yes Brendan Byrnes is awsome
who the holy fuck?
uh, funky like stinky yuc
that is NOT funky
rhythmically it is. As to pleb ears unable to deal with microtonality... that's a different issue
lol, no its not.
Syzygys was and is hot anyway
lol yes it is. syncopations at a quick tempo are inherently funky.
>balkan dance music is funky
no. sounds like fucking gay klezmer oompa faggotry
I would say so yes.
Funky: having or using a strong dance rhythm, in particular that of funk.
Balkan music is funky as fuck, very fast tempo, lots of syncopations and energy.
fucking cartoon music
microtonal music will never be more than a fetish for weirdo normal people can't appreciate this shit
guy, its not funky.
the dictionary aint gonna make it funky.
stinky?
maybe.
there aint no there there bb
>fetish for weirdo(s)
Thats essentially all the music I like.
Why listen to Britney spears and radiohead when interesting and unusual music exists?
Its funky as fuck. You can't prove me wrong. Because I'm right :)
IT JUST SOUNDS OUT OF TUNE
why do people like this shit??
Microtonal music isn't for everyone user. just go back to your popular music threads and forget it ever happened.
its oompah music with like 1 syncopated note bb.
have fun with your white self
youtube.com
almost tonal though
by that logic you could call heavily distorted classical music "metal" because it's loud and distorted
The traditional guitar tuning is "out of tune" as well you fuckhead, you've just got used to it.
no, its well tempered.
Equal temperament is by definition tuning every single note except for the octaves slightly out of tune.
doesnt apply to me.
i only use D#G#Cd#g#c, BEBEBE, CFCFa#d#
and CGCFGC
plebs
Its not funky as fuck. You can't prove me wrong. Because I'm right :)
Classical music started metal though in 1912 with Stravinsky's Le Sacre.
Metal is just classical with distorted guitars and much much less interesting stuff going on. (and an almost complete lack of dynamics)
It has a more irregular time signature than most actual funk, so essentially Its more funky than funk!
Its still 12TET though. You're not using any microtonal notes.
tune a couple of your strings up 25 cents ("cent" is the fine measurement of pitch in case you didn't know), now you're microtonal. It wont sound good because you dont really know what you're doing with microtonal music, but it will still technically be microtonal.
sounded much better than the first
>It has a more irregular time signature than most actual funk, so essentially Its more funky than funk!
such knowledge
much argument
its fucking 4/4

too deep for us right?
yeah all dem Idian people who enjoy their own folk music are a bunch of weirdos
Okay this is not guitar but plucked string instruments anyway:
Mamoru Fujieda - Patterns of Plants (2011)
>Generating melodic material through the micro-changes of surface-electric potential on leaves, Mamoru Fujieda's second Tzadik release was composed completely based on data taken from plants. Combining alternative tuning systems (just intonation, Pythagorean) with traditional instruments of China and Japan (sho, koto and the ancient 25-stringed zither, the hitsu), Fujieda has again created a world of sound never before imagined possible. Delicate and subtle variations of tone and timbre give a whole new life to classical musical forms such as the passacagalia and strophic variations in this bizarre and fascinating mixture of European Medieval music, the traditions of Asia and modern science.

but they didn't really develop the systems or microtonal harmony. Modern Microtonalism a bit different
Yeah they did lmao. I learned about all this nonsense in wasted time in music theory and history. They have microtonal scales, patterns, melodies, etc. just like we have with 12-tonal music. Very much developed.
Of course it does if you've barely ever listened to anything outside of western 12 note diatonic music (though if you pay attention to blues guitar they do tend to bend to neutral thirds and sevenths, probably without realising that's what they're doing). It takes a while for you to get your head round all the intervals and stop it sounding like an 'out of tune' diatonic scale.
This is some Steam Powered Giraffe type shit
>ju
where can you find non-western microtonal harmony theory? it's almost about scales, maqams and accidental harmony but not like functional harmony in western music. what I mean is microtonalsim can go more into intervals and harmonies
>too deep for us right?
pretty much. If you dont appreciate microtonal music in its various settings, its literally to deep for you. Surprising considering its not very deep at all. Just different tuninigs.
Music should be natural. Why should it stick to a set of 12 pitches? 12TET music uses the pitches in between for things like bends and vibrato, why not for notes themselves?
The only ones cringing are people who appreciate microtonal music, whenever you post.
OP, I'd say try looking into more traditional eastern music.
Oh, I had forgotten this artist's name, thanks user.
Just listened to this a couple nights ago and thought it was fantastic, it's a mesmerizing release.
if you don't understand microtonal music check this good lecture on microtonality

Any man who enjoys Beauty in the Beast is worth taking recommendations from.
dope good man
future music, future keyboard will be like this
microtonal music is not only for weirdos anymore
youtube.com
>midi controller
>... yea of course it's a new instrument!
Thanks for all the links my friends. Will listen to all of them.
I've tried one, it's really awkward to play, I don't think it's "the future of keyboards", but it's a really interesting take on the keyboard, it's like the fretless counterpart to a fretted instrument.
I think it's the only keyboard with pitch modulation for each key on it, so yes, it is a new instrument.
i can bet you its not the only keyboard that does that. haken continuum is one example from the top of my head. but im sure there are more. there are lots of custom made midi controllers out there
neither of them are midi though
are you serious though?
maybe the seaboard is, not looked at it
but it prob uses software to convert to midi
the haken def isn't though, wasn;t that thing made to control kyma? midi wouldn't offer nearly enough resolution
I dig it, there's almost a delta blues vibe going on here.
i have no idea what you're saying, but i;ve only seen it used as a midi controller
it may have a (limited) midi mode
but i think the point the guy you were replying to was about its other functions, as a multidimensional input device (which would require either firewire in the case of the haken, or OSC (i assume) on the seaboard)
i know you're not wanting to get bogged down in the details, but the details are important
Sounds interesting. I know nothing music theory, but i hear elements of American blues with eastern scales mixed in. Pretty cool. But as for a first time listener, guitar may not be the best introduction since the notes aren't all totally pure.
Its like eating sweeys my whole life then finally discovering savory foods.
Delta Indian blues lol
microtonal is even at TED now. actually spreading like never before
