Redpill me, what is the appeal in having a phone that costs $1,000 which will be replaced within 1~2 years?
I just don't understand why someone would even pay more than $400 for a phone. Is there ANY other type of technology that costs this much which gets replaced so frequently?
I agree, but that doesn't explain why it feels like every moron feels the need to brag about having an expensive phone IRL. I've seen some people even act like they're 'above' others, or technologically more advanced because of their dumb fucking phone. It's infuriating.
Landon Nelson
>costs $1,000 >$400 for a phone Apple has a profit margin that's unheard of thanks to their marketing, it's around 70% while Samsung barely manages around 20%. A $1000 Apple phone is actually a $300 phone so I guess that's $100 less than you think a phone should be worth. This is why iPhones are so crappy compared to similarly priced Android flagships. I find it quite funny that some regard an iPhone as some kind of "status symbol" ($1000 is nothing compared to a nice car or a house or just a fine apartment): To me it's just proof that someone is stupid enough to pay $700 extra for a $300 phone with some logo on it.
As for flagships in general: I've never bought one and found the idea of doing so beyond ridiculous because of the rapid rate phones have been improving. But this is changing, it seems to have stalled out. We're nearing a point where the new flagship 2 years from now will be just about the same as the ones released today.
Dominic Phillips
You've got to understand that the George Carlin quote about stupid people is absolutely true. "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize that half of them are stupider than that."
The majority of people are absolute fucking morons. When I worked at a hotel near an international airport it occurred to me, how do these mouth breathers survive on a day-to-day basis? How did they manage to wander on to an international flight with all of the correct paperwork? How did they manage to catch the correct shuttle to my hotel?
Christian Myers
Let's find out. Trump supporter? America is trash. Triggered? If so you're in the stupider half.
Blake Rivera
I don't see where political affiliation relates to my opinion regarding the general average human intelligence, but whatever. I voted Johnson and even then he was a shit candidate. The 2016 election cycle was a shitshow and Millennials need to get out and vote more to prevent another shitshow in 2020.
Samuel Murphy
> millenials Really falling for that?
I was more or less seeing if you were one of those "white ethnostate" retards that lurk on this board. They are a prime example of stupid.
Alexander Reyes
>$400 >for a phone
Joshua Cox
I'm not falling for anything about the "millennials don't vote" meme except that it's true. It's the largest demographic in terms of voting power yet the majority simply do not do so, yet complain so loudly about the state of things. My problem is people love to complain about things without offering a solution. If the problem is the people in charge, then the solution is to vote people you would prefer be in charge, not just complain about it on social media. Also Sup Forums was a mistake
Samuel Watson
i think the clinton supporters were stupider because of all the evidence of her / their misdoings and criminal activity and it being completely ignored. you have to be a special kind of brain dead head in the sand to accomplish that
Josiah Baker
It's true, I don't vote. Mainly for privacy reasons. Plus, I've yet to see a candidate that represents me.
The millenials that don't vote like myself do not settle like the older generation. I will not chose a lesser evil; I simply will not participate.
Parker Hill
Just got 2 note 4s for 240. Apple fags btfo
Caleb Robinson
its only replaced in 1-2 years if you replace it in 1-2 years you impulsive retard
Julian Williams
It WON'T be replaced in 2 years you stupid fuck. It will still get updates in 4 years and the hardware will easily last longer.
Jaxson Wilson
What I'm referring to isn't specifically the presidental election. I'm talking about everything, being involved in local and state politics. Washington DC is a bottom-up game that starts at the state level, so in order to get a presidential candidate you like, you have to support your local and state representatives. Presidential candidates don't just come from nowhere (except the retard in office right now).
But not voting because of "privacy"? Really? I don't want to say you're an idiot because you clearly aren't, but I must know why you feel that voting violates your privacy.
Clinton was a shit candidate even without the criminal investigation. Both Trump and Clinton were awful candidates. Like I said before I voted Johnson but I never really supported him, he was just the least of all the evils. Nibba didn't even know what or where Aleppo was.
Sebastian Jenkins
>It will still get updates in 4 years Yeah, updates to cripple its performance for some thin excuse that boils down to wanting you to buy a new one.
