Admit it

the only reason you didn't like this idea is because you felt like you were getting ripped off

We don't like the idea of data being handled differently and having to pay so it gets treated the same.

No, I don't like it because it's a stupid idea invented by corporations to squeeze every last penny out of you even more so than they currently do. Why change something that isn't broken?

> This is what Pai bootlickers actually believe healthy competition looks like
No. The reason I don't like this fucking idea is doing my job depends on being able to access SO/small academic websites and not just Facebook and Wikipedia.

If you could have high speed internet with every package for less than $20 a month, you would still object to using it?

Why would this happen? Why would an ISP charge less than they could? They are businesses and will charge as much as the market allows. Many places only have 1 to 3, maybe 4 ISPs. What makes you think they will willingly choose to lower their profits?

humor me and think hypothetically.
If you could get the same service you get now for a fraction of the cost, would you still be morally opposed to the "channel package" model in my picture?

It isn't about morality. It's about politics.

Of course I'd choose to pay less. But you can't delude yourself into thinking that is a possible reality.

Stupid amerifats. I use unlimited internet for 9€ a month and i have 200 mb/s upload speed and 200mb/s download speed.

No need. ISPs fucking over customers isn't a hypothetical issue because there are already FCC cases where companies tried to do exactly this. Might as well humour you to a hypothetical America where democrats are rational and republicans have the people's best interests in mind.

what I delude myself into is none of your business

Get raped and kill yourself, you retarded fucking faggot sack of nigger shit with down syndrome.

Are you actually taking comments on Sup Forums personally? Curb yourself from the gene pool so the next generation doesn't suffer from your fucktardation.

not him, but fuck the fuck off, ratterd

It's the very definition of nickel and diming shit.
When I go to the library I don't have to pay more to get access to certain sections, the internet should be the same.

Tell me pal
Would you live in a comfy spacious prison cell if it meant the rent, food, and internet were free and you could go outside into the yard anytime you wanted to?

You should keep in mind that many users of this site already doing just that

the reason i like this idea is i'm sick of paying premiums for manchildren watching twitch or netflix, i'm sick of my area only having 2 shitty ISPs due to insane startup costs

I guess it is Australia o'clock.

sure
would you, though?

Is not allowing companies to rip you off supposed to be a bad motivation?

And there will still only be 2 ISPs in your area because ISP startup costs are going to mostly be physical: it costs a shit ton of money to lay cable everywhere.

Yes. For multiple reasons.
1. There are websites I visit regularly which aren't included in those packages. They get fucked over. They get less traffic, and it's much slower for me con
2. Websites that depend on the internet for commerce get less traffic now. They have to raise their prices to compensate. Well, they probably don't have to, but they will.
3. Updates, Windows or otherwise, will eat multiple entire gigabytes.

The whole net neutrality thing is bull shit and shouldn't be an issue at all. And did you see your picture? 256 kbps? Try to browse Amazon all by itself with that speed. Now try to browse Amazon while someone else, on your same network, is watching Youtube.
Hypothetically, if I could get an EXACT IDENTICAL DUPLICATE of my internet service for a much lower price, I would get that service and I wouldn't care about the "channel package" bullshit. But we don't live in a world with rational consumers. NN only works the way proponents spout about it in a perfect economical world, which we don't live in. If consumers were smart, Microsoft and Apple would have gone out of business years ago.

Your question is loaded and everyone reading it knows that.

If I were poor and the comfy prison cell were nicer than my living situation, maybe

This user speaks the truth.

>If consumers were smart, Microsoft and Apple would have gone out of business years ago.
Ain't that the goddamn truth.

But ISPs will have a bigger revenue source now that they can charge said manchildren a hefty premium for Netflix and Twitch. business will become more lucrative for them, i'll get cheaper and better internet, win win situation to me

the reason the internet today is so bloated with botnets is that webdevs don't have to give a flying fuck about traffic - ISP picks up the tab anyway right? So they bloat the fuck out of their websites with millions of scripts bots and other needless shit

Very anticompetitive

So passing these extra costs onto the consumer is a good idea how?

>Microsoft and Apple would have gone out of business years ago
You lost me at this statement. People buy Microsoft stuff for rational reasons: it's standard, it will be compatible with everything in the store, it's reasonably easy to use for non-technical people, and using anything else means either paying way more for a Mac or going way out of their way to install Linux. People buy Apple for rational reasons too: usually either compatibility with certain software they need, or more often because they value the appearance and fashion statement (which is a valid reason even if not a technical one).

