I feel like sometimes when I listen to this song, I hear the lyrics as "since I met you" instead of "since I left you" even though that's the song title. But that can't be right, can it?
In the original sample the singer says "since i met you" but the avalanches shifted it to sound like "since i left you"

The video is about this theme yes. When they find the dance casting, it's actually both of them dying, and while one of them accepts death, i.e. dances with the girls or goes into the light, the other one refuses the temptation to give in and hangs on to life. At the end, the survivor is certain that his old friend is in paradise.
