How do new **70 and **80 series thinkpads compare in durability and build quality to **20 series and older? I had a T460 that had the hinges break after a drop on ceramic tile and wondering if the newer thinkpads are better since the T and X series had a case redesign. Does anyone have a video of someone dropping their T470 or T480 on its corner on a hard surface like brick/concrete/ceramic tile from shoulder height? If not, could an user here please make such a video?

Where to fucking buy X210, dream laptop right there. Does it have thunderbolt?
Ethan Gutierrez
X270 or T470 /tpg/, I'm in the market for a new laptop. I'm a previous t420 user, and I like my next laptop to be a bit smaller than my current laptop, but not have to fully compromise for screen space. My only complaint with the T420 has been how bulky it is.
William Ramirez
What screen should I get for my T400?
Nathan Reed
I bought the T470 2 months ago AMA
Brayden Wood
Compared to older thinkpad how much thinner is it? Do you run Linux on? If so how is the support for your WiFi card out of the box?
Colton Gray
Do you regret no waiting for T480?
Zachary Davis
Windows for school, but I plan on switching to Linux soon.
It's my first Thinkpad, but I have the 14'' and it's pretty small. Not sure about wifi support.
Brandon Hughes
Had no idea it was coming. I needed a good laptop for this really difficult semester.
Noah Campbell
I'm a CS major and I use Linux for all my school stuff, the transition is lot smoother than you'd expect. I'll probably go with the T series because I've used them before and then are great. Thanks for replying to me though!
Brandon Ortiz
Oh yeah? I was just thinking about Visual Studio and how I'd rather not try to switch over while I have labs and assignments due aha.
Yeah I'm fan of the T-series now for sure. Exactly what I want in a laptop.
Isaac Adams
Is it possible to get a good thinkpad under 150 that isnt for parts? I just need something that runs modern for a portable art setup

>snowpad.jpg >risk fucking up that custom mainboard for a stupid picture wew lad

Beat up t420
Levi Ramirez
I'd wait till your spring break. Visual Studio, SQL Developer, sqlite, CLion, IntelliJ, and every relevant text editor besides notepad ++ all have native Linux versions.
Colton Smith
how to set a critical battery threshold to like 50% using xfce-power-manager? i'm using a T60 with a shit battery, but the xfce-power-manager will only let me set the critical threshold to a maximum of 20%. it's annoying when the battery just gives up without warning...
Nathan Hernandez
Stop dropping your laptop you clumsy fucker. You ruined it with your seed anyways, and you'llnever be able to sell it.
Ayden Harris
i just upgraded my 2.5 hdd to sdd what should i do with 16gb msata
Caleb Perry
I'm so deep into the meme now boys.
Bought an X201 three years ago. Worked great but recently broke the display and display cable. Bought a Dell E6430, disappointed with build quality and options to replace the shit battery. Bought an X220T, possibly my favorite computer, use it for uni notes. Just got an X61T, digitizer is more accurate than X220T and has a higher res display. Slow as shit on HDD and only 2GB RAM atm. Arriving soon is a T61 and an X201 for parts.
Adam Cruz
how can you live without a numpad?!
Jack Morales
Is it possible to undervolt a cpu in a thinkpad on linux ?
Isaac Cruz
Recovery partition? Otherwise if it's faster than your main SSD you could use it as file system cache but that might wear it out easily
Connor Gonzalez
Not an accountant Plus usb exists
Sebastian Ramirez
Hi,
looking to maintain/upgrade my X200, I found (from the list of FRUs) two different fan assemblies for the X200. One is 25W, one is 35W, is there any build difference? Can I just buy the 35W one and pop it in? Is there a power consumption difference?
Not him, but I also bought a T420 3 months ago, and I while it worked flawlessly on all the major distros I tried(Mint, Fedora, *buntu...), on Windows I had problems with setting up the ethernet, let alone the wifi. Maybe that's just me.

