just bought a XFX RX 580 for $450.

inb4 someone said I should i have got nvidia.

I did originally go with a GTX 1080 Ti, but was encountering horrible stuttering issues, DPC latency and freezing with programs, games, and video playback. NVIDIA refused to admit there was a problem, tried countless bios settings, driver versions, etc. Gave up, went AMD, now i'm not having any issues.

$0, got it from friend upgrading to a gtx 690. He gave it to me after I'd rushed him to hospital during a lan when his stomach was playing up (was a hernia on his stomach/intestine link), took him there, drove him back home then back again later that morning for the results and when i got back he came down and handed me the gpu and told me to keep it as thanks. Sorta paid it forward by giving my gtx 560ti to brothers friend at a lan a few weeks later for free to upgrade his gtx 260.

Honestly one of the best hardware purchases I had ever made. Given the current GPU market, it’s retained its value incredibly well. Its performance is on par with a GTX 1060 which retails for 400 mountain shekels at the moment. (1 CHF ~ 1USD)

Had this sucker for 6 years and got some major use out of it. After the first few years it began getting hot and loud. I had to lubricate one of the fan bearings with sewing machine oil and squeezed a few extra months out of it. Now the fan is locking up at high speeds again and making disturbing noises. I could probably oil it up again, but its a hassle to keep babying it. Applying new thermal paste would be really tricky with the MSI hood. From what I read the factory paste shouldnt wear out after 6 years

On the bright side, the rest of my build is in really good shape.
