I recently broke the screen of my $200 Chromebook I used for school and web browsing. I'm looking for at least a side grade, or hopefully an upgrade, no more than $400 Canadian though.
Things I care about:
Lightweight & Thin i'd LIKE a decent resolution screen, not sure if that's possible in my price range SOLID trackpad Decently quick, only going to use it for writing papers and web browsing so this shouldn't be a problem. I'd like to buy brand new, open to suggestions though.
Things I dont care about:
Operating System Battery Life (as long as its like 4 hours+) Hard Drive (Seriously like 10gb would be fine)
I would get a used X230 or X220. Amazing keyboard, very fast, massive upgrade from a chromebook. Will last much longer than any new laptop in that pricerange. Also they are only around $200.
Another Chromebook. An Acer CB 14 with FullHD 1080p screen is like $300 brand new.

Get x220 and install gentoo. Seriously.

Oh and make sure to get ips screen

does it have to be new/powerful? do you transport it around a lot (aka can it sit in one place?) if yes get an old used 17". they're great with 1600x900 screens what area are you in?

Don't buy new. You can buy any number of great used laptops for that price, such as a ThinkPad X220. See

How difficult are they to find in canada? I see a few on craigslist, any issues I need to look out for regarding these laptops?
This is the Chromebook I use for school. Long battery life, quick for web browsing and paper writing. Touch screen and tablet mode is also top tier cozy for web browsing

Where the fuck do i get a thinkpad for a decent price? Whenever i look online, i only see pages selling the shittier models for like 300 USD. Do i really have to be a part of a company liquidating these, if i want a decent price?

get a Xiaomi Mi Notebook (also sold as MiBook, it's the same product) Air or Pro. Comes with chinese windows and you'll need to do a clean install in your language (without activating it, it will pick up the product key from the BIOS), but other than that extremely high quality for the price. also battery life is 7.5+ hours

How is this under $400?

get a used surface pro 3. i got mine new for 560$ new like 2 years ago and i'm still using it now. you can regularly find them used for 350-400$ with the keyboard included. mine's been great
i have no such issues on either the origional screen or the second one after i broke the first. i don't understand what your chink laptop has to do with my surface if it isn't made by microsoft? microsoft doesn't make screens, but they do own n-trig now
microsoft uses a certain screen, which they custom ordered from a manufacturer. my chink laptop uses the same exact screen, including the digitizer and glass, so the microsoft pen works on it.

While the X220 keyboard is much better than the x230, the x230 keyboard is still very good compared to any other laptop.

what model? i've never heard of this. a chuwi or something? the surface pens work on a couple other devices, including some sony stuff and i believe some specific lenovo models. i have a sony pen as a backup

Stop being a little shit and fix it yourself. If it was made before 2017 it should be repairable.
Fuck off back to /sqt/

Just because other laptops have rubbish keyboards doesn't mean the X230 keyboard is even remotely usable.
