What is THE distro to go to when you're tired of all the distro-hopping?
What is THE distro to go to when you're tired of all the distro-hopping?
Windows 10 after you realize all of them are shit
Solus
Install Gentoo
The one you found out you like the best during your distro hopping period
Fuck, had to fill in like 15 captchas to post
whichever one meets your needs best (repos, package management, default setup/system organization, stable vs. bleeding edge)
Gentoo
windows 7
even luke broke his own rule. He moved one of his chinkpads to Void and was considering Gentoo as well
get out of my thread
fedora
The only sane man here
The one that you like the best
arch linux
I use arch btw
Void is the best distro over there. Even the guy in OP's picture agree to that.
Windows 7 and don't fuck with that faggot penguin
It was Arch for me.
Windows 10 is so fucking shit that my install ruined itself after too many failed updates. I’m planning on wiping that partition and adding the space to my Linux LVM because W10 no longer boots.
Debian unstable
GNOME 3 was the original reason for the distro hopping phenomena. People used to be comfy with Obongo GNOME but then they decided to make that huge change all of the sudden and most users lost their shit with the massive RAM usage and GPU abuse, moving to other flavours and eventually other distros. Cinnamon was born. MATE was born. Hopping went mainstream. Eventually Unity happened and made everything even worse.
Now, with Unity kill and current computers finally able to manage GNOME 3 without exploding we may be looking at a rebirth of vanilla obongo. It would be nice.
Pic unrelated
Xubuntu, it's just werks like Ubuntu but with less bloat.
Something that just werks but a bit ugly?
Xubuntu
Something that's pretty but may not be that stable?
elementaryOS
Something different but still usable and stable?
Manjaro
Something in between all those?
Ubuntu 18.04, maybe. We'll see.
Debian or Solus
The rupee will to be the deposit of account.
Xubuntu
ZorinOS Lite
xubuntu
This
Debian ia the only answer
I see even Pajeet is hiring people to do the dirty work for him
Windows, or Mac OS X for real.
And this
NixOS
Just press skip every time the button appears, only solve the ones that have the verify button.
I stopped distro hopping at Arch 6 years ago
>nixos
>not GuixSD
soyboys everywhere
Alpine Linux
Linux sucks. Use Microsoft Windows or macOS
Debian stable
>windows, macOS, alpine,
Why is everyone so stupid ITT.
Is it satirical?
you wish
the most supported distro (ubuntu) with the most stable DE (Xfce)
>Linux* distributions
- openSUSE/Fedora
- Debian
- Linux From scratch
>Other systems
Windows, Mac OS X.

* not all include GNU.
Unironically gentoo
When you finally set it up just they way you like there is no reason to change
Windows 7 still exists. While it does, there's no reason to use Linux.
Only 2 years left.
Using Kubuntu right now, it's pretty great.
manjaro
Arch stopped my distro hopping 10 years ago, but I recently moved to Gentoo.
All systems you mentioned are gnu systems.
Linux from scratch.
No distro - no problems. Full freedom, as RMS would say.
LFS isn't a distro, it's a book.
Ubuntu is good enough for me but u can always use window without activating it
That's right. No distro - no problems.
Just very good manual for installing pure Linux and GNU utils on top of it.
Proprietary pig disgusting antisocial pile of fucking shit.

I didn't really consider it distro hopping. I view most distro as the testing grounds for most of the desktop environments. I originally started fucking around with Linux back in 2004 with Knoppix and Ubuntu. I only lasted a week or so on each before rolling back to Windows XP. The desktop experience was total shit at the time and there was very little reason to use it beyond hosting a LAMP server... to what? Make some teenage blog about how George Bush is going to nuke the world? I just rolled back to XP and lived the normie life until Windows 8 showed up with it's abomination of a DE. From there I started off on Ubuntu and learned there was other desktop environments via Youtube. Watched the guides on youtube written by some pajeet or breathless neckbeard and loaded the PPA and switched. Figured it would be better just to just switch to Linux Mint if i wanted to use Cinnamon. Learned more about Linux and the CLI. Heard about some other distro called Arch Linux and that they had a public repository called the AUR that didn't require loading 8 trillion PPA into the package manager and that their webpage was extremely accessible for finding packages. Switched over to Arch world and never left. I use Antergos now because I already know whats involved in the install process for Arch and have no real interest in the self indulgent "I set this up myself" meme.
