Windows 7 Thread

Microsoft's best operating system, Windows 7 SP1. Security updates available until 2020. Will you stop using it after support ends or hack it with your own patches?

xp isn't bloated.

BUMP

i have a w7 dvd with aio version, if I make a iso of it and put it in a USB(i have uefi bios and the 3.0 thing) and format it to ntfs am i going to have any problems? im so confused :_:

I just installed it today , I'm never gonna change.

Since the Security Rollups are cumulative (ex Jan fixes are combined with March ones) then it's a good idea to grab them from the update catalog till the 2020 cut date then use program such as NLite to make a slipstream iso with all updates applied. You can get the Convenience update w/ service stack update to get all updates post SP1 till March 2016 in one file. 2020 is just a year. Life will go on after that point, Windows 7 will still work just fine. Keep your firewall on/keep router ports locked down/ and keep antivirus up to date and you'll be fine. MS Security essentials that's baked in Windows Ten is same core that's used in standalone version, so that means that updates will happen for it for however long Ten is around.

Still using and developing software on WinXP. So no.

Anybody know how to enable Aero when running it under QEMU/KVM on linux?

Unfortunately i was forced to upgrade to 10 because I upgraded my rig and I didn't want to have to use hacks to get updates to work on my new processor.

All of this, and only this.

>what is wufuc.exe

seriously it's one "hack" and done, stop being a lazy botnet loving fag.

>hack it with your own patches?
Only if it was open-source.
I'd pay 300$ for windows, if it was open.. But for a now, fuck off, I am fine with 'activate Windows' thingy.
True. Features good UI, yet uses less than 128mb.

I'll keep doing what I do now: Win7/Linux dualboot. It just werks.

I love Windows 7 (:

It's a pile of shit that doesn't even support usb 3.0. Get over yourselves and install Windows 10 LTSB or switch to Linux.

nice background user, where from?

kill yourself immediately

came to say

I already turned off updates lol.

Plaza Bicentenario from www.ocvhermosillo.com

I'm still using Win XP. I'm thinking eventually I'll get a chromebook for web browsing and continue using the Win XP machine for everything else. For me "everything else" is primarily note taking with WordPad.

Why SP1?

What's the closest linux DE to windows 7? Honestly the perfect OS for me would be some linux distro with an exact clone of the windows 7 GUI.

looking at screenshots of windows 7 makes me angry. im using 10 now and it's visually a step down from 7. it's even a step down from 8 which says a lot. it's clear the designers at MS just gave up after 7. either that or they were fired and replaced with complete idiots.

Enjoy your 32 bit

best part about this screenshot is we can conclude windows 7 users have real women porn

I hope the Windows 7++ rumors are, true. ;_;

Sube pack we

Why not SP4?

What's that?

I want to reinstall it what's the best way to get the proper security updates and stuff? To avoid the telemetry shit?

A Wallpaper.

It's a rumored version of Windows that's supposed to be a version for power-users, enterprise, kiosks, etc... It's only rumored to be shown when Windows Polaris rolls out. With Polaris it's believed that Microsoft will ban all executables (this will be hard-coded with no option to disable) aside from those signed with their private keys.

gist.github.com/xvitaly/eafa75ed2cb79b3bd4e9

But already we have WES 7 and Thin PC.

Will those be updated after 2020?

Windows 7 until 2019
WES 7 until 2020.

Anyway, why do you need "updates"?
My system have been running fine since 2011 withouth any update.

> inb4 muh security
You must be too dumb if you don't know how to use your system without fucking it or getting a virus for open untrusted files.

>updating win7

Attached: iShiggeryDiggeryDoo.jpg (250x250, 17K)

Your right, but will companies stop making software for it? I'm using Maya 2018 and don't see any huge features to upgrade.

>it's clear the designers at MS just gave up after 7. either that or they were fired and replaced with complete idiots.

americans quit their company every 2 years on average

>but will companies stop making software for it?
Partially they will drop out the support, as they did it with WinXP.
But, Windows 7 still has more market share than Win8/8.1, so, I doubt they will be doing it soon...

Seriously that exists wew processors coming out on the market which are Win X only????? Holy shit!

>Windows 10 Is a pile of shit
Agree.

God you phaggots have the shortest memories ever

I thought windows 98 was the ultimate no?

Oh its xp? Win7 you say?

How long until win 10 is the nostalgia goggles platform

Windows 10 enters extended support (where 7 is right now) that same year. We'll see if windows 11 is any better.

support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet

Seattle here. Microsoft fired most of their testers and good designers a few years ago because they were too expensive for them.

Yeah, you get what you pay for.

>Microsoft will ban all executables (this will be hard-coded with no option to disable) aside from those signed with their private keys
The consumer PC market would implode if they did that.

Never, it was shit from the start on, so it stays shit. People can only hope for Windows 11 or whatever they will call it for things to improve.
Every second Windows is shit ... and Microsoft skipped 9 intentionally.

Can you still buy Windows 7, or do you guys just get it for free?

I'm more interested in a baby guide to setting it up without going through windows update.

who the fuck buys windows

is there any chance to buy a new i7 laptop with win10 but later install win7 on it?

I feel the same way, I just love windows 7 but it sucks that I cant use it because of the drivers

how I get free win 7 :(

Win 7 ultimate RHTBY-VWY6D-QJRJ9-JGQ3X-Q2289

I dknt have compute yet :((

I don't use updates to begin with, so keep using it until my applications and hardware support it (realistically 2025-2030), then set up a separate machine or VM with Windows 10, and use a Linux distro on the side customized more or less the same way.

>win7
>no dx12
>no xbone wireless controller adapter driver

Attached: file.png (256x256, 65K)

Just use a wired one and Vulkan.

