Band's debut is great/amazing

>band's debut is great/amazing
>they have potential to make several 8 or 9/10 albums
>the rest of their discography is just a big decline in comparison to the first

What is their name Sup Forums?

Radiohead

The Mars Volta

The Avalanches

Arctic Monkeys

the strokes

Nirvana

Bloc Party

Opeth

The B-52's. Although their slide was gradual until after Mesopotamia.

>band's debut is average and unremarkable
>band's sophomore album is more promising but still nothing exceptional
>rest of the band's albums thus far range from very good to fantastic

What's their name?

Talk Talk

Interpol

I'll accept it, but it's not who I had in mind

The National

Surfer Blood.

music is good

Deerhunter to a tee imo. The second half of Cryptograms was where they found their sound.

Bingo

>implying FTM isn't the best thing Cedric has ever done

Death Grips

first thing I thought, too

>Band makes one of the GOAT debut albums
>Singer immediately disowns it
>Singer writes tons of unreleased songs during this time
>They break-up
>He will never release those songs

Get out.

Decapitated

>band has a consistently adventurous and illustrious career
>critics and general populace only care about the group's first 3 albums

Burial

Kenosha, Wisconsin's own...

nice meme guys lmao jokes over

My first guesses were Love and The Smashing Pumpkins, but I think it's probably Wire

has contrarianism gone too far?

>band's debut album is very promising
>sophomore album is universally praised as the new standard of the genre
>third album is literal perfection

Yep. At this point Julian's gotta just walk away and do his own thing, for good.

>saying MCIS isn't amazing

contrarian maymay

Weezer

I wouldn't say Exmilitary is average or unremarkable, but it's certainly uninteresting to non-hip hop fans like me

Nirvana?

I wasn't implying that, I was just saying that in The Pumpkins' career only Gish, Siamese Dream and Infinite Sadness get any real critical acclaim, but not stuff like Adore or Machina (which are both pretty good)

Tame Impala d e s u

A bit of a stab in the dark, but The Stooges?

Weezer is the most bland artist to be universally adored on Sup Forums.

What often happens is that a band's debut is made up of songs that they've been writing and tweaking for months/years, songs they wrote in high school that they've been constantly working on, etc. They release the debut under a record label. It gets produced well, advertised, produces a lot of hype. Then, the label presses them to make another, preferably in under 3 years. So they crank out these hastily written songs without the pressure of "making it", but instead "staying relevant", which of course is most effectively achieved by sticking with the original sound. Or, they go a completely different direction (producer, style, instruments) and it's not focused enough and comes out badly. Of course there's exceptions but the trend usually makes these bands fade into obscurity.

death grips

Boards Of Canada

Daft Punk, regrettably

>campfire headphase
>better than either of their two previous albums
no

>implying RAM isn't a 10/10 masterpiece

Kanye West (replace Graduation with MBDTF though)

accurate :(

>band's debut album is very promising
Twoism
>sophomore album is universally praised as the new standard of the genre
Music Has The Right To Children
>third album is literal perfection
Geogaddi

that's either an EP or a mini-album you dip
also BoC Maxima

Everything Everything, mark my words

Lilys - In the Presence of Nothing
This debut is amazing, but the rest after that is fairly forgettable

Yeasayer

>band's debut is good but not great
>you think they can really knock it out of the park on their next album
>instead they fuck off for 10 years and make jack shit
>the reunion album is mediocre

RAM is pretty good

CAN

if anyone has the audacity to say animal collective, i will kick you in the nuts or ovaries

Twoism isn't an album

If this isn't The Avalanches I don't know what is, but if it is then you are jumping the gun.

that's actually a solid analysis of it

Not the Avalanches since SILY was literal perfection.

MGMT although Congratulations is almost as good.

Animal Collective

12:15 AM, in the parking lot behind the 7-11

be there you son of a prostitute

>this post was supposed to be funny

Devo

Death Grips

Foals

...

Death From Above 1979

Wolfmother
Moby Grape I guess.

That's who I had in mind

the physical world had some great songs

first album's really good though

Any either weird phenomenon is caring only about the middle of the career.
I feel in general people only care about Hissing Fauna and Skeletal Lamping, anything earlier doesn't exist and afterwards is regarded as shitty by critics and normies alike.

Agreed. Tyranny was actually incredibly underrated and was better than anything the strokes had done in years. I still had hope for The Strokes as a group because Angles and CM had good moments but I've lost all faith after the FPP EP
Opeth? No way. Their first couple albums aren't really that impressive. It's just like really long metal. They hit a good streak where they released some truly great albums which was like Damnation deliverance and blackwater park. Watershed was pretty good.

Congratulations was better than OS by a little bit. It was musically more mature and experimental then the debut. It was a total change in direction but was definitely an improvement

This is honestly true for way too many bands. Way too many people are obsessed with novelty and will dismiss a band or (especially) solo artist simply because they've put out more than 3 albums. Conversely, if an unproven group puts out something pretty good, it'll get way more praise than if some well established group puts out the same quality work.

Except chairs missing is better.... Other than that though, yeah
