too hot

STOP

FAT

SHAMING

because cooling effectiveness is directly related to surface area, single slot means less surface area for cooling which means worse cooling, worse efficiency, and worse performance

and there is not much demand for low performing single slot cards, so they don't make them

this, but additionally the fan also is much less effective.

I get that argument for high-end 200W+ TDP cards, but you'd think there'd be something in the midrange that's single-slot.

anyone that neeeds that much power has space for something bigger.

For those lower end ones, there mostly are single slot versions.
The high end cards actually do have single slots versions for professional use cases.

Obviously too hot as mentioned already, but what is also clear is that you could easily get more performance out of the same single slot graphics card if you fitted a larger cooler that makes it into a two slot card (high clocks, better cooling and efficiency overall, etc) for air cooling.

Two slot graphics cards have also become more normal than single slots and as a result motherboard manufacturers tend to layout their PCI-E slots for two graphics card with good clearance between the two for air flow (same similarly applies for motherboards that support more than two graphics card).

That said only exceptions to this rule for single slot graphics cards which exist are liquid cooled graphics card (possible if the back plate is adjusted and doesn't have two slots of ports) and low end graphics cards (might become pointless if integrated CPU graphics is better).

The bigg issue I have with these cards is that there's often a 2nd slot available for full exhausting but they don't provide a clipon or ducting to get all of the heat out of the case. Also, motherboard manufacturers are niggers thus put silly ass pinouts at the bottom of the mobo prohibiting dual slot cards in the last slot even though ATX calls for it.. All of the heat from this just ours out into the bottom of your case or onto the back of the card in the next slot .. Industry has some stupid ass legacy designs that it has yet to bring forward and innovate on. 2018 and Quadros are still using the same fucking design as they did 10 years ago.

Reliability.

... too hot, lady
Gotta run for shelter
Gotta run for shade...

>1U servers perform worse than 4U servers with the same chips
stay retarded

What he said. 1070 runs pretty hot, which means that either it needs a big cooling system, or that the fan has to spin much faster, which means the card will be pretty loud. Think 1U servers, they are loud as fuck.

>comparing server equipment with desktop parts
Also 1u servers still hold dual slot cards and have the advantage that they can be loud as fuck as they want

Because the ATX form factor allows for a dual slot gpu with no problem. Plus having less cooling would force them to undervolt the cards.
But really though, would you want these in the market today?
>single slot undervolted card
Crypto miners would immediately buy them out first.

Double slot look more impressive. People like seeing big thick graphics cards

because the only way to get a graphics card with any power is to dump loads of real power into it, which makes it hot as fuck.
Simply put, they dump enough power for a space heater into the graphics card just to get it up to par with modern expectations, because running up YOUR electric bill is cheaper for (((them))) than if they were to foot the bill on learning how to make chips that are efficient AND powerful.

Hot and not enough connections.

No reason to thermally gimp a gpu.

Gaymer fags all have monstrous RGB glass cases, so making technology smaller has been dropped to please obese man children who want big GPUs to show off.

>not wanting a monster GPU

And you call yourselves pccomputer matsre gaymers, pffft.

I have the card in the OP, because I was able to cop it for 560 aus bucks in january, which was around the price of gtx 1060 3GB cards at the time, and all the other 1070s were over $750. It has shit temps and minimal OC headroom, but it's still a 1070 and reaches 100+ fps in doom with max settings and no vsync at 1440p. I also tried mining with it, and got 410 sol/s on equihash and 29.5 mh/s on dagger hashimoto
