X220 vs X230? Looking for a good programming box to compliment my desktop as well as make some notes in lectures.

I've owned a thinkpad p50 since july 2016 and honestly I love it like a person.

Seconding this, looking for either of those too.

X220 would easily suffice for your needs. Especially with its keyboard unless you prefer chiclets.

Stop making these shitty threads

X230 if you want to fuck with keyboard mods
X220 if not
chiclet keyboards are OK to type on, definitely still better than 90% of other modern laptops, but the layout is shit

redpill me on a thinkpad for use with FL studio/DAW work.

right now i'm looking at this Vivobook from Asus (amazon.com/VivoBook-i5-8250U-NanoEdge-Fingerprint-F510UA-AH51/dp/B0762S8PYM/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1522148635&sr=1-1&keywords=asus laptop) and it's looking perfect, but i don't want to have to drop $500 if i can get something comparable for cheaper.

I'm not too worried about resolution, so much that i'm looking for performance. If i can find a decent deal on a thinkpad with similar processing power (and room to expand storage and memory) i'd be all ears for it.

My friend recently purchased a T520 with a shitty HD screen (1367 x 768) and wants to upgrade.

Can anyone confirm or deny that this particular model has difficulty with FHD panel upgrades?

To the best of my knowledge an upgrade would run into issues if the LVDS cable was single channel; is there any way to find out if this upgrade is possible without some kind of third party LVDS bullshit?

Literally any thinkpad can handle fruitypoops

T430 user here. Fucking love that laptop. It's the best one I've ever owned.

The T430 is great but seriously fuck those low res screens.

I have a HP elitebook folio 9470m, what can i do to screw around with it?

What is a better purchase;

AUD$450
T440 - i5-4300u/8GB RAM/256GB SSD/1080p TN (no trackpad mod)

or

AUD$400
T450 - i5(can't see on his image but I'm guessing 5300u)/4GB RAM/500GB HDD/768p TN

Fuck off with this shit.

Dont use lcdkings on ebay, they market the IPS screens but send the TN, be sure to ask before you buy.

i have to choose a new ssd, which one is better between Kingston v300 and Samsung 840EVO both 120GB

Put it in the trashcan where it belongs.

Has anyone here corebooted a T420 for Windows 10 usage?

Yes but not that model, and only temporarily to see if I could. But what's the point? You're freeing your BIOS just to run a botnet OS anyways. If you really want to do it, then just use SeaBIOS or Tiano Core. Those are the only payloads that I've been able to get the Windows Loader to boot from without any issues. Tiano Core is probably the best, but I don't know if you'd want an EFI necessarily. Don't use GRUB as the payload. It has issues booting the Windows Loader unless it's installed on a disk and not in the BIOS ROM. I don't know why but it gave me blue screens.

I tested SeaBIOS with Windows 7 and Tiano Core with Windows 7 and Windows 10 LTSB on a T400 and X230. T400 has SeaBIOS and X230 had it too but I replaced it with Tiano Core so I can boot from a 4TB GPT disk.

My thinkpad x201i is being used for the following

used a cf reader to write files for my HP NX6125
there was a peice of tin stoping the laptop from booting so i removed it. and it works well

got lots of CnC games in it working flawessly
found a bottleneck using the 1.8GHz stock cpu
the Old HP woun't work with out a IDE HDD so i had to buy one from a dead laptop on ebay.

battery is DOA on the HP6125 need a new one
My x201 has far more ram than my NX6125's 2GB of ram max and way more storage than the 6125's piteful 55GB HDD and bigger ones woun't work on the connector

I think i found a way around I've got a IDE to SATA HDD caddy to replace the dvd drive
But i ran into a snag
all my games require a cd drive for DRM

HELP !!!!
HP is better bisness wise its keypad feels better on the older models Op
But i like my thinkpad as well

There you have the answer.

Is it possible to install a m.2 SSD in a T430s with this adapter?

m.ebay.com/itm/B-Key-M-2-NGFF-SSD-to-SATA-2-5-7-15-22Pin-Converter-Adapter-Card-for-ADATA-2230/132504965482

I don't care about the speed that much, as long as it's faster than a mechanical drive and less noisy.

