hospice the thread

The opening always makes me think of this album

Why do you guys like OPN? He doesn't know how to "compose," properly speaking. The "great" albums like Replica, R+7, and GoD were compacted by juxtaposition, repetition, or successive superimpositions, procedures clearly of limited bearing. He's a hack.

who's better?

Actress
Julia Holter
HHH

etc

Album isn't 10/10 for me, but Airbag's intro is my favorite intro for any album in existence.

I work out to this album

awteker

...

but muh aural gems

I don't even speak whatever language this is and I like it

That album is shit

I thought you liked GoD?

They don't know how to compose either.

What entails "composing properly"?

>when you judge music you haven't heard

OP here, I did and its shit

...

...

It's English, if you can believe it.

Kid A

This was TLOP with Ultralight Beam. I was so dissapointed when I listened to the other songs :(

Young Metro doesn't trust this guy.

these absolutely

the first tracks are actually some of my least favorite oj these albums

>airbag is one of least favorites on OKC

i respect your opinion but disagree

...

Properly utilizing structure, harmony, themes to develop a work in a coherent fashion: not juxtaposing random elements next to one another.

I don't see how OPN doesn't do this. Americans is a perfect example.

Morphine - Good

A perfect example of how he'll simply cut away to many discordant samples and lay them on top of each other haphazardly in an attempt to seem like he knows how to compose.

How has nobody posted this

Hardcore UFOs gets me in the right mood

Forever Breathes the Lonely Word

That's an established approach. Some of those adjectives make it seem like you have an arbitrary bone to pick

>being a namefag
>not knowing anything about music, but then trying to lecture someone who does

Established approach by who? Go on.

...

Established by the composer

Who is "the composer?"

How do you know when a random sequence of notes stops being that and becomes a melody and eventually a composition?

*guitar clangs*

Shit's about to get real

You didn't answer the question.

>claiming you know anything about music, but proving otherwise in your posts

TLOP's a 9.6 m8

HOE. HAS THISNIT BERN pistens

I'm another poster. You didn't answer my question

Not him, but in this case OPN, weather or not he used a traditional method of composition or not.

>weather

Plunder phonics is a thing

>He doesn't know how to "compose,"
name someone in electronic music that does loam loam

13 of 13 does that count as well?Than this will be it:

Oops I made a spelling mistake, so I guess that means you don't have to actually respond.

>Actress
It's like Flying Lotus after you mute half the tracks in the DAW

just those first 5 seconds holy shit

I know none of you kids will like these guys, but I loved them, and this album and their 2nd are 10/10s to me.

Bait but you probably don't know Lopatin invented vaporwave with Eccojams

*symbol smash*

>symbol
literally fucking how?

...

lol

the start of that album is so immediately captivating to me. everything just sounds otherworldly. and that weird ass drum beat. and it doesnt take long for the chanting. at that point was when i knew this album would be a 10. huhh
>tfw you'll never listen to The Residents for the first time again

>It's causing easy ought to just leave a lust alone
>But when a friend has shrunken skin where do you throw the bone?

why did you have to remind me of this now ;-;

On the vinyl of it, the sound of what appears to be a symbol plays first.

>A perfect example of how he'll simply cut away to many discordant samples and lay them on top of each other haphazardly in an attempt to seem like he knows how to compose.
I know you're just baiting but that's not even close to what he does.

There are a lot of jarring shifts in his songs, but they all sync up to one of the running polyrhythms and create a lot of melodic interest.

And the actual reason for the shifts isn't some gimmicky jump-scare type thing. It progresses the songs in a cohesive way.

If you're looking purely at the domain of classical composition (pitch + voices + time), then no, perhaps he's not a brilliant composer in the traditional sense. But he's a very good and tasteful arranger (and sound designer etc.). He's one of the few electronic producers I've heard who can make drone-ish and hypnotic music without it ever being boring for a moment. At least in his latest few albums.

FWIW, Dan has joked that he's more or less a hack and said his method for creating his earlier albums up until Returnal was "multi track and lies"
But in terms of being able to compose s feeling or a sense of place he's an expert