Adrian Howard
So iPhones are shit quality, but you've never bought a flagship? You literally admit to not having ever owned one? You pulled the profit margins out of your ass and you have no understanding of reality.
Ryan Williams
Entire point being that 'people' generally replace them every 1-2 years dummy.
Read above.
Julian Williams
To be fair you can hold onto an iOS device for longer since Apple actually provides support for older devices.
You'd be a damn fool to pay $1000 on a Note 8 or similar which will essentially be brick in 2 years. My S7 which is just about to turn 2 years old in a few weeks hasnt been updated from Samsung since October. I could flash a newer update which other regions have got but I lose a few features like VoLTE (I actually have to use my phone as a phone)
Id keep this S7 for another 2 years if I got regular security updates.
William Green
As opposed to only getting updates for 2 years and then being left to get fucked by whatever security holes are discovered after the fact, I'd take that even if the horseshit you just came up with was true.
Brandon Adams
Then don't be "people". You don't have to do what everyone else does.
Leo Sullivan
Your name and address are on voter reels that are regularly viewed by corps to harvest user data which includes name, address, and phone number. The only way to opt out is to unregister to vote.
Nathan Sullivan
>there's still a debate between android and apple
Apple is shit and anyone who has an apple product should kill himself
Leo Taylor
No shit. The entire point of the thread was asking WHY people do it. No clue how you missed it.
Leo Jackson
Unless you live off the grid then this likely happens anyway. Shit, even if you're off the grid it probably still happens. Why deny yourself the fundamental cornerstone of our country's democratic republic?
Evan Morris
They do it because they're stupid. That's a pointless question, OP was clearly trying to start shit, so don't pretend to care.
Easton Lopez
Because it's nor democratic first of all?
Owen Foster
It's not a democracy it's a democratic republic: we don't choose the laws, we choose the people who choose the laws.
Jack Wright
Gerrymandering, and lobbying, lack of public elections kills any democracy that you think we have.
Isaac Harris
>They do it because they're stupid I was looking for a more logical explanation than that obviously. Writing everything off I don't understand as 'stupid' comes off childish.
>OP was clearly trying to start shit I'm OP, and it was a genuine question. Now fuck off.
Bentley Murphy
So I ask you then, how do you propose we fix it? I've offered my suggestion; get out there and vote local and onwards.
Carter Barnes
Who said I want to fix it, or care, or even support it in it's current form? I'm waiting for collapse, revolution, or a state to secede. The fed is dead to me. I have no representation in Congress, I do not support them.
Owen Wilson
bought and later returned an iphone x last month. Only difference between it and previous models or androids is the bigger screen, unlocking with face detection and owning the newest trend hardware for social status, showing that you can afford it. Besides the face detection unlock, it has no technical advantages.
Jaxson Perry
It's the same thing with cars, people watch TV from age 2 to 20 and are brainwashed into craving expensive shit they saw in commercials and using that as a point of accomplishment to buy what they saw on the TV for decades.
Samuel Taylor
Fair, just don't complain when things get worse
Lucas Bell
Voter Rights Act doesn't require me to vote, nor does the first amendment.
So..... Deal with it
Tyler Ortiz
>To me it's just proof that someone is stupid enough to pay $700 extra for a $300 phone with some logo on it.
Women like rich and stupid.
Luke Nelson
No. Fuck you. Voting doesn't earn us rights.
Lincoln Smith
You're an idiot if you think voting doesn't grant rights. The right to vote has to be fought for and then fought for again to keep. But look if you don't want to vote, fine. Just be aware that Trump and all other shit candidates are on your hands. Do not complain about the government if you've done nothing to help solve it.
Robert Kelly
No. FUCK YOU. You don't have the authority to tell other people what to fucking do regardless of if they voted or not.
Camden Hernandez
More people should get out and vote their interests. Why doesn't congress represent you? Because you and too many others like you didn't go vote, while others did. Congress represents them.
Brayden Martin
>Just be aware that Trump and all other shit candidates are on your hands. I'm not into politics, but I thought Trump didn't win the popular vote? I thought him winning was due to Russian influence. It seems voting doesn't matter because the entire system is corrupt
Carson Gray
nah go fuck yourself if you dont appreciate the rights you get here, move to sudan or some shit like that
Jaxon Bell
I did vote, you dumb slut. That's not what this argument is about, you piece of shit.
