because they think you need it to open .rar files

I always oppress them until they uninstall it and replace it with 7zip. I think I'm doing them a favour!

t. turbonormie

I like the icons. 7zip is ugly

peazip master race reporting in.

t. loserar

If you insist on non-free at least use BandiZip
>better icons than winrar
>better engine than winrar
>better explorer integration than winrar
>image preview including explorer rmb
>smart extract path
>honeyview integration

This but I've switched to 7zip since because it doesn't nag you

It's a tough world

Oh right, BandiZip is free as in no cost, no ads and no nags

Doing gods work.

>people pay winrar,WinZip
>people pirate this

Because it's faster than 7zip in some workloads, dumb frogposter.

Why do they keep using utorrent?
Why do they keep typing "google" in the search bar?

They are fucking normies man.

because it is awesome
now suck my dick

For some reason I can add stuff to .pak files in winrar but not 7zip. No clue what's wrong.

The problem with 7zip is quite simple:

Multipart rar archives are called archive.part1, whereas 7zip multipart archives are called archive.7z.001.

The way 7zip does it is unintuitive and miht even cause problems with other tools that use .001 endings.

Exactly this, except I still defaulted to it because winrar got annoying to me. Though I still kept winrar installed for its right click commands, because I swear 7-zip's wasn't showing up even though I checked the appropriate thing, or something.

If I'm changing 7-zip's icon though I may as well make it something I unironically like, like porn. Though I've just been biting my tongue and dealing with 7-zip's 1998 folder icon program icon...

Normies don't make multi-part archives lol.

All they do is unpack scene rar files and create zip files.

and the scene rar files are multipart, at least when they come from OCHs

Winrar has less syllables and sounds better when said out loud. All the others sound like shit.

BandiZip is kinda sorta related to familiar to normies BandiCam (though the devs split at some point)

>thide muh passwords as bunch of text files in an encrypted 7zip archive in a jpg image on a microsd card filled with all kinds of unassuming shit, in a tiny microsd reader hangin on a keychain
>portable 7zip file manager for winders can automatically update the embed archive after saving text or whatever files within archive without having through trouble of recreating the archive and putting it into a new image
>tfw seems nothing on gaynu/linux can without extracting stuff, removing archive re-embeding a new one manually through command line
>tfw have wine on the same microsd just to reasonably quickly review or update muh passwords

why can't gaynuu/linux into convenient software?

And 7zip can read them just fine.

I agree adding ".001" is retarded but it's only an issue when you CREATE multipart archives\, not when you UNPACK them.

>not using the superior 7z

7zip corrupts your files.

This. I've dealt with a couple of solid 7Z archives which went corrupt and switched back to RAR with RR enabled.

>IzArc masterrace

cos it just werks

Mostly nostalgia.

Because it's winrar.

Winrar is your software sweetheart.
It's a wonderful tiny program that has been around forever and runs a very common, very basic, very useful function.
Literally everyone is familiar with it and everyone uses it.
You would think this beautiful, useful program would be protected, paid, difficult to crack. Instead, it's offline and every time you open it, it talks to you. It politely asks you if you want to pay for it, but it still allows you to use its full functionality if you don't want to pay.

For many, many years winrar has been offering its services without once trying to force you to pay and without falling in the temptation of becoming "free, limited version", without failing to politely ask you if you want to compensate its creators.

Winrar is love, winrar is life.

no shiny alternative.

cause i paid for it

RAR stands for Roshal ARchive.

>why can't gaynuu/linux into convenient software?
Super secret club.
If they make shit just work then normies might use it and god forbid something actually be simple.

This.

How much is a winrar license anyway?

I paid for winrar, and I'm proud of it.

when will normies stop using winblows

This.
The UI in general is atrocious clusterfuck.

I am not a normie and I use winrar
I use it because my penis is so big
it sometimes flops out onto the keyboard and if I turn the keyboard at a 45 degree angle i can type around my shaft

I prefer Winrar. It may not be the fastest or most modern software, but I like it and it does what I need it to do.

Kys brainlets. All of that can be done with a simple command and even through major GUIs. World of computing is doomed to be paywall city because of Sup Forums kiddies like you. Do the world a favor and consider suicide

Ok thann, educated fella. Make the world a prosperous and happy place by pointing out that one simple command, might be useful.

Setup:
AES-256 encrypted 7z archive with hidden file names / contents embedded in whatever JPG image.

wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/Embed_a_zip_file_into_an_image

Contains 1 or more textfiles.

It's always hilarious whenever I see freetards talking about how 7zip would be better just because they just googled "rar vs 7zip compression"

First of all, rar5 compresses just as well as 7zip if not better in some cases. The big difference here is extraction speed though. Rar it way way faster when it comes to extracting archivesy, shit takes ages with 7zip.

What makes rar really superior though is the fact that you can add recovery records to your archives. It's an essential feature for people who actually do backups.

Moral of the story: 7zip is utter shit

That what shell scripts are for.

Nostalgia for what? Extraction failures? Part files being corrupted? Continue Evaluation every time it starts up? That fugly web 1.0 looking installer?

I just use it cause it looks simple and it's free. since I'm not longer lasting it's not like I extract more than a single archive per week. even then it's just some photos or documents

fairly good point.. making a bash script is pretty obvious solution, but so obvious it becomes quite a bit less unassuming when you have an entire shell script and 7z linux binaries put there for doing things on the same ittty bitty card.

at least you can tell your retarded eurocountrye FBI / Homeland Security equivalent / court that you've put wine / playonlinux there for gayman at one point or something

If you put your passwords into a picture you're doing it wrong anyway. But well, if you want, rename the script to thumbs.db or whatever.

UMA DELICIA

>Why don't X stop using stupid Y?
Who cares?

Winrar just works, so has been for like 2 decades now for me
Why would I ever use anything else?

It forces me to use proprietary software to extract the stuff.

> proprietary software
THE EVIL!
Come on, son.
You have to adjust to the world not the world to you.
And if you don't want... well, deal with it.

> TH EVIL!
Yes.

literally no reason to switch from winrar, works everywhere, command line tools are available in loonix, compression is decent enough, has recovery record, has password encryption.

just werks faggot

>I swear 7-zip's wasn't showing up even though I checked the appropriate thing
You need to run 7zip as admin before checking those options.

they don't even know what open source software is

Real men write their own extraction software

I've never used winrar.

Because Recovery Record is very important.

always used it and i don't deal with change very well
