So I have a dedicated computer for internet use. 16GiB of RAM. I do some work on it. Literally like ~16 Tabs open. most for work some for background music on auto-play youtube.
Everything is fine. Then I need to do other things.
I disconnect the computer from the internet, because why not? I come back 8h later to finish my work on it.
WTF! Everything lags! Check and see that 16 GiB is used!!!!!!!! And 8GiB of page file!!!!!!!!
WTF! What the literal fuck!
I did use heavy tab browsing in the past however this is beyond any measure! ~16 motherfucking tabs!
The fuck did this bloat! It was even disconnected from the internet!
What do i do Sup Forums ? To what version do I downgrade to improve my web browsing?! Because all these updates do is eat more memory! With ZERO benefits!
I remember the old days when 4GiB manged to let you have 100 of tabs!
Is there any way for my to block how large a browser can get in memory? To what version do I downgrade to not get fucked hard(unsupported "new" media types etc).
What about meltdown and spectre what versions are immune etc?
>I'm mentally retarded and don't like logical text separation despite the fact that it predates reddit the internet and computers. >I will bark at you! >reddit! >reddit! >reddit!
Nice derail can someone talk about the actual subject of the OP?

I don't have this problem. I use all options available in firefox to limit caching and lower the processes. I also block all scripts by default, some of which can rape your resources. I also stream all media with mpv and youtube-dl because its just better in every way and you don't have to allow extra scripts. When you know what you're doing and have everything setup up it's comfy af.
>youtube-dl I used it however not having recommended videos is a problem. >mpv What is this? is this SMplayer?

Is there a way to limit what resources the browser or one tab can get?
Also any idea how my example experience was possible? In like how did 16GiB vanish like this???!!!!

Use an ad-blocker like ublock origin to avoid worthless resource hogging flash and javascript ads. Use a plug-in like umatrix to pick and choose what bits of javascript you allow to run.
Is there a way to make the Desktop browsers work like Android ones? I have Brave on a tablet with 1.5 GB of RAM and I can have 300+ tabs because it only loads the title of the site to list the tabs and once I select one it actually loads the site. It's convinent because I'm not using 99% of the tabs so why should they be loaded anyway, just being there as temporary bookmarks is perfect.

Web browsers in general are absolute cancer these days, as is a lot of other software.
Hunter Reyes
Your web browser is not using 16Gib of RAM.
You are a retard.
Levi Lewis
>mentions uBlock Oirigin >links article about Adblock Plus >comments after article suggesting people use uBlock Origin because it's better What did he mean by this?
>it's "modern" websites that are coded like shit and aren't optimized at all. Why are browsers not having tools (build in or plugin) to prevent this cancer.
How hard is it to have a simple setting that will tell that 1 tab can not eat more then 100MiB(or whatever you set it to be)?
Bentley Kelly
you don't need 16 GB to display 10 pages of text with hyperlinks and a few pictures. only pajeets are ok with that
Sebastian Rogers
WOW did you post a picture of yourself? >Maybe like, idk, at least 16GB which should be the minimum in any system in 2018 meanwhile in the OP >16GiB of RAM.
Chase Richardson
How the fuck can a browser bloat to this level? Like how what are they inserting there?
Levi Davis
Do you use your computer ONLY for browsing the web? are you a 12 yr old or a single mom in her 40s?
>Do you use your computer ONLY for browsing the web? are you a 12 yr old or a single mom in her 40s?
no, like i said i'm playing KSP at 1080p while encoding the screen capture in mp4 and streaming it. meanwhile i watch a soccer game that i display on my second monitor.
ALL OF THAT uses half as much memory as 4 tabs in my browser.
don't you see the issue there?
Adam Adams
i could buy more ram sure, but i don't want to buy more ram so that pajeets can keep their fucking job doing shitty unoptimized and nonsensical web developing. developers need to get their shit together.