What tab do ISPs pick up? When I view a bloated website at 80 mbps, I'm using the 80 mbps service I pay for every month. The ISP is being compensated for the service I use by going to certain sites, by me.

> you felt like you were getting ripped off
you are though

Because the consumer who consumes the bandwidth has to pay for it? Why should I pay for something i don't use?
either the ISP is getting fucked by high traffic usage services and then has to distribute that cost over his entire clientbase, or you get fucked by having to buy an expensive internet package which you don't necessarily need. you're forced to buy 80mbps to use the internet today, anything lower is unworkable. why? because efficiency isn't a concern.

I'm not being forced to buy 80 mbps. I could buy 30 or 15 mbps if I didn't need as much. If I buy 80 and don't use it much, I've made a dumb decision and am paying too much.

The reason I don't like this idea is it was invented by some redditor a few years ago and has nothing to do with NN

>Why should I pay for something i don't use?
Yeah why do I have to pay for roads, bridges, and other services across the state. I don't use them! Why should I pay for school levies, I don't have any kids! Why should I have to pay any taxes at all, taxation is theft amirite?

Literally who besides ISPs benefit from getting rid of NN?

...

Where's the pack with e621 and rule34?

>Downloading terrabytes in a month, .10$ per 2GB
>Not getting ripped off

consumers who don't want to pay premium for internet they don't use? why are you comparing roads and schools to netflix and twitch? stop strawmanning, nobody will die for having to pay a few extra dollars to watch their kids shows and other people playing video games

No one NEEDS those sites, user

The image is fake, stop being retarded

Are you on drugs? I was referring to his hypothetical scenario.

That's not how the internet works, it is a utility like water or power. Using that parallel, the water company charge me more because I use more water on specific tasks? No, they charge based on flat usage regardless of what it was for. Same with electricity, pay for what you use not how its used. Why should the internet be treated differently? If you want to pay less for internet then choose a slower internet plan.

I am, I regret nothing

Everyone needs those sites.

>implying ISPs will bother offering a $2/mo plan for muh Sup Forums ascetic no-media internet user

>another triggered americunt
nice

>dodges the question
Fuckboy.

are you retarded? utility bills you on a per usage basis, just like i'm suggesting the internet should. would you be okay paying a flat rate on your electricity bill just because your neighbor next door has 200 GPUs mining ethereum?

This is one of two ISPs in my rural small town, if we had more providers or lived closer to a metro area then this price would be even lower. Are you implying that this is too much, especially when federal financial assistance exists for low income households?

How it exists right now is fine. You have speed and data cap tiers that exist for this exact purpose. If my neighbor wants to mine buttcoins and pay out the nose in power and the required bandwidth, then go for it. I pay for the tier of internet that I feel is necessary.

If you didn't have so many niggers, spics and mutts you could have good things as well.

Is the technology equivalent of /o/'s "I need muh 8 liter v8 and full quad-cabin bigub-trugg in order to do groceries ones a week"?
I've used 7 mbps for like a decade and only now I've passed to 20 mbps: up to a certain speed it doesn't make a fucking difference anymore.

Maybe you should stop and think for a moment if you actually need to download all that 2D porn and just hypothetically think of move out your mother's basement and find an actual job.

>Implying I was solely referring to my home connection

g doesn't care about freedom it we only care about EROTIC GAMES

el goblino..

I got a Vodafone VideoPass. The way it works is: You can go to any website EVER, but if you go to YouTube, we turn the meter off.

You can watch and download literally dozens of GB at 4G speeds for a flat rate.

This, and it's why repealing NN is bad even for europe.

ITT:
People who don't understand the free market.

Ask yourself why a Banana at the store on the next corner doesn't cost 10 Billion dollars although they could price it like that...

cable companies can package tv stations because they strike deals with all channels they provide: nbc, warner, viacom, even the small channels

ISPs can do this with sites such as google, netflix, and social media but the smaller sites have no say in this

the two business models are not analogous and one doesn't make sense for the other

so you say there are no rate packages but there's still a fast lane for certain sites?

>he says in the "technology" board

>he buys new car
>great battery life and cost half the price of a new fossil fuel car
>all hi-tech with pretty leds everywhere, cuckbook support and soylent dispenser built right into the dashboard.
>as soon as the on-board GPS detects it's leaving the city limits or exiting the highway it charges his credit card $0.99 per mile
>he forgot to buy the "Rural Vistas" package

>it's the 'no regulations will make us benefit from market force' meme
Go buy a train ticket in the UK, you'll love the freedom those rail operators have.