Blake Allen
NO. FUCK YOU. You do not have any authority here. Do you understand what I am saying?
Josiah Long
WTF?
Sebastian Lee
Trump didn't win the popular vote. He won the way the US system has always worked -- by winning enough electoral votes across the 50 states, and these votes come from the majority of people voting for him in that state.
The Russian influence was stuff like Facebook posts and fake news stories intended to stir controversy, portray Hillary in a negative light to undecideds, and to encourage conservatives and those on the fence to get out and vote Trump.
Jaxson Lee
I think voting should be compulsory, like jury duty or Selective Service. And yes if you don't seek to find a solution to a problem then you have no right complaining about it.
The Electoral College is flawed. However I feel that States should have more autonomy over their own laws. In this way, the Electoral College's benefit of better representing rural voters would be negated on a State level.
Juan Harris
samefag
Gabriel Brooks
Also probably hacking voting machines since our election system is criminally insecure.
Kayden Campbell
The Bill of Rights is pretty clear that voting is not a prerequisite for the First Amendment. They actually do, expressly, have the right to complain regardless of whether they voted or not. Furthermore, abstention IS a valid vote in every system of parliamentary procedure that I've ever read.
Bentley Barnes
Possibly, though I recall exit polls being fairly in line with the outcome.
Speaking of, what drooling retard thought putting XP on voting machines was a good idea?
Apple's profit margins really are the highest in the industry. If you buy their products then you really do pay a third of the price for the actual product and two thirds for the logo. This isn't secret, it's very public information readily available on a bunch of investor-related sites.
Charles Collins
Yeah, that's because they can flip just enough votes to win without being blatant.
Jaxson Baker
The funny thing is you're both wrong, voting doesn't "grant us rights" (wtf?) because we are statistically insignificant compared to the amount of political influence the economic elite have in the United States. >pic related >Rep. Kevin Yoder (R-Kansas), shown speaking at an event in 2012, recently attached language originally drafted by lobbyists for CitiGroup to a financial services appropriations bill. Members of Congress who voted "yes" on the bill received, on average, 2.8 times more money from the PACs of CitiGroup, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, and JPMorgan Chase than members who voted "no."
I'm going to major in Computer Science and try to invest in order to campaign on a small enough scale to get started while in my 30s and after studying law. I just cant have a family or else it will ruin fucking everything. I feel so passionate, I at least want to be a senator.
Alexander Jenkins
Amendments can be made to the Constitution. Contrary to what Repubs believe, it is indeed a living document. While people who didn't vote may be able to complain in a literal sense, logically it doesn't make sense. If you don't like something then change it. Until pissing and moaning becomes a new way of voting, the it isn't doing anything productive. And finally, alongside my notion of compulsory voting, a vote of no confidence is acceptable. With that said I would prefer a humorous write-in that accomplishes the same thing.
Using the examples I mentioned earlier: jury duty and Selective Service, why do you believe that an amendment that compels you to vote would still be unconstitutional?
Christian Evans
It’s a cool device and iOS is great. That said I would’ve gotten a Pixel 2 instead if it was sold in my country but it isn’t Because Google is retarded.

, I hope more technical people go into politics. As it stands, DC is full of nontechnical dipshits who don't know heads or tails about laws they're enacting. As a young person (27) myself who hopes to go into local government I hope to be able to help in this way as well.
How is my argument a strawman? I'm using valid analogue. As a male citizen I am required by law to sign up for Selective Service if there were to ever be a draft. How is that not unconstitutional for a country that operates an all-volunteer standing military?
Gavin Thompson
But user, its the Greatest Phone Ever Made®
Benjamin Stewart
I genuinely don't understand paying more than $100 for a phone.
Austin Brooks
>what is the appeal in having a phone that costs $1,000 which will be replaced within 1~2 years? You do know that you can keep an iPhone longer than that, right? Spend $1,000 on the phone, keep it for 4 years, then buy another one later on. Or replace the battery and keep it even longer.
Charles Carter
Quantity > quality.
Jordan Watson
$100 is pretty low desu. That's what you spend if you want to buy another phone in 6 months. $250 is more reasonable to get something good that will last.
