1. 8 GiBs
2. I peak at 5 GiBs.

No regrets, bought the ram a while ago and don't remember it being expensive enough to care. Would not buy with current market prices tho.

virtual machine?

16GB.
Considering that it's Windows 7, which has memory leakage problems, I usually get this amount fully depleted in a couple days, then have to flush the cash or system stutters badly in almost every task. I'm currently preparing to make a new THREADRIPPER+ build in the near future (this autumn, highly likely), there will be at least 64GB (128GB if it supports that) in it this time around.

Unused RAM is wasted RAM. Indexing of programs and commonly used files is good. You can clear/reuse the RAM you need instantly if you need to make space for something new in memory.

brainlets

16gb and the best I went was 8 to be honest. When I tried to reach 350 days of Win10 without restarts (just sleep) I would have nearly 4gb on idle with system started, but there was power cut and it dropped to 1,5gb ;_;

Fuck off. Everyone knows Windows 7 has massive memory leakage problems.

I've used Windows 7 since the month it came out of beta, on dozens of machines, and never experienced OS level memory leaks. Right now this laptop has ~5 days of uptime and is using ~3.5 GB of RAM with a decent number of applications open.

Is this another example of a retarded tech illiterate who thinks "thing go slow" implies a memory leak?

I guess this imbecile is about (((GiB)))

Cold boot, try running KoF XIV, close it after roughly an hour, then several hours later after system idling look at the memory, then go and kys.

it's time for you to leave and/or get an education

I peak at 1,2GB

running on debian + i3 with minimal services running

I use about 575MiB when editing text + shitposting + listening to music + reading a pdf
I have 7756MiB installed
I don't even care about using ram/resources, but I do like having a long battery life.
