jealous. literally lost all my weed the other day, it was around an eighth :(

I was starting to feel good about my music again but someone just said in a vocaroo thread it sounds very "guitar pro"

I've been making tons of tracks in FL recently and it still sounds so corny and dated

on top of that, a teacher i showed a track to said it made "good background music" when my dream is redifining an engaging musical experience

Im not discouraged, just upset that im going to shut myself off from everyone to get better for awhile, time just keeps passing....

How did you lose it?

Making stuff sound good in a DAW is fucking tough man, been there.

Listening to the demos from Mac DeMarco's Another One. Only decent purchase this record store day. Drinking a Steamworks Imperial Red. Anyone else familiar with west coast beer?

>Making stuff sound good in a DAW is fucking tough man, been there.
So how'd you get out of it?

My ideal would be, like brian, having an entire orchestra at my disposal because i can hear all of the arrangments and the structure of the song in my head so i could explain exactly what i want

I'm going to my friends house tomorrow to record some stuff with his upright piano so hopefully that will turn out well

kinda wanna watch something on netflix or something, but don't know what

Have you read it before? It's in my top 3 books.

I mostly just made sample-based stuff and just fiddled around with the digital instruments occasionally, so I never actually got around to making the instruments sound good :/

Even the sample-based stuff is tough though, as doing a lot of manipulations to the audio will make it sound like shit real fast depending on how it's sourced. I'd really like to get an old MPC at some point but I need money first.

Good luck with that recording sesh, sounds like fun.

I went headphone shopping after doing zero research a few years ago and left with a pair of Sennheiser's. Since then I've discovered that they're actually considered decent headphones. Glad to know my ears work gud

I consider birds a quite comfy song, wouldn't really listen to Bottomless Pit sitting down though.

Which Sennheiser's? I'm wearing my 558's right now.

>Good luck with that recording sesh, sounds like fun.
Thank you! I actually have a blues song written with some lyrics that match this childrens book im writing about a candy store owner but it has some dark undertones in it about loss and grief

would you like to read an excerpt?

Half the stuff I get excited about makes people yawn. I've gotten obsessed with a track off the new Swans record, and not even my roommate, who's into all sorts of great music, cared about it the way I did. Don't worry man. You'll find your audience.

this

user who mentioned Swans. Do you drink? If you don't, probably don't start. But if you do, when you're feeling bummed out about your artistic output, get shitfaced and record a demo or write some lyrics. Tomorrow when you check it, it will be mostly garbage, but there will probably be an idea in there somewhere that your more capable sober mind can expand on.

well there's no link, i dont have THAT much yet, the idea just came to me a while ago and im waiting for the idea to get stronger

[C7] I've been waitin

[C7] I've been thinkin

[G7] of that candy
[F7] Bar

[C7] Twice we've wasted
[F7] For the hero we fool
[C7] Thriving cities
[DbMin] Of splendor and rule

the chord change to Dbmin at the end is a way to transition into this spoken word segment where'd id be telling about the time the candy store owner does a science experiement to make the worlds best candy, and it goes all wrong

ok, good night! I love you.

Lol ive never even listened to jack white ! what does he sing about?

>its gonna be piano-based blues?
Not really, its going to start out with blues melodic structures, with upbeat boogie woogie tempos, along with an arsenal of pop melodies i have written, dice it in with some excerpts from the great american song book (rhapsody in blue being a big one), and its all going to be starting off very cheerful and hopeful

But its going to turn dark, im going to essentially turn it into a shoegaze album but with a legion of piano feedback and layering, along with subtle effects packed into it, along with natural reverb devies and noise recordings, to give it this mystical vibe

still in the planning stages tho

Nice, I'm thinking about getting a pair of those in the over-ear models because I need a new pair of on-the-go headphones.

Nice, that sounds really cool. And Jack White, particularly on early White Stripes stuff, wrote very whimsical garage/blues rock songs that tied into childhood themes. The White Blood Cells album might be up your alley if you've never heard it before.

What class?

I would have loved to use it in one of my literary theory classes.

mein negro

Once you get a pair of over-ear headphones, you'll never go back.

It's a curse, really. They're all so fucking expensive.

youtube.com/watch?v=L1iQEZsDOwU

Yeah I know, I have the HD558's now and love them. They're open-backed though, so not exactly portable. I have an ancient pair of Bose over-ears that I've used for going out in public with headphones but those are in dire need of replacement.

Steel Reserve is garbage but I regularly drink it. And it fits the Black Lips

Gotcha. I'm probably too barbaric to tell the difference in sound, but honestly the only thing Bose has on Sennheisser in my experience is their noise-cancellation headphones. Like I said, someone who isn't a barbarian could probably elaborate on the sound quality.

What would you say the chances are of that being marketable

if they had cute voices
