I just don't understand why someone would even pay more than $400 for a phone. Is there ANY other type of technology that costs this much which gets replaced so frequently?

Apple has a profit margin that's unheard of thanks to their marketing, it's around 70% while Samsung barely manages around 20%. A $1000 Apple phone is actually a $300 phone so I guess that's $100 less than you think a phone should be worth. This is why iPhones are so crappy compared to similarly priced Android flagships. I find it quite funny that some regard an iPhone as some kind of "status symbol" ($1000 is nothing compared to a nice car or a house or just a fine apartment): To me it's just proof that someone is stupid enough to pay $700 extra for a $300 phone with some logo on it.
As for flagships in general: I've never bought one and found the idea of doing so beyond ridiculous because of the rapid rate phones have been improving. But this is changing, it seems to have stalled out. We're nearing a point where the new flagship 2 years from now will be just about the same as the ones released today.

What I'm referring to isn't specifically the presidental election. I'm talking about everything, being involved in local and state politics. Washington DC is a bottom-up game that starts at the state level, so in order to get a presidential candidate you like, you have to support your local and state representatives. Presidential candidates don't just come from nowhere (except the retard in office right now).

My S7 which is just about to turn 2 years old in a few weeks hasnt been updated from Samsung since October. I could flash a newer update which other regions have got but I lose a few features like VoLTE (I actually have to use my phone as a phone)

Trump didn't win the popular vote. He won the way the US system has always worked -- by winning enough electoral votes across the 50 states, and these votes come from the majority of people voting for him in that state.

The Electoral College is flawed. However I feel that States should have more autonomy over their own laws. In this way, the Electoral College's benefit of better representing rural voters would be negated on a State level.

The Bill of Rights is pretty clear that voting is not a prerequisite for the First Amendment. They actually do, expressly, have the right to complain regardless of whether they voted or not. Furthermore, abstention IS a valid vote in every system of parliamentary procedure that I've ever read.

Theres a couple of reasons, I dont fully understand any of them but people want different things in a phone I guess
1. The OS (dont see how its that much different from android myself)

Apple repair tech here. I want to clear this up and put in my two cents. I hate Apple as a company. And I can confirm that the iPhones are cheaply made, especially in recent years. (see "bendgate"). However, iphones are one of the easiest phones I've ever had to fix. They are so easy to keep going its laughable. So, in short, yes iphones are cheap things that break easily, but are easily repaired.
my moto Z play I bought for 250$ is still as good as the first day I got it. I think I will be keeping it for another 1-2 years at least. There is just no upside to anything else for me.
Phones now are leased so you never end up paying the whole $1000 for the phone itself. It's more like $30+ a month.

bro, I have a Samsung T401G slider that I got back in 2013 that's still running just fine. Paid all of $9 for it refurbished from Net10 wireless. If we hadn't gone back to Sprint in 2016 I'd still be using it.
Just remembered, at the end of 2014 we "upgraded" to LG L45C "Optimus Net" phones for a whopping $29 each, still on Net10. All three of those phones are still working fine. My youngest daughter just uses my wife's old L45c to watch youtube videos and listen to music and my son uses my old one to take pictures and video wherever we go. I could take them both back and get service on them again and they'll work just fine.
