None of you mentioned chroot as the obvious answer yet. I conclude that you're all retarded and should kill you're selfs

What is single user mode

>being in charge of remembering a password
I blame your parents.

OP said root password.

this
or just chroot and change it from live usb

we all fell for his bait, didnt we?

You actually can get around this if you have physical access. If you have a VPS though, and you can't change it from the panel, you may be out of luck though.

sudo passwd

/thread

>chroot
How do you do this if you forgot the luks password?

luks password is different from root password

you knew this and still posted that

>luks password is so easy that you can remember it to begin with

ITT: proof that Sup Forums will flock to provide tech support if you incorporate even the poorest of bait

>he doesn't have it shoved up his ass to prevent this situation

Linux runs of best if you're delete system 32

change the s to a dollar sign

mount disk from another system and edit shadow file

Would this work?

every time

>forget password
>can't access PC
wow who would have thunk

if you have physical access to the machine you shouldn't need to reinstall...

Usually you don't even need to do that, if you boot with grub you can boot on recovery mode and go from there.

>what is chroot-ing another root file system

>give password to someone else
>he can access your pc

lincucks will defend this

>everyone saying chroot
Literally use passwd and copy the output

Did you just assume my subphylum?

>forget keys
>call locksmith to open front door.
>locksmith opens door in 2 seconds using a piece of plastic.

>take a shower
Where do you think you are?

>plus tip
>euro's

Unless you have an SSH server running and the correct ports open on your router, why would you need separate passwords for 20 different machines?

recovery mode you dumb fuck

>2018
>SSH
>Password
I hope you don't do this

Would it be OK to use the same key pair on all 20 servers?

Serverlet here, only have 1 server at the moment but curious nonetheless.

sudo su, reboot in single user mode, or chroot into the partition and manually change the passwords

>sudo su
Lol pleb. I use sudo sudo su -c 'sudo su'

Wait, would be the same thing happen in windows?

sudo passwd root?

>Would it be OK to use the same key pair on all 20 servers?
If someone gets that one private key your 20 servers get pwnd, so of course is a bad idea, specially when you can write a config file in your .ssh folder and forget about which key goes with which server and just "ssh MyServer", now encrypted private keys with the same password are a different issue, but that's on you and how careful you are with your files.

Give it back Jamal

Any decent VPS provider has a way to access the console of the VM

If I store all 20 private keys right next to each other how is it less risky than storing just one key?

.....unless I hive those keys somewhere in my massive porn folder.

That's why you encrypt your keys, ssh, scp and even dolphin are smart enough to ask for the password for your key.

Also it doesn't have to be the same folder, as i said, write a config file on ~/.ssh like this
host notGoogle
HostName google.com
IdentityFile ~/.trash/my.key
User user
Port 11222

See how you can point anywhere with the IdentityFile line, then just "ssh notGoogle" without even specifying an user or a port, if the key is encrypted it will ask for the password.

> chroot
lol. chroot requires root ya dingus.

you can chroot from a livecd without reinstalling your system though

those are nice trips, but I have no idea what you said there

>reinstall operating system
>separate /home partition
>everything works like before including rice

Press F13

>partition
>not using an entirely separate disk

Nigger what are you doing

Backing up daily to my raidz.
