It doubles as a physical kill switch / privacy filter.
Great idea if you ask me

I'd pay extra for a smartphone without a front facing camera.

>front facing tier camera quality
>added security
>actually hides if not being used

Why hasn't this existed until now?

Because “””””””They”””””” don’t want that to happen.

Indubitably because of secret orders from secret alphabet agencies.

more moving parts increase costs and decreases reliability

This is not even worth talking about, we're currently in a transitional phase, the future is all sensors under the display so the front is 100% display.

true, but cameras are probably the most vulnerable part of the phone

i think its a great idea
>protects the camera when not in use
>actively blocks it when not in use
i would pay a little extra for this feature
only problem i see is water proofing

You can't put a camera behind a display tho

What's the limitation in your opinion?

Besides the display not being transparent or the size? Nothing.

extremetech.com/mobile/262497-samsung-patent-shows-phone-camera-inside-display

All LCDs are technically translucent, It's how they work.

And even for OLED, translucent versions exist.

>Each one would look like a small gap in the panel

Yeah, but you think you can fit a camera there without having to turn off some pixels and compromising quality?

A small gap that is visible only during usage of the camera because the pixels have to turn off.
This is miles better than having a permanent notch.

Both this and the notch are retarded workarounds to the already obsolete front facing camera implementation, the future is having only one very good camera on the back and a an auxiliary display below it for selfie shots

>mechanical parts
its shit

>not the display

A better way to reduce moving parts + save costs AND have a good quality front facing

you can do creepy shot with that

Just get rid of frontal cameras Jesus christ

What phone is waterproof without this?

The cases of people destroying their phones because they cannot put away the damn things while taking a shit and they falling into the toilet are uncountable...

your microphone can still be activated silently at any time through the baseband

Maybe, but It's not nearly as invasive.
My only concern is that it becomes super fragile

no
there's a reason phones ten to use as few mechanical parts as possible

>camera automatically pops out when the camera app is on
>goes back down automatically when the app is closed
This would prevent normies leaving it up and breaking it.

mfw used to have this, comfy as fuck.

i'm so glad this is becoming a trend
no more fat ugly bevels and added privacy

dis

Until you drop it and the fragile plastic hinge its mounted on snaps and renders the whole phone worthless.

So it's mechanical? Drop phone and the camera breaks off, drop phone and mechanism pushing the camera up stops working. The less moving parts inside a phone the better.

>nokia_n800.jpg

put it in that fuck huge bezel like a normal phone

Every decent camera has mechanical parts.

This

This

This

which is why modern day phones are so durable, right

no, they really aren't. they break quite easily in nasty drops.
a little hinge like that probably wouldn't change much as long as it really is done well.
the more realistic problem would be it becoming iffy or loose in long term use

this

>motor takes up way more space than necessary
>more moving parts = more shit to break
>*case quite literally blocks its path*
terrible idea. just put some bezels on, bezels dindu nuffin to you

anything with moving parts is just an added point of failure

A motorized version is unnecessary but a more simple popup mechanic similar to many old camera flashes would work easily without much added complexity or wasted internal space (aside from room to house the camera when hidden)

It's still more shit to break but it's not fragile enough to matter considering maybe 99% of users would not use it long enough.

C-c-c-c-combo breaker
>don't downvote me pls

wow this is really neat

I like the idea, but that implementation is awful. The angle of the picture would be very shitty.

That's actually pretty neat.

Take your gild instead :D

quoted the wrong post, fucktard, kys

>le reddit army is here guise
fuck off

Nostrilcam.

In what world is the microphone less invasive than a camera?
Microphone is an actual privacy concern, camera is just a dumb meme that 16 year olds scream out that people might see their junk without them knowing.

I feel like this would just snap off.

I highly doubt that

front facing cameras are for narcissistic tools in general, just do away with the whole thing.

inb4 a software triggers the camera to pop up and you can't push it back

I think its pretty cool, if it was gonna release soon I would probably get it, cause that hidden cam and the under screen fingerprint scanner are great.
But since its not, I'm probably gonna get a Mi Mix 2S.

Gotta replace my 6p, hopefully this leaked image is real.

...

I think it's a good idea, but if you have the camera pop up like that, what's with the big black bezel?

All that being said, I can see that being the next big breakable that all the tards whine about.

> Blow you nose, man.

you must be crazy or stupid to think that a microphone is less invasive than a camera

just tape over the mic and use a bluetooth mic or headphones like daddy snowden recommends

that's the only logical alternative. i wish it was mechanical instead of requiring a motor

this is the next best thing, i guess

So fucking nice and sleek.
Vivo is doing good stuff.

mechanical parts lead to mechanical failure.

Go figure where it gets you.

>nothch
It has a bezel already, just use the fucking bezel

That black bit isn't bezel, its just the camera app.
Its a fullscreen deal see

I don't know why they just ditch the front camera and do what they use to do with putting a mirror on the back.

...

Truly BlueBorne

That bezel is just the screen off. Full res pictures are usually 4:3 so black bars appear on the screen

Not a bad idea, but would like to see the camera angle and how good/bad it is.