Of course, you can.

Is 1360x720 the highest resolution i can get on my x220? i think the connector can handle 1400x900 technically, but i haven't found any screen with that resolution for my thinkpad.

Great now we have CIA niggers in space glowing brighter than the sun.

Ok Sup Forums, just got a T420, first thinkpad in my life. Picrelated, what the fuck am I looking at? It catches WiFi including 5Ghz despite apparently not having a card, and posts 4Gb of ram despite bot having a stick. I'm currently taking it apart so fuck knows what other weird shit I'll find inside

Attached: 20180327_182447.jpg (2976x2976, 2.08M)

nigger just get one with a 1600x900 display

Nvm I'm just a fucking retard apparently, sorry for a low quality post

I already have a thinkpad with a 1080p screen, but is a chinkpad that's why I'm looking for a sub 14 with a resolution higher than 720p, i guess a moded x230 is my only choice.

That's is for the 3g card including the antennas, on newer thinkpads you can put an ssd in there, not sure about a t420 tho.

Is there any reason that a m2 ssd that I have from 2015 won't work today? Lenovo sent it to me when I got my x1 fixed but I haven't touched it since. It's still in the box that they sent me.

I want to put it in my t480.

If you're looking to buy a nuPad with corporate perks, I made a site to track the discounts on all the latest models, updated every 6 hours.

My T420s should be showing up tomorrow, anything I should know about getting linux set up properly on it?

thoughts on the x240?

>Stop making these shitty threads
I just made this thread to troll the other shitty ones. And now I find a day later it's the only one to survive.

Idab here

t440s is still the best thinkpad

0 cons

Nobody needs to remove the CPU. It's the most efficient.

Quad core CPU is a meme on these thermals.

You can't be that noisy in a library

My fan stays off.

Attached: IMG_20180327_205344128_LL.jpg (4160x3120, 3.38M)

Why is the T480 so expensive?

I want one with an SSD, 2x4GB of RAM, and 1080p so bad, it'd be the perfect laptop for me, but it's price is getting into overpriced Ultrabook territory.

Idab here

>Inb4 idab is a nu-pad cuck

I used this x60 for 3-4 years as my daily driver

It's 2018 and I update my hardware accordingly, you should too user.

Attached: IMG_20180327_210553304_LL.jpg (3264x2448, 1.59M)

T440s with those specs. Very similar. Less than $500 USD in mint condition. (8gb, 256 SSD, fresh batteries, IPS fhd)

I'd prefer an 8th gen CPU. I plan to use it for programming as long as possible.

Anyone have any idea why my t420 is not able to click on everything in the screen? Like only some stuff and side menu keeps opening.

>Idab
am i supposed to know who you are or something? kys

This is embarrassing.

Should I reapply thermal paste if I'm replacing my fan?

P50 and T480 here

i need help anons. I recently got an x220 to replace my T430 (artifacting). But now when i use my headphones the sound occasionally hangs, and makes the errrt sound for a split second. It's fuckin annoying. Anyone have an idea?

Attached: aaaaaa.gif (498x278, 767K)

How's the battery?

Am I the only person who doesn't mind TN panels or the T430 lowres 1366x768 screen? I'm more sensitive to refresh rates.

Never see anything about the e431 edge on here. Is it complete shit for some reason?

CCNA and p50 here too. Lol are you me?

Hello I would like to remind everyone that for internet browsing, playing the shit out of CS 1.6, and YouTube (as long as it's not 1080p) the T-60 ThinkPad is the literally best laptop around.

Thank you

I work as IT support at a company with about 2000 employees, everyone has a thinkpad. We've noticed that keycaps often fall off. The insurance doesn't cover this because they think it's the user that's careless.

When chatting with a lenovo salesperson who sold this she asked "do you have trouble with keycaps falling off", didn't think much of it then but now it's a real pain in the ass and costs much money.