What does /tpg/ think of the upcoming ThinkPads that will include Ryzen Mobile APU's?

x220 arriving tomorrow, traded my t420 for it!! this is the singularity according to the thinkjerk, i'm ready to be superior!!!!!
Brayden Perry
Used x220 for almost 3 years and it was great, the only downsides to that laptop are hot cpu and shit resolution screen without the gimmicky mods.
Brandon Powell
so if i, perhaps, traded for the i7 model, would it run hotter b/c stronger CPU or cooler because the CPU has to do less? would (careful) thermal paste replacement be a good idea?
Henry White
Any way to hide the look of this broken piece better? I was trying to get the sticker off the TouchPad but apparently there wasn't one, and I broke the plastic around it and put carbon fiber on it instead. I put some jb weld on it and sharpied it a little to hide it somewhat. I have enough autism to want to replace it but that's kinda a waste.
Anthony Peterson
> Compared to older thinkpad how much thinner is it? Do you run Linux on? If so how is the support for your WiFi card out of the box? 1.5 times thinner. Running Linux on it, no wifi issues.
Cameron Martinez
Yes.
William Fisher
>get dell e6440 in mail >It's basically mint condition >battery is at 87% health >Light as fuck >rubber surface feels super nice >backlit keyboard that still has the classic, non chicklet keys >fan is off most of the time All for 220 Did I hit a jackpot or what?
Brandon Rodriguez
Is it possible for an x230 to have an ips multitouch screen?

Let's say I amassed a fortune of 8 business laptops. Let's also say I want to move abroad to escape being a wage cuck. What's the most efficient way money wise of bring my laptops with me? I can't abandon a single one, even my cute little T60 with only a gig of ram.
Jeremiah Baker
x230 i5-3320m 8gb DDR3 500gb SATA HDD with a FHD mod for $350
I've got a T420 that I was solely using for flight sim x and it really adds to the immersion because it sounds like a fucking airplane taking off. Now I want to install gentoo on it, but I won't until I can figure out how to fix the coil whine. Anyone else experience coil whine?
Nathan Gutierrez
Do you have an egpu setup? Post egpu setups
Adrian Adams
Depends on your country. In my shithole $300 gets you vanilla x230 with shit display, 4gb ram and 320-500gb hdd.
Nathaniel Jenkins
X220-i5 2nd gen for 185 bucks, it has 4gb and 320gb HDD Is it a good deal?
Grayson Bailey

There's an auction for an X60t at €25 right now, should I pull the trigger? Specs are not specified.
Ryan Mitchell
I'm going to go with no, there is no difference, it's just for the higher power c2d. there are no differences in the cases that I'm aware of

The A485 and A285 should be coming out Q3 or 4 this year.

Yesterday my x230 fell off the bed. Not a single bit of cosmetic damage. Harddrive is absolutely fucked. Ordered a 250GB Ssd today.
Michael Cook
I bought this exact setup for 220 USD
John White
What are the pros and cons between t420 and x230, other than screen size?
Luke King
The T420 still has the 7-row keyboard.
Jayden Cook
Why'd you absolutely need it, no lab machines?
Brayden Scott
Oh shit boys found me a x220 at 160€ with a 9cell, shit's tight compared to the prices I find here. Hopefully the dude can wait a bit, poor as shit rn but getting my paycheck in on friday
Jason Ortiz
T420 pros: >meme value (the dankpad) >classic keyboard >potential for higher res screen without mods (900p vs 768p) >socketed CPU with upgrade to quad core possible >more ports >cd/dvd drive can be replaced with a storage drive in a caddy >the 1080p mod that exists is easier to install than on the X230
X230 pros: >very small and portable >very good battery life >the 768p IPS screen is actually quite good (brightness, contrast, colors)
X230 cons: >7 row keyboard requires modding (pretty easy but it's some work) >768p TN screen is terrible >soldered CPU >only space for 2 mass storage drives (SATA + mSata) >1080p mod requires soldering and much more work in general
Andrew Johnson
comfy
Gavin Thompson

Hi Sup Forums I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 running Debian since 2009. It has served me well so far with only a HDD failure + battery change but today I find it very slow. The 3,9GiB RAM is constantly over 90% usage when web browsing, barely under 75% when idle on the desktop. Time has come to let it retire peacefully.
Could you suggest me a Thinkpad please?
current use: >55% shitposting >20% HD trap porn webms 1080p 60fps >10% GIMP >15% Eve Online
My budget is 800€ max
Colton Gutierrez
Also, adding to this, how good/bad is the Intel HD 3000 1.5 gb, it's what comes with the x220

The 35W should run marginally cooler.

I'm thinking about shelling out for a T470s, gonna primarily use linux. Am I overdoing it for something that will primarily be for media and programming? I want to leave windows on there to run a game on the odd occasion but I never play anything that intensive.
Wyatt Wright
How hard and expensive is it to put a better screen on a T430? I don't think the stock display is as bad as people say but I wouldn't mind watching my mongolian cartoons in higher quality.
