I have listened to EVERYTHING Jeff Mangum has released thousand of times. I know I seem like just a Sup Forums faggot, but I found Neutral Milk Hotel quite sometime before Sup Forums and have been obsessed FOR YEARS I have been to EVERY SHOW!!! What is ANYTHING that emits the same feeling as Neutral Milk Hotel. Or boasts a similar sound even. I just find that I can't find anything that emits quite the feeling that Neutral Milk Hotel does. I'm not trolling. Please help me.

Also On Avery Island is my favorite album by Neutral Milk Hotel. For some extra discussion.

Minutemen

No other band does what NMH does. The secret is to find another band that does their own thing as well as NMH does theirs.

You're right. 1 other band that I felt this way about was Pixies. That's the only other one that I feel has swept me away in their sound that I felt was special/unique/their own. Do you know anything else that you feel this way about?

check out animal collective's older stuff

I already know it. I guess that is a pretty unique one. I'm looking for something, and not to sound pretentious, but more obscure. I know Sup Forumscore by now and have my opinions about it. I'm looking for something new and captivating, preferably in the same strain of feeling of Jeff Mangum's work, but perhaps I have a unique feeling towards it. I have an extreme attachment. Nevertheless, I'm looking for something powerful, tragic, loveful, doomed, but shimmering with beauty. Anything.

I feel that Neutral Milk Hotel captures all of those fearful feelings you have towards you're future, you're past mistakes, your longing for hope, your love towards what you miss and everything you find beautiful. Good God, it's so bittersweet and rewarding, I love this fucking music.

The Microphones

I know Sup Forumscore my man.

I have heard that NMH earliest works are similar to a lot of other Elephant 6 bands, but I've still never checked them out. I guess now is the time.

Divorce Lawyers I Shaved My Head is the world's greatest Neutral Milk Hotel impression.

Sparklehorse draws me into its decaying-southern-gothic-motorcycle-animal-fantasyland just like NMH does with its psychedelic-freak-out-star-gazing-world

they toured together briefly in the 90s. Lush production and a constant existential terror/acceptance. Start with vivadixie and listen in order

I'm assuming you've heard all the box set material, correct? Hype City Soundtrack and Beauty aren't bad, and there are plenty of great bootleg shows out there too.

Also, be especially sure to check out Olivia Tremor Control and Circulatory System if you haven't already.

Yea, I've heard it all. I fucking love Hype City Soundtrack.
A friend told me about Sparklehorse but never really checked them out. Are they similar to Grandaddy?

Sparklehorse shares similarities with Grandaddy for sure.

try this maybe

Not really. I've never noticed a similarity. On the other hand, GASHCAT is literally NMH 2.0.

I'm the same as you but with godspeed. Probably not as obscure as you're looking for, but I've gotten really into all the band members, side projects, and the whole of the constellation records 'web'

divorce lawyers is the oh comely/three peaches side of NMH; gashcat is the song against sex/holland 1945 side.