Plasma

But that's really uncomfortable, as I'm palying games on a 4k oled tv from a couch. I'd need a long cable which would run over my whole room.
It wouldn't be as comfy.
I hate WIndows 10 so much Sup Forums, even at work I cannot migrate the company to linux because there are too many enterprise applications we rely on...

It's so pathetic that every time I'm installing a new PC I have to delete candy crush saga, bubble witch 3 saga, disney magic kingdoms, dolby access, march of empires: war of lords, adobe sketchbook, spotify, Minecraft for Windows 10....
Dude it's a fucking enterprise environment, get the fuck out.
Then you have to disable the xbox shit... I mean, there are xbox sevices installed by default on windows server 2016 too!?!?!?!?

end me pls

>I need moar ram for muh games

Attached: 1521789022135.jpg (720x736, 32K)

DX12 is still a meme with no good titles that require it and you can get xbone wireless working on Win7.

I just got off using LTSB 2016, I have some scripts if you want them?

>DX12
Oh no, you might miss out on playing an unfinished Deus Ex game, the horror

Sadly, we don't have licenses for LTSB, only windows 10 pros.

I use this script to get rid of all the bullshit bloat community.spiceworks.com/scripts/show/3977-windows-10-decrapifier-version-2
but it bothers me heavily that I have to use it to make a usable OS out of 10.

Thanks for the link, I've been looking for more ways to debloat 10. The scripts work for all versions of Windows 10 & 7...

> for muh games
Mate, games need at least 8 GB RAM nowadays, 16 are better. 8 gigs is the new norm for Facebook machines, because they deal with massive amount of JS.

>>no xbone wireless controller adapter driver
this

there is no justification for this

Then use a wireless 360 controller, Jesus. There's probably some unofficial way of getting the XB1 drivers to work on Win7 too, not that there's a single fucking difference between the two.

Besides enrerprises, it's not like anyone pays for windows, apart from when it's cheaper to buy a laptop with win10 on sale than the one with nothing and no sale, anyway.
I for one have never payed for office or windows, it's especially stupid now when we have open source kms activators.
Most people that care about .exe will have enough knowledge to pirate the version that supports it
The rest only care about having a facebook/steam machine, that plays netflix sometimes, I doubt they'll even notice it.

>I need to play my bing bing wahoos hurrrr

Attached: 1512080351131.png (617x347, 55K)

It works best with fresh installs.
The way I use it is this:
I make a temporary user on a fresh install (usually called "user") and run this script with -allusers and -clearstart
then I reboot, join AD, login as AD admin, delete "user" user, and now I'm free of every bloat apps, and some telemetry.

Microsoft's "support" is something I would normally avoid

>not that there's a single fucking difference between the two.
Why are you saying random shit about things you clearly have absolutely no clue about?

I unironically really like WordPad. It's a good middle-point between a text editor and a full word processor, and is lightning fast. I did all my college word in WordPad.

Does this also delete bloat from C:\Windows

UEFI Class 3+ requires secure boot to be enabled

>more comfortable
>battery pack is built in and not in the way
>dpad is fixed, now perfectly usable instead of being complete utter trash
>added trigger rumble, which is pretty awesome in racing games
It's literally improved in every way, so much that I hate using 360 controller now.

Can you still update Windows 7 safely? I thought it forces an upgrade to 10 now, or did I hear wrong? I haven't done an update it literally years, so I was planning to just run a virtual linux instance for any networking tasks and otherwise keep using Windows 7 without networking until it's no longer compatible with newer software or I'm dead.

Yes it is.
>bbut it's not as bloated in comparison to MegaBloatX
Sure, but it's still VERY bloated.

Win2k was WinXP without the fat.

Disable the windows update service, and only update manualley using wusa or dism. Both are command apps, you can use a cmd script to automate it.

You won't get Win10 upgrade stuff anymore. Instead Microsoft have switched to using Cumulative monthly update packs which contain telemetry and other shit. There are single "Security only" updates available but you need to install them manually as they're not available in Windows Update.

What do you need Windows for?

Windows 7 has better hardware support than Linex.

Why are you being a passive aggressive cunt over the explicit wording of something that has nothing to do with the topic?

I own both. You're like one of those people who uses an 8K screen or high end headphones once and says "I will literally NEVER be able to use anything else ever again in my life, what a burden I carry". You'll forget about it in a week.

>unofficial way of getting the XB1 drivers to work on Win7
Microsoft released official drivers for it.

Was Windows 10 perhaps designed by Pajeets? That would explain a lot.

Windows users always say they need it for work, which is dubious at best. They really just want it for the games and because they're under the impression that GNU+Linux is difficult to use.

Desktop compositor is trash on all DEs/ It gives me the impression that all those effects are accelerated in software. It results in lots of heat, less battery, if on a laptop, and crap performance.

It doesn't make my processor work full-time. Granted it probably would with Windows 10 (for obvious reasons), but my PC is quiet as a mouse with Windows 7, while even Xubuntu has the fan going constantly, and temps are much higher.

Thanks, I really should do a security update soon or stop using networking on this OS. But—and this is important—it looks like my procrastination has worked out for the best in the long run.

You could use Simplix update pack. Unfortunately it's made by some random Russian dude (personally I've used it on my Windows PCs/VMs with no problems as have a lot of people). The updates themself are untouched but it has no telemetry

Where do you get the keys?

Add in the obligatory spybot telemetry block (without the application of which you might aswell use w10 all the same) and this is a decent pasta

why are you idiots still using a deprecated os

>why are you idiots still using a non-free os
ftfy

>stop using something you've paid (maybe) for because some rich people wanted more money!
