still work well for most lighter applications though.

If efficiency is your main concern you're probably better off sticking with aster and the one kind of OS per PC.

Why do Android apps have names like com.x.x?

To avoid collisions and shill for the publisher's domain name.

>wsus
assuming you're referring to wsus offline, you can't shorten to just "wsus"
wsus is the name of a service in windows server (Windows Server Update Service) which centralizes updates in businesses, wsus offline is intended as an offline alternative to wsus

Do you guys know if there's any way of seeing when a document shared on onedrive was accessed ?

I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as WSUS Offline, is in fact, WSUS or as I've recently taken to calling it, Windows Server Update Service. WSUS Offline is not a software unto itself, but rather another .exe bundled component of a fully functioning Windows Server made useful by the Microsoft server, http fast direct link and open and free offline installation.

Many computer users run a modified version of the Windows every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of WSUS which is widely used today is often called "WSUS Offline" , and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the WSUS + copy/paste http link, developed by the Microsoft engineers

There really is a Windows Server Update Service Offline, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the wsus they use. Wsus is the core software: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The offline software called ''WSUS offline'' is an essential part for piratefags, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete fully functional Windows authentication system process. Wsus Offline is normally used in combination with the Windows 10 OS : the whole offline software is basically a live version of WSUS with mirrors added

Why did you remove your post?

Subscription-based services that cut off your access immediately when you cancel your recurring subscription rather than letting you keep access until your paid term is up should be illegal.

How do I get rid of these (pic related) without clearing all history and resetting autofill data?

I just want to get rid of these specific ones... lol

Depends on the application.
If firefox, about:cache shows you the location
eg ~/.cache/mozilla/firefox//cache2 or something.
You could use grep to find that there are binary files which contains your words.
Then use a hex editor to edit them and see if it goes away

How do I make KDE Plasma open the launcher menu with a single press of the Super key? I am a Windows convert and find it aggravating that there's no simple way to do this by default.

Can i just backup magnet links of my torrents or should i backup .torrent files?

Buy? You can get sim cards for free.

Anything "higher than" opengl-hq, or whatever that profile's called now, is subjective. Look at mpv threads for configs, and you'll probably see a couple of settings that the majority of people use though.
Personally I'd backup .torrent files. I've had clients take ages to find what the torrent is with magnet links. Though, backing up magnet links as well shouldn't take up a significant amount of space anyway.