Does any of you have the same experience with keycaps falling off?

I don't see how Keycaps fall off on Thinkpads without prying. Unless you have Manicured Nails and they keep digging under the Keys. I've never seen keycaps falling off unless it came in contact with Children.

pls help

That should say it all.
It's still a good plastic Acer-like laptop, but don't blame Sup Forums if you purchase it and it will be w/o a docking port or ExpressCard port.

I like Yui.

Try a different player? I had this problem with AIMP 1.x. Or try ASIO or something.

it doesnt seem to matter what player or application that it does it to. Like sometimes it does it on youtube or netflix, and sometimes its every 30 sec or it wont even happen for hours. i just want my comfy thinkpad ;~;

why would you want to? just buy a cheaper sata ssd.

Tfw your MacBook has no chinkvantage button

This is a problem with the E series. My sister has one and the A key is really fucking loose, much like her vagina.

X230 if you want a step-up in performance. x220 if you want to join the meme team on this board.

T440. The trackpad mod is retardedly easy.

i have $500

give some aussie sellers so that I can buy now

What can you guys suggest ?
I already had an x220 before and hated it due to many reasons (to name a few):
shitty build quality (lots of rubber pieces and hdd cover coming off)
screen bleeding
shitty screen

Im looking into getting an T4xx
-t420 looks good but im not sure if its deprecated or not and if its even worth getting at this point
-t430 looks the best right now but im not sure how it will fair with linux
-also not sure between t440 and t440p what the differences are and if its worth looking into those ones

Attached: 1519975048774.jpg (960x720, 108K)

T430 works perfectly with linux. However T420 is not deprecated and will probably last you 5+ years

Any of you fags sell chinese batteries refit with brand new cells? I'd 70 bucks.

I'm thinking of getting the t430 if I can't get it for around 100 and replace keyboard, what are the difference interns of CPUs ?
Is there a huge difference between the t4x0 i5/i7 which is noticeable ?

T420 has a Core i5 2nd gen while T430 has a Core i5 3nd gen. Not worth unless you can get the t430 at the same price and replace the keyboard (or you are one of those weirdos who like chiclet keyboards)

which one do you think is more worth it ?

What is the difference between t420s and t420 ?
I found a really nice t420 for a great price, is it worth to bite the bullet and get a t420 instead ?

s is thinner and more expensive

i found a really cheap one for 100 and not sure if its worth it ; people say it overheats and is not customization and is really easily scratches and gets generally fucked easier

anyone recognizes this model? ad in facebook giving this away for free and mentioning it has windows XP - wondering if it's worth my time to drive and get it

T420

This. No one cares about shitty Discord "servers"

Ok so I bought that p50 for 1500€ and it has an i7 and 3 ssd and 16 gigs of ram and an m2000m.

Then I see gaming laptops with also quad core i7 and 1050ti cards costing less.

Why are Lenovo laptops more expansive? Had I known I would have purchased one of those gaming laptops, even the xiaomi one. Looks good too.

Did I fuck up? Did I pay for better.build quality? The screen sure does suck. I need to change it, it's got bad backlight bleeding.

I need a laptop for work, so I move it around a lot. I know gaming laptops, in the past, were fragile and. I would see folks at university with such laptop and they always had an issue at the hinges and what not. Is that still the case with today's gaming laptop?

T4* of some sort.

just get it anyway desu

I Just bought a X220, did I fuck up?

x201 with 1440x900 and a i7, and coreboot.

or

x60 with 1400x1050 and t7100, and libreboot.

I have a x60 and a x200, and am deciding which one to upgrade.

>xiaomi
There are chinks you can sort of trust, and then chinks you cannot trust at all. Lenovo are the former, Xiaomi are definitely the latter. You'd have a lot of fun with their shit breaking after a year or two, if my experience with their phones is anything to go on.

T420

This bastard of a thread didn't die and now it's about to be new thread
Fuck

Coreboot will still boot faster, and you don't have to put up with hardware blacklists. It's better than stock BIOS regardless of what you run.
