Use the KYS script

by reverse engineering windows 10 explorer api calls and patch it into 98

Look up classic shell.

isn't that just the start menu?

I want Windows XP explorer on Windows 10 core, or on WINE/Linux.
I've tried copying everything - but no, it didn't worked.
Maybe with 9x it would be simpler.

Instructions are unclear, my dick stuck in knot.

Okay, I want this too...

You'd have to use something NT based like NT4, not DOS based like win95/98

Interesting concept, technically yes, you can use reactOS explorer, which is a rewrite of Windows 2000 explorer, because 98 explorer is a fullscreen DOS application it's impossible in modern windows, based on NT.

>you can use reactOS explorer
It is unstable on Windows NT

and Microsoft Windows Explorer is suddenly stable, and never crashes?

how bout some nice linux theme?

put it in rice

muh dick

>because 98 explorer is a fullscreen DOS application
What the fuck are you talking about, you seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of 9x's relationship with DOS

Looks pretty legit, but still not quite Win2K.
Nice font by the way.
Not as often.

May be.

No you cant its Dos based. Even the windows compatibility mode will fuck it up. That and its a fucking retarded idea just use a vm faggot.

What all are you using to achieve such classicness?

Q4OS as the operating system (debian + kde3.5 fork)
XPQ4 as theme that has a very good XP and Win2000 theme + some tweaking on my side

Win 98 VM?

nice

like what you see?

Thank you user. I will attempt this on some of my older laptops.

Code Windows 10 in a way it thinks it's called Windows 9.
The system will get confused because there were a Windows 9x family and will go back 20 years into the past.

XPQ4 site is currently down
if you want to download the theme then here, save this link for later if the site will be still down
sourceforge.net/projects/xpq4/files/archive/setup_xpq4_1.11-a1_all.esh/download

SeaMonkey may be of interest to you with that aesthetic.

I'd like that without Q4OS. On Debian or something. Too bad trinity DE is unmaintained as shit and distro support sucks.

Thanks man.
But this is slighly high on memory 385 MiB is too much for (1280x768) I think.

Thanks again, fukkin saved.

>GTK3
you wot m8

It seems fucky, but I still recommend you give it a shot with a classic Netscape theme. It is the direct surviving descendant, after all.

This is a quite good 90-20's flashback thing.
Is Konqueror maintained?

>Is Konqueror maintained?
I don't think so
I can't even reply from Konqueror on Sup Forums
not recommended
latest firefox and chrome is available though

>I can't even reply from Konqueror on Sup Forums
Like on ie5...

>windows 8.1 don't have the classic theme
This kills the man

truly an authentic experience then

No but you can install Windows theme on Linux.

how the fuck do run this?

That looks like knock-off iPhone, not cool.
- this looks quite authentic.

chmod +x seamonkey-bin
./seamonkey

Doing Gods Work user

Change terminal font to non-AA one, and it would be 2000/10

>am_i_retarded.jpg

try sh seamonkey, dunno.

Try taking read write ownership of the entire directory for good measure, also, it might be available via your package manager.

I've never seen that happen before, sorry user. It just werked for me on Funtoo and Arch after granting permissions.

it's called bash is garbage and hiding the failure from you.

/lib?(64)/ld-linux-@(x86|x86-64).so.2 ./seamonkey-bin

permissions on 777 on everything and did not work
I googled it and I read that this happens when I try to run 32 bit application in a 64 bit system or vice versa
seamonkey is 64bit right?

./seamonkey-bin: error while loading shared libraries: ./seamonkey-bin: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32

I don't know what this means

get windows 98
(i had to take a screenshot and send it to my newer computer cause posting on Sup Forums requires java)

Did you install all the dependencies?

posting on Sup Forums requires java

rip. it means you don't have the x86 linker and corresponding x86 libs for your x86 ELF.

you can doubly check with `file` to see what linker it expects, what type of elf it is, etc. you probably need multilib.

it was because the main download is for some fucking reason 32bit
and of course the 64bit is hidden on the bottom of the page

This is the first one I've seen that looks anything like Windows. Not perfect, but pretty close.

Damn, sorry I didn't warn you, I'm lucky enough to have it in the repos for everything I use currently. The main site was not so cryptic when I used it last.

I'm generally against downloading binaries, but if it worked, cool.

just note to run x86 ABI on your loonigs system that you need to look for "enabling multilib" instructions for your distro.

also some random binaries also expect a linker called ld-lsb-*.so which means you need to install an lsb package that your distro likely has.

>posting on Sup Forums requires java
Java and javascript are not the same, illiterate faggot.

fug
all the good looking themes has this

Thanks user!

You can try and override the compatibility checks, sometimes it works out.

why do yu thibk im on windows 98???

no, because windows 95 did not implement NTFS. Windows 95 explorer would not be able to read an NTFS drive

FS reading is a kernel-level stuff. Like in Linux, kernel is responsible for FS support.
Actually, you can make Win95 read NTFS... I thinks so at least.

for anyone wondering what tweaks I set to make it look better here is a small guide

Install Windows 7
Then Install ClassicShell
> Or use an Explorer replacement

Nope. It can tweak Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer

>It can tweak Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer
to look like this?

What DE?

read the thread you dumb tomato

this

Using Kwin? What is this.

>I can't even reply from Konqueror on Sup Forums

Are you using khtml or webkit?

when ive tried to use classicshell it usualy doent work right then fucks up my computer pretty hard

reboot/reinstall, user

i think this was after uninstall..

has it ever been created better, simplier, intuitive and aesthetic GUI than this from Windows 98?

There's kernel extensions for Windows 98 that allow you to install Firefox, assuming your hardware is capable of it.

You are thinking of windows 2k if I am not mistaken.

There's no official port of KernelEx to Win2k so, yes, you are mistaken

Can you link me to the w98 kernel extensions?
There are unofficial extensions to windows 2k to allow it to run windows xp programs including chromium and firefox.

Sourceforge is down, but here's the link: kernelex.sourceforge.net/

>kernelex.sourceforge.net/

That is interesting, I always thought it was for win 2k only. Would be interesting to try to use this to run some modern applications such as Chrome or even Steam.

anything similar to HPunix?
it's better looking than 98 imo
>stolen from some poster here

HP-UX CDE is pretty much the bone stock distribution (except for some extra icons) that you can build on most GNU/Linux, BSD and Illumos systems nowadays from the SourceForge repository.

t: the poster you stole the screenshot from

Turn the shit off, Sup Forums works fine without it, you just can't use the catalog or click on post numbers to automatically quote them.

Either I just go without it and start scrolling from page 10 backwards or use my phone to find threads and then navigate to them from there.

Use 7-zip as your file manager. Is what I do.

its not bad
its not perfect, but it actually looks pretty good like this
its clearly not the original gray box theme but it works pretty well anyway
