>faust
>popol vih
>nico
>royal trux
>john fahey
>BEEFHEART

Don't see what's so contrarian about Fahey

Thats a great list and probably better than yours.

By the way, whats your list of best albums of all time, OP?

Beefheart is pretty universally recognized as one of the greatest album. If anything it's pretty conformist of him to make them the best.

>More Fucking Noise Rock by Noise Rock Band #230
>greatest of all time

1. Pet Sounds
2. VU&N
3. Sgt. Pepper

5. The Black Saint & The Sinner Lady

That list isn't even that bad.

Scaruffi has much worse opinions

THE

absolute garbage opinion mate

>dislikes the doors

the fuck?

Well make your own list if mine's so bad

FACT

did you ever listen to twin infinitives?
sure it's noisy as fuck but it's p far from your usual noise rock, and if parts of it are noise rock, still a lot of it is not.
it's like the dead c was collabing with some twee bluesband and their shit was falling apart or something
if you're going by the rym tags then whatever

>likes the Doors
Why do you like them? I always found the Doors boring and unlistenably pretentious and macho.

Oh shit didn't notice that it was twin infinitives
Thought he ranked their s/t
I'll have to listen to twin infinitives sometime

yeah you should, i find it pretty trash but it's an unique thing

THAT

>macho
...Why is that a problem for you?

It's not bad, but it just gets kind of grating that Morrison's persona feels kind of annoyingly assholish and forced.

Breakdown of why I think this
>Ramones
In my opinion, Ramones is one of the greatest achievements in the history of pop and rock music. Everybody knows the story that the Ramones killed the excesses of prog rock with their fast, edgy rock and roll, but the reality and subtlety of their music is more complex than that.
The Ramones on their debut are the Ramones in their purest form. They strip away all the musical and lyrical excess of modern rock, leaving it naked. They're stupid, but ironically so. It's a great artistic achievement because it is the ultimate exercise in deconstruction. Feelings aren't expressed, they're shouted and beaten into your head. There's no musical variety. "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" is almost embarrassingly straightforward and honest. So Ramones is truly the only rock and roll album you *need* to hear, because everything common to all rock is here. It simultaneously celebrates and satirizes rock in the most pleasurable and purely fun way it can.

shitaste

Now this is contrarian

When will you start listening to music for your own enjoyment and to broaden your horizons and not just to impress some strangers on the internet?

poseur

the only contratian thing there is royal trux
you could make a case for popol vuh and nico as half-contrarian

>neu instead of faust

is this a new pasta?

Why is Royal Trux contrarian?

because it's been given no light by any other review and is only talked about in avant-teen circles

now compare that to TMR, which, while looks contrarian, has received countless words of praise by contemporary critics

im not saying royal trux is a good or a bad band, but saying it is in the top 10 albums is definitely contrarian

fptmiu

>Ramones
>Elvis
>Sex Pistols

Contrarian's more picking something people actively malign, or dissing something everyone loves for the sake of it. It's about consciously choosing to go against the grain. Saying the Beatles weren't innovative is Scaruffi being Contrarian, but picking an fairly unknown album isn't contrarian. It's a total hipster move, but not contrarian, because nobody was talking about it in the first place.

And Twin Infinitives is amazing.

>but picking an fairly unknown album isn't contrarian. It's a total hipster move, but not contrarian, because nobody was talking about it in the first place.
if we are talking about a music reviewer, it kinda is

and it's not like the album got 0 attention, other music critics have obviously listened to it and mainly thought it was "just decent"

id say putting an album like that in your top 10 is contrarian, though of course not nearly as contrarian as his beatles hate

WOAH YOU GO TO RYM TO??????!!!!!

scaruffi doesn't even hate the beatles though, he just thinks they are overrated. if you read the article on his site about them you would understand.

>needing attention this badly

>TMR
9/10
>Rock Bottom
10/10 Legitimately incredible
>Faust
7/10 kind of interesting
>VU/N
8/10 great especially for 1967
>The Doors
6/10 has two memorable songs on it
>Hosianna Mantra
8/10 great
>Modern Dance
5/10 kind of sucks tbfh senpai
>Twin Infinitives
10/10 one of the most dismal and dreary recordings ever
>Fare Forward Voyagers
9/10 really, really good
>Desert Shore
5/10 boring af lol.

Yeah, seriously. 6s and 7s aren't even bad and he gives two 7s to the Beatles

no i understand that very well, i agree with you wholeheartedly

ive read his whole review on the beatles a couple of times and he really doesn't hate the beatles
considering the beatles got two 7s that's seriously pretty good

>if we are talking about a music reviewer, it kinda is
That doesn't change anything. It would be contrarian if most people hated Royal Trux, like it's contrarian to hate the Beatles because everyone loves them. This is just picking an unknown album.

The essence of contrarianism is deliberately choosing the exact opposite of whatever the popular opinion is, and picking an unknown album isn't the opposite of popular opinion.
