Maemo was the Nokia N900/N9 operating system. The N900 ran Fremantle and the N9 ran Harmattan.

I bought an Xperia X to install Sailfish on it. It's been pretty good and I'm excited for Sailfish 3. Now if only there was a phone with Nokia N950 form factor and modern hardware I could run it on.
PureOS sounds good as well if they ever get the Librem 5 out.

Sailfish is the closest thing to Maemo. It's made by the original Nokia Maemo team. But they're rpm-based now, not apt-based.
Just a shame they couldn't keep the N9/N950's UI. Sailfish's a dim replacement for genius.