Jeremiah Foster
Because I'm tired of laggy anrdoid phones that go to shit after one year of use.
Carter Diaz
$1k isn't that much. My sister makes that over a couple weekends with her part time job The real question is why do YOU care so much how people spend their money?
Camden Rogers
Brown faggot detected
Cameron Murphy
In some countries it's a status symbol. Every rich fuck there bought one because they can.
Christian Wood
why not it's like a few days workin anyway

It's like that with most phones when they come out, the main differnece is how fast Android phones lose their worth compared to iPhones.
Jaxson Diaz
What type of faggot are you? Go out and vote, you can literally vote for anyone you lazy fuck. If you aren't going to take arms and defend this country, at least go out and pen in your favorite gay porno star(s). Fucking soyboys.
Robert Wood
There is never a candidate you can fully endorse in a democracy, not participating in it though is the root definiton of 'idiocy'.
Jose Howard
>while Samsung barely manages around 20%
Oh cmon don't act like samshit is something different, they galaxy and note phones cost around $ 1k too, and the new generation will cost even more.
Zachary Flores
Thanks for derailing the thread you colossal retard. I think that might be better suited for you
Josiah Hall
My phone cost £120 and is approaching 3 years old. Still good.
Josiah Rogers
>ind of "status symbol" ($1000 is nothing compared to a nice car or a house or just a fine apartment): To me it's just proof that someone is stupid enough to pay $700 extra
He is correct though.
A Note 8 costs a lot more to make than an iPhone X.
Nathan Sanchez
People spend a stupid amount of time on their phone so why not?
Mason Ross
I dont need one, but i dont want to be mistaken for a poor person
Jordan Jackson
My phone costed me 30$, and still is going strong, with original battery. For 6 years.
Colton White
Theres a couple of reasons, I dont fully understand any of them but people want different things in a phone I guess 1. The OS (dont see how its that much different from android myself) 2. Tighter integration with other apple products, but this is kind of a self fulfilling prophecy. My dad brought an iphone so he could use it with a mac, and brought a mac so he couldnt use it with his iphone. The again he buys all his music on itunes for whatever reason Other than that I guess it is just more of a fashionable thing than androids
I havent seen that for years. Pre iphone 4 that was certainly a thing, now its quite usual to have an iphone
Ryan James

You can get a decent iphone 6 or even a lower end 7 for 400 nowadays. The note 5 is also priced around 4-500 now. His price isn't all that unreasonable if you're willing to buy pre owned.
Nathaniel Sanders
Apple repair tech here. I want to clear this up and put in my two cents. I hate Apple as a company. And I can confirm that the iPhones are cheaply made, especially in recent years. (see "bendgate"). However, iphones are one of the easiest phones I've ever had to fix. They are so easy to keep going its laughable. So, in short, yes iphones are cheap things that break easily, but are easily repaired.
Jason Collins
my moto Z play I bought for 250$ is still as good as the first day I got it. I think I will be keeping it for another 1-2 years at least. There is just no upside to anything else for me.
Levi Long
Phones now are leased so you never end up paying the whole $1000 for the phone itself. It's more like $30+ a month.
Jack Price
People buy Iphones to demonstrate that they have money to burn. This gets them sex. When girls see our androids they think "cheap loser" and remove points from whatever fucking retarded score moronic women keep.
Ethan Collins
I can afford the best
Alexander Myers
bro, I have a Samsung T401G slider that I got back in 2013 that's still running just fine. Paid all of $9 for it refurbished from Net10 wireless. If we hadn't gone back to Sprint in 2016 I'd still be using it.
Austin Howard
Just remembered, at the end of 2014 we "upgraded" to LG L45C "Optimus Net" phones for a whopping $29 each, still on Net10. All three of those phones are still working fine. My youngest daughter just uses my wife's old L45c to watch youtube videos and listen to music and my son uses my old one to take pictures and video wherever we go. I could take them both back and get service on them again and they'll work just fine.
Isaiah Nelson
people buy iphones because they're fuckin idiots.
A phone isn't a status symbol 'cause if that's the case, we'd all be using flip phones like billionaires Warren Buffett and Jerry Jones.
