"Because it sucks and I'm tired of hearing about it. Believe me I've tried. I just hate the parts I hate about it more than I like the little things there are to like. The batting average is just so low I can't bear the dead time between highlights being filled with all that noodling. It's vain music."
jazz is the most self indulgent genre next to highly technical metal. i'ts trash for tryhards
William Bennett
Pretty much. For the most part, jazz is either cluttered wank or bland songwriting. It started out as pop music, then became music for music critics. Now it's a dead meme genre.

He did mean he's a garbage musician who likes to be edgy instead of delivering quality music. A hack. how does it feel to not understand a whole genre? >cluttered wank you probably don't play an instrument and you also thinks shoegaze is good >bland songwriting Objectively wrong youtube.com/watch?v=iB2Z2DY17yQ >Now it's a dead meme genre. Jazz recent outputs have been more meaningful and innovative than rock releases since the 90s
Ian Ross
it's nice to put on in the background
i can't imagine actually getting into it though
Zachary Carter
You don't know what rockism is.
Zachary Ortiz
holy shit Sup Forums has gotten pleb-tier in my absence
Kayden Green
>implying Sup Forums was not always pleb-tier
Evan Cooper
No idea who you are but welcome back lad
Jace Cooper
>Because it sucks and I'm tired of hearing about it
He's just a petulant real life shitposter.
Stop niggering around Albini and learn how to actually produce.
Elijah Harris
Finishing a college degree now If I fucking do some production school shit and move to Chicago and approach Albini super directly and bluntly (like his music) and ask for an internship what are the odds he'll throw me a bone
Jordan Taylor
Shoegaze is terrible, as is most rock music. >Herbie Hackcock
Angel Garcia
It's Sup Forumsto!
Nolan Reyes
What exactly does Albini like? He's openly shat on jazz, electronic music, punk, metal, shoegaze, the Pixies for being "not *that* good", and presumably hip-hop though I can't say for sure.
Nathaniel White
I also want to know what Albini actually likes... He probably likes a lot of stuff and just recognizes the parts about it he doesn't like.
On another note, a lot of Jazz is trash, but it has the capacity to be so expressive and beautiful. It's a really mixed bag genre.
Evan Martin
KER-O-SENE
Kayden Foster
what are five jazz albums that you would describe as "trash"?
Brayden Garcia
That's true but this is a whole new level...shitting on jazz? Really?
Thanks friend! I used to post a lot but have been quite busy with real life pursuits.
Isaac Bailey
i'm not gonna go find 5 god damn obscure piece of shit horn players to fill your quota
Sebastian Gonzalez
You're five favorite jazz albums
Ryan Bell
he is basically a pure hedonist
the boring parts are what makes the good parts good
it would be like skipping through porn watching for only the best positions
David Wright
and yet you feel confident making the statement "a lot of jazz is trash"
Liam Young
>it would be like skipping through porn watching for only the best positions doesn't everybody do this though?
Tyler Baker
idk he said spiderland was a 10/10, but i feel like i could easily see him call that self indulgent trash as well
albini is annoying as fuck
Zachary Powell
Steve albini = Jim steinman
Logan Nelson
>everyone in this thread WEW
Luis Rogers
You seem cool. What have these real life pursuits involved may I ask?
Christopher Martinez
Mostly research. I started undergrad and have been working on CS research, I'd like to pursue it in graduate school.
I browse whenever some new album comes out just to see what Sup Forums thinks about it.
Angel Jackson
he writes some of the most direct, immediate, non-virtuosic music I can think of, so it makes sense that he wouldn't like jazz
Jackson Rogers
it sucks
Owen Howard
:) always
Benjamin Hill
jazz is just blues with all the feeling sapped out of it.
>"I'm 16, listen to radiohead, and think I know everything about music" - the post
Brandon Evans
it means jazz is played for the musicians themselves much like technical metal, i.e. self indulgent
Angel Davis
jazz and blues are completely different genres with not even similar cultural contexts
Juan Fisher
This is partially true these days, but it's such a big genre that different styles are very divergent in this respect (all the community swing bands are done entirely for the audience where lots of free jazz is very self-indulgent)
Camden Ramirez
>jazz is played for the musicians themselves
what, in oppose to, playing to make money? that kind of music is shitty user. If you don't play music because you enjoy it and to explore your own creative abilities and ideas then you shouldn't be playing at all.
Parker Harris
I literally am not listening to any of these. Cry more, dootfags.
Dominic Fisher
>people with this amount of musical knowledge share the same board as you
it's a shame
Julian Gray
>thinking jazz is background/easy listening music I bet you like Kenny G

Clearly have never listened to Coltrane

Charles Foster
yeah i wish everyone pounded the same 3 chords on a distorted guitar too
Jacob Reed
>technical theory aspects are the only important pieces of songwriting
Lincoln Walker
>because jazz originated with the blues it means that jazz is blues with the emotion taken out of it
you clearly have so little knowledge of jazz you shouldn't even be posting. there are so many different subgenres of jazz that you're going to have to be a bit more specific. do you mean bebop? modal jazz? free jazz? swing? cool jazz? post bop? all of these different genres had different origins and different musical vocabulary, and none have inherently less "emotion" than the others
Grayson Campbell
any kind of music that is impressive because of how its made is not necessarily good music. it is just something you enjoy analyzing for personal reasons. you can enjoy something because you appreciate the hard work but effort is not inherently related to the quality of the final product
however i think jazz music is good d:)
Brody Jenkins
>the boring parts are what makes the good parts good
This is so wrong it's almost Satanic. A piece of music has to be good from the first second to the last.