Honestly, if more distro had a clean functional webpage like Arch Linux does the Linux community would have a better reputation. Most other distro don't even have the fucking packages listed on their site.
This.
There's a Solus KDE iso, you know?
There's also MATE and Budgie, no need to leak your memory away with Gnome.
Laptop has been running Debian stable for 3 years. Gone through 2 upgrades. Still running strong with 0 hiccups. Current uptime: 50 days.
slackware
Source-based: Gentoo.
Binary-based with systemd: Debian.
Binary-based without systemd: Not sure.
Ubuntu because it is the easiest to install. Otherwise Arch.
Fedora is comfy
i really like kubuntu the most out of the distros i've tried.
these, if you got literally nothing out of distro hopping then why did you do it?
my dude!
xubuntu
debian with xfce / kde
debian net iso with i3
Budgie is the default DE retard
Solus.
If you don't know it yet, you will once their big update drops.
I can easily see Solus becoming a top competitor in the next few years.
fedora unironically
Ubuntu MATE.
>xubuntu
literally crashes at start up
can't make this shit up
I've used Arch for four years now, I don't think I will hop anywhere, maybe Debian once I get old.
Stock ubuntu
>xubuntu
>debian xfce
The only good version of Xfce is the ZorinOS one.
Antergos(because fuck manually managing arch)
>Binary-based without systemd:
If you don't use one of the pozzed downstream projects, you can have Debian working almost properly without systemd, it's like 3-4 commands to chemo it up.
Not how it should be, but it's workable until the inevitable happens.
Void
void isn't downstream.
was talking about the Debian packages depending on systemd
Oh ok, I thought you were talking about all those derivative distros out there.
found my one true distro brehs
lewd wallpaper
Debian
W10 LTSB
Xubuntu
Arch for desktops, Ubuntu for servers.
>literally crashes at start up
Guess you were unlucky. I installed xubuntu on my Latitude E6420 and literally everything just werks™ including the wifi without any additional setup.
freebsd desu
Some variant of Ubuntu.
I really want to try Solus KDE, but the ISO is only available to patreons (me being a poorfag). And when I tried to install it from the terminal through eopkg, I kept getting some error about a checksum. Anyway, I couldn't get it to work.
Do you have a link to this Solus iso user?
The only thing that puts me off Solus is fucking gtk.
For me, it's arch linux with LARBS.
Comfy as fuck and I don't have to spend any time configuring anything.
He came here just to post it.
Sorry dude, I don't have a link, never bothered to search for one.
Budgie is quite comfy right now. I need stable stuff, so I'm gonna wait for the official KDE release and see if I make the change.
What command have you tried? The recommended one is this, if I'm not mistaken:
sudo eopkg install -c desktop.kde
Also, you can ask for help on IRC. Both ikey and sunnyflunk (the guy responsible for the KDE release) are really active there.
Thanks, I'm going to try this command tonight. Hopefully, it works.
Fedora
Arch
Linux Mint unironically
>Debian:suddenly stopped being able to write to external disks even after 777'ing them
>Ubuntu mate: worked fine for a month then the login screen broke, after you put the pass the screen goes black and you were back to the log in screen again
>Kali: my machine literally screams and crashes if you try to boot their distro from usb i couldn't even try the live version
>parrot:if you encrypt it with luks the installation freezes at the end and corrupts the whole volume
>Linux mint:works just like the first day after using it for a year
This is an entirely ridiculous answer.
1] one-man band distro
2] already been abandoned once before
With all the other choices out there, there are way better alternatives.
if I had to choose one distro now? Probably Debian. I find it easy and I don't have to think about it.
Though I am warming to Slackware.
