ESG - A South Bronx Story

It's free improvisation with guitar and saxophone. Includes some really good drone parts and some equally nice sprawling/popping parts, where Gustafsson's saxophone style really shine. They contrast each other in a basic but effective way, in that they showcase both styles at the beginning and then start melding them together. Stackenäs' guitar playing is a healthy mix between the two major improv guitar schools; Frith and Bailey. He also manages to create some nice high frequencies in contrast to Gustafsson's baritone saxophone that I think you would appreciate based on Good Morning Good Night. The aforementioned sprawling/popping got a tight quality to them which you seem to like based on the math rock. So I would recommend you to check it out. The album may also serve as a nice gateway drug into free improvisation music in general outside of EAI.

Modest Mouse - Lonesome Crowded West
Daniel Johnston - Hi, How Are You
Kraftwerk - Trans-Europe Express

Cocteau Twins - Heaven Or Las Vegas
Zappa's discography is full of great stuff. If you want something more prog-y check out One Size Fits All, or if you want more experimental Freak Out and We're Only In It For The Money.

Nana Grizol - Love It Love It

The Residents - Duck Stab

+ for nicolas collins
maybe some John Oswald

>whats that album with jupiter on the cover?
Sun Ra – Strange Celestial Road

Great groovy, catchy and somewhat funky vocal experimental big band from the master himself, but done in the 80's. This can easily be heard on the tight production, especially the prominent electric bass.

Thanks a lot for the recommendations.

Did you check out any of my earlier recommendations?

been needing to look into oswald more. good call.

damn, i've been meaning to get into some more sun ra than the few albums i've snagged, d/ling now bro.
anna hogberg is a saxophonist, part of the fire! orchestra so you might dig, very harsh tones, and an all female line-up
i think i might have checked out of the thread before getting those reccs sorry man, any chance you'd remember them?

bumpe

hey how about The Kinks - Village Green Preservation Society and Sonic Youth - Evol

you would really like Ornette's Primetime stuff and maybe Mishio Ogawa - 4 to 3

Deerhoof - Runners Four, Friend Opportunity, Apple O', Milk Man

Arthur Verocai - Self Titled and Gal Costa - Self Titled might be good for your ears

have you checked you Prefuse 73 - Vocal Studies + Uprock Narratives

You might really like Can - Tago Mago and Monster Movie and Future Days

will always recc back if that's what you're feelin much love

You're welcome. His later stuff is underrated I think. Especially Strange Celestial Road.

Oh, damn. That's cool. Fire! is one of my favorite bands, and the albums with the orchestra is very good. It's downloaded. Gonna listen later today. Thanks a lot.

It seems I didn't manage to post them. Oh well, take these:

Keith Jarrett – Changeless
Ahmad Jamal – At The Pershing
The Greg Foat Group – The Dancers At The Edge Of Time
Suggie Otis – Inspiration Information
Jacques Coursil – Black Suite
Bill Callahan – Apocalypse

dope, all d/ling now, thanks bro - already have apocalypse but you've reminded me to work thru the Smog discog I picked up a while back.
desu when I'm lacking a backlog I work thru the solo stuff of members of the Fire! Orchestra, one of the vocalists has a weird cute indie pop type band, would not have put the two together like that.

For some reason I don't have anything to rec to any of you for once, I'll try to make recs for future posters.

bumpe

Only been lurking for a few months, trying to expand my taste and listen to more and more new music. This is what I am as of right now. Can you guys help me? I'm currently going through a mu-essentials chart and crossing things off as I listen, but I'd like other recs.

Don't make fun please

...

desu sometimes i go through threads like these and just listen to someones chart. decent way to expand yer tastes. til then, keep going thru the essentials, if you find something you really like explore that artists discog/search for similar thru the genre. and have fun! music is subjective

I think what I'm going to do this evening is add a collage feature like topsters has where you can specify the columns/rows.

If people want the labels "top 10" and "second-tier classics" etc. I'll do that but I'd rather not just copy their site exactly.

...

I like your taste senpai
