Alright Sup Forums, I'm a classical musician who's pretty much only listened to classical music his entire life. It didn't happen intentionally, I just kinda already had classical music for every situation, and there's so much of it to go through, etc etc.

so what is the question?

So?
That being said, it's prooobably time to join the 21st century. Any of you kind souls want to recommend something a classical-minded guy might like?
(sry for the double post, I'm a bad fleshy meat sack and all that)
How old are you?
22
Are you sure you're not 17?
...
my only advice is dont go into modern music with the pretentious classical-is-the-one-true-god attitude
be a cool guy who likes modern stuff as well as classical
will get back to you on that one...?
cool trick tho, associating an exact age with every music problem. that's real impressive
Listen to modern equivalent of classical, technical death metal
Well it would seem plausible that a 22 year old musician has heard some modern music by now, wouldn't it?
Thanks bromeo, will check this out asap
that's what I'm tryna do. I don't think of myself is being pretentious.
Maybe I'm, like... stealth pretentious? That would suck.
Check out Gridlink and Discordance Axis, my man
I will admit I haven't been getting a lot of contemporary music exposure. You are not wrong there ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Why not?
Classical can be metal as fuck too. Beethoven, vivaldi, wagner, all share so many parallels with thrash and melodic
I recommend just finding the essentials charts on the mu wiki of whatever genre interests you and branching from there. Dont ask us "goiz whats the best new musicks?"
a warning
my heroes, will check this out
Ya man. You listened to Shastakovich or Prokofiev? Buncha real angry Russians.
But we're having so much fun together
wh-wha--?

I don't like this album as much but any classical fan should listen to Gorguts - Obscura
Really?
Why is every metal cover cringe inducing

If you like Stravinsky, you should check out Zappa. Though, Zappa is an amalgamation of influences, but his modernist influences are very apparent in his serious work.
There's not much in popular music that assimilates the form of classical music. If you can stand the lack of development in exchange for musical ideas, then you'll be fine.
Zappa, King Crimson and Mahavishnu Orchestra are groups that can be similar to classical at times. Zappa is my favorite of those three, and he is a love or hate artist but I think he's worth mentioning. Here is some instrumental stuff by him:

Grimes. Not kidding.

She composes music with the same kind of dogmatic focus on aesthetics and structure that marks the greatest "classical" composers of old (Beethoven comes to mind), but uses current technology and the soundscapes of contemporary "pop" music to give it voice. It's a real head-trip to listen to if you're a classical musician yourself.
I admire how accidentaly cultured you are. Bother to tell more about yourself ?
>DOUCHEBAG
That's pretty clever honestly
if you can't into abject aesthetics to the degree of falling back only on the saccharinity of your pic without having first dialectically synthesized the former with the latter in a post-ironic amalgamation then it's no wonder you don't understand metal (covers)
man i dialectically synthesize shit all the time man don't underestimate my power
Heavy metal with prog influences
sorry man this sounded really bad. had nothing what you described
Did you listen to all 37.5 minutes?

probably just start here
Your overall opinion of sound quality is immaterial at this stage since you self-admittedly have no knowledge of the sounds of contemporary music.
And this isn't about the sounds themselves anyway - it's the way those sounds are arranged and then left to interact with each other as part of the whole that most strongly calls to mind the classical connection. In terms of pure sonics, the easiest place to pick up on it would be the album Halfaxa. youtube.com
classical music means you are higher evolved also you know such things such as scales and notes, octaves and frequency, beats are hypnotic and a powerfull mind controll tool most if not all music uses the 440 not verdi or bach and mozarts c256 these affect brain waves delta theta, also judas priest trial was real sublimials are reall also fucking srv is the shit

Forget 21st century music.
Get into other classical schools around the world.
Gamelan and Carnatic for starters.
Minimalism will change your life breh
I like that you're trying to expand your tastes, I really Dont like a lot of classical fans for this reason. I'm not sure if you wi like them and I'm sure other peoples suggestions are more suitable but check out Radiohead, listen to the bends and continue on from their. Here's a few sample songs

Everybody who has made a recommendation is my hero, I'm slowly moving through them :)
>wanna explain how this even happened?
Sure. My entire family has been 100% musicians, composers, or music teachers/professors for three dimensions now.
Except meeeee, I just wanna make dank memes. And build robots
Fun fact, my mom actually tried to ban all music 20th century onwards from the house at one point. Even, like, Gershwin.
