You tell me.

The best decade you mean

I don't understand how the 80s became the bad "meme" decade when the 70s exist.

How's the 70s worse?

reagan, cocaine & crack

It wasn't. You just have shit taste

yep. it had amazing noise rock, alternative, new wave bands.

???

The Cure
The Smiths
My Bloody Valentine
Joy Division
Daniel Johnston
Spacemen 3

80s was the decade when rock basically lost most of its blues origins. I think a lot of the problem people have with that period is how music in general got colder, slicker, and more inorganic-feeling.

Pixies
Sonic Youth
Dinosaur Jr
Jesus and Mary Chain
Julian Cope
The Feelies
Echo & the Bunnymen
Galaxie 500
Mission of Burma
They Might Be Giants
Yo La Tengo

This plus:

Eno and Byrne with My Life In the Bush of Ghosts and Remain In Light

Black Flag and the rest of good punk/hardcore scene were in their peak

Beastie Boys, NWA and others revolutionized rap

REM was all over college radio in US; many other bands like The Replacements and Husker Du were helping alt-rock gain its momentum

Normie music was arguably at its finest, with Prince, MJ, G'N'R, Phil Collins, AC/DC, Duran Duran, U2, Roxette making some of their best albums

Overseas on the misty island of rotten teeth, postpunk was at its finest with Gang of Four, The Fall, XTC, PiL, This Heat, and literally shit tons of other great acts

…And then people like come and say "hurr durr look at the 80s it was all fags in spandex lol"

post punk
no wave
dream pop
twee pop
jangle pop
noise pop
noise rock
hardcore
post hardcore
shoegaze
industrial
synthpop
minimal wave/synth
house
disco
boogie
italo disco
electro
hip hop
new age

Also during the 80s, teenager culture really kind of reasserted itself after having been inert for much of the 70s.

That chipmunk voice all the chick singers had back then. Do not want.

>implying glam rock was bad
Come on, a lot of those songs were fun as fuck.

Fun ≠ Good

essence of Sup Forums captured in one exchange

Hey, Ratt had two/three good songs

>not the '10's
This is literally the shittest decade for music

all shit

t. autechre fan

We have so much cool internet computer music though.

Music in the 80s also got more and at the same time less political. On one hand, the 60s notion of strumming an acoustic guitar and singing protest songs...out the window and deprecated. On the other hand, with a few exceptions like John Anderson, Johnny Ramone, Duran Duran, and (strangely enough) Neil Young, most of rock jumped on the Reagan/Thatcher libtard butthurt bandwagon.

>implying Tay Tay hasn't been one of the biggest things to happen in years

>Why was the 80s such a godawful decade of music?
Posts Ratt who were awesome.

How was the 80s bad? It was a great decade for electronic and rock music, especially if you're into strange or harsher subgenres of both.

Exactly how has she revolutionized musi...oh wait, she's just another manufactured Top 40 hit machine with no talent.

This. Hairspray aside, they had some moments of pop rock perfection.

Round and Round was a total ripoff of Panama though

Well i mean we did get some cool sounds i guess, but nothing new really.

Exactly, the fact that Taylor is one of the biggest names right now is a worry

There has always been shit popular music. Why is that a worry?

>ear-raping noises or guys screaming over distorted guitars
>good

I hate to say it but creativity in popular music is really going down, and taylor is popular even though she didn't innovate anything or write her own music

that's why i love the 80s, blues sucks

>not lovimg that adaeda progression in every song
Lol this guy

Song writers have been in control for ages. I think because of the increased transparency and lack of privacy due to social media, celebrities have had to become more packaged as to sell their product. The reason for the lack of creativity is because the public are fickle and will drop you as soon as you make a wrong step

How are those two things even related? lol

>b-but muh sonic youth

I think the lack of creativity is due to people eating up the same songs just repacked. I can barely listen to a 4 chord or 12 bar song without getting bored shitless.

But yeah the industry is in a terrible state like you say and a lot of people aren't supportimg the local scene

For real. This board is awful even by Sup Forums standards

Whats wrong with sonic youth?

Whoop-de-do. The Osmonds and the Carpenters ruled AM in the 70s as well.

>B-but muh exceptions that prove the rule
>B-but muh 1980 and 1989

It's complicated...
