Ty I'm not insecure at all I listen to music that people call bad because I enjoy it, unironically because fuck that pretentious bullshit
Angel Hill
Also, the majority of this board is insecure in themselves so they listen to obscure bullshit and have to ask "how do I get into this?" bc they don't actually like any of it If you don't see it then you're blind and part of the problem
Benjamin Mitchell
I meant the insecurity joke towards myself as in you said I have shit music therefore my music insecurity intensified
Colton Harris
Ohh shit sorry man! I've been on this site for too long, everything seems like a condescension now... But seriously, go listen to some of the shit this board hates
Lincoln Wilson

I don't know about that. When I approach new music, I'm hoping more to understand it than enjoy it (liking it would be nice too of course). I know what you mean about Normies trying too hard to "get" things they perceive as cool, but I would ask someone the same question looking for context on why said music is popular, why an individual enjoys it, etc.
Ethan Perry
Listening to music to understand it is still pretentious tho, as an art it exists for enjoyment through listening and the atmosphere it provides. If you don't listen to music to enjoy the music then you're doing it wrong
Chase Baker
Trying to find a universally shared understanding of any art is a very "gatekeeper" thing to do and it limits the evolution of art form Separation from normies is part of the problem, you build an isolationist approach which is negative

Just want to clarify that I'm not one of those normies but I absolutely understand why you would think that, obliviously there is no way to prove that cause you don't know me personally but I do genuinely like these bands simply because they are good and interesting and not because other frontmen of other bands said that they like them, I'm not one of those people that show off there superior music taste without knowing very much about them or being in denial about actually even liking them

Their first 2 albums are mostly jazz renditions of famous rap and hip-hop songs, they've kind of trailed off to more traditional jazz with their third album. I'd stay start with their cover of Flashing Lights by Kanye west. If you like the sound of that, I'd highly recommend BBNG II

Jaxon Howard
All art isn't made to be enjoyed. That's a really consumerist way to look at things. Alot of artists, individually and collectively, create to translate information through their art. Dadaism and impressionism being two movements where enjoyment is a byproduct of understanding it.
A better word than Normies would have been consumers, in other words ppl that don't care for the history of art or the ideas translated through it and just use it as a social tool for dancing or fucking or whatever. But I didnt mean to imply that's "wrong". Others don't have to be music spergs like me, that's fine, I'm just saying because I have a deeper interest in music (mainly in its history), I don't listen to things with the express purpose "enjoying it". oR maybe I enjoy more music differently. Idk I fee like you get what I mean either way.
I'm under the impression that people aren't naturally very picky about most things, music included. The historical and social context of music makes certain music more interesting/relatable, which I think is how taste is generally derived, rather than "these guys are more talented because *insert arbitrary technique*"

Interesting what you say about consumers not caring about the art or history. I almost always only listen to a band if the songwritng and artistic vision is very good, I couldn't listen to acdc or van halen because they don't care for depth or artistry therefore it's pretty meaningless. As you could imagine this make me look very prentous in front of my friends when I trash there EDM music taste

For fuck sake, I switched to Spotify so that I wouldn't have to manage music track by track like that steaming turd iTunes made me do.
I love Spotify but that's bullshit to me. What other services have better offline limits, or is there a way to bypass this with Spotify?

I love their first two albums, I can't really get into their stuff after that except maybe a small hand full of songs like 'The Masterplan' and Stop 'Crying Your Heart Out'.Other than that their first two albums are filled with great hitters.

From what I've read it's 3333 and I feel like that's about the number I'm at. I've signed up for the free trial of Apple Music to try it since I hit Spotify's limit and the app keeps crashing on my phone, but the interface for Apple is beyond shite.
