Tim Hecker was a p4k darling not long ago. He's not obscure or inaccessible.

Neither is none of the posuercore

eh stuff like Julius Eastman and Polly Bradfield is so mediocre that you wouldn't know about it unless you were being an idiotic tryhard

Check out Djanjo Reinhardt, if you're Montie posting user. If you're not, well, check him out anyway.

Explore Coil some more if you haven't.

Check out Judee Sill.

I have 42 total 5 star rated.
Here's some of them.

How do we stop Montie, mu?

encourage avant teen music (most of it outside of memes like Eastman is actually good)

Make Mr. Bungle Sup Forumscore so he's forced to like it.

1/3

Though I liked the album.

>Tama

My black friend

>TMR is poop
Why is it poop?

the reason is that you're a sad sack

nah I'm just joking, listen to mickey newbury and steven r smith

Every Portuguese person I see on RYM has Cantigas do Maio as one of the 5 stars
It's really a fantastic album

I miss him too ;_;
I genuinely love Lulu though I hope you're aware of that

Gurun Gurun - Kon B

Peder - And he just pointed to the sky

Hildur Guðnadóttir - Leyfðu Ljósinu

I'm gonna try to catch Tomokawa live in June or July.

I've listened to most of his albums but missed that one. I'll check it out.

Thanks for the recs, any suggested starting albums for each of them?
Also, you're right that I'm a sad sack, but on a more serious note, the happy moments in each of those are what make them 5s to me.

>I'm gonna try to catch Tomokawa live in June or July.
Thats rad man, I'm super jealous

why does Montie want to be taken seriously and then everytime he's asked to explain his opinions he either

1) runs away
2) goes on about everyone who hates him is "elitist"

tfw nobody wants to talk to me about music

why do people pay attention to montie

hey man what 2016 albums have you heard recently

hey my man

what a music you like

I'm so excited.

One of the reasons I moved to Japan was so I could see him play live, not even kidding.

I shitted on myself ://

deathprod :)

How to get into Tomokawa?

theres more than one """""""""montie"""""""""

what do you do in japan for a living? please don't be an english teacher, that's like the faggiest reason for being in japan

dark ambient a nice

I appreciate your commitment man. Hopefully he doesnt pass before I get a chance to visit.

The two trips I use are on my RYM so I am the real montie.
I can explain. I just come and go out of threads

I respect that. I think Lulu was a failed experiment but I can see why people like it

It's just a Carcaphony of madness designed to poke fun of rock music. It's literally "top 40 is shite and it's 1960s" the album.
I like Safe as Milk tho

>It's just a Carcaphony of madness designed to poke fun of rock music.
Is The Shape of Jazz to Come the same way? No, of course not: you don't develop an avantgarde album under such an immature concept. Beefheart and his band spent time carefully composing and arranging the parts for the album. It's not sloppy by any means.

>poke fun at rock music

w..what? Do you have any idea what you're talking about?

this

what is actually the point of rym, so you can play pitchfork reviewer? open a blog or website my GOD

In addition, Safe as Milk has nothing of high artistic value on it and the people who like it - you and Fantano - are people who don't value music as art.

Oh, I am not disagreeing with the fact that he spent time arranging everything. It still intentionally sounds messy.
I just don't like the message it is trying to put across at all and I think it is a failed experiment.
TMR is a anti-rock album

No. A lot of people use it to write down their thoughts on a album and keep a log.

>I just don't like the message it is trying to put across
That you invented.
>and I think it is a failed experiment.
How?!

>something doesn't make sense to you
>it's not that I don't understand, its just a failed experiment!!

TMR conveys more emotion and beauty than all of your 10/10s combined.

why does montie say "failed experiment" instead of just saying he doesn't like something?

...is it pretentious posing?

see that's the thing, Montie's complaining about pretentious elitists while being a pretentious elitist

it's beautiful.

I'm not a fan of apple pie. I feel like the use of apples with cinnamon in a pie is just a failed experiment

...

Only got Pet Sounds and Spiderland as my 5 star albums

so all of this is because Montie is not good at being elitist, so he lashes out at people that do it better? topwew

Fantano actually put it in the best words, and I fucking hate fantano. It does not sound good to the ears, you have to warm up to it. I understand why people love it and I get what it does. I just don't like the sound it presents and I think it was hardly influential unless we are talking about Avant music.

This is false.

No, I'm hardly an elistist. I don't shove my taste down the mouths of others.

>No, I'm hardly an elistist. I don't shove my taste down the mouths of others.
>"waaaaah poseurcore"

nice

>I don't shove my taste down the mouths of others.

neither do elitists, do you even know what that word means?

>I just don't like the sound it presents
Because you're a pleb that doesn't like or listen to avantgarde music.
>and I think it was hardly influential unless we are talking about Avant music.
"I think it was hardly influential unless we are talking about artistic music that pushes boundaries?"
>No, I'm hardly an elistist. I don't shove my taste down the mouths of others.
No one does this either.

It's because in his high school group of friends, he does have the elite taste. The fact that he listens to Raiohead and Sufjan Stevens blows them away, seeing as they probably listen to radio. So, when he came on here, he thought his taste would live up to expectations. When he got shit on for liking shit music, he couldn't accept the reality that he was really a pleb. So he had a hissy fit.

>It does not sound good to the ears
but that's not the final purpose of music... that's not what the artist wanted
I can't say anything about it being influential or not, but that also wasn't beefheart's intention
dude wasn't trying to prove a point on anything, how can he fail then?

silento almost got a 5

Beefheart's music sounds amazing when you actually have a lexicon for avantgarde music like Ornette Coleman

well that explains everything

if not for Beefheart i probably would never have understood Coleman honestly

You guys think this guy can understand beefheart?

rateyourmusic.com/collection/Montie_Ray/strm_h,ss.rd/jazz

literally the "the list goes on..." meme

fucking christ

if there was ever a jazz Sup Forumscore chart this is what it'd look like

>nothing higher than 4*
>HOT RATS ON PAR WITH LOVE SUPREME
Hot Rats is LITERALLY the most mediocre jazz album I've ever heard.

>flint
mama mia!

so to recap since Montie left the thread

his whole argument for why TMR is poop is

>I don't like how it sounds

and he gets mad at us for making fun of him
