who gives a shit viper and buckethead do that shit every month

Because guitar is a meme instrument that anyone can play

his solo stuff isn't very good though, most of it's just random noodling

love the mars volta though

Some of those albums mentioned above have the original TMV lineup. And John Fusciante also plays in some of them.

james ferraro has more albums on ONE( out of 20~ )aliases and he isn't trained either but made the most amazing and defining music of 00s/10s.

I THINK I'VE BECOMMME

OOOONNNE OF THE OOOOTHEEERRRR

OOOOH, OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH, OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH

I literally don't care until he releases the other two El Grupo Nuevo/Cryptomnesia records

only buckethead's albums are real though

viper keeps releasing the same exact tracks from 10 years ago, with different song titles/album covers

Sworn Virgins was good.

Can you let me know which ones have the original lineup? I would really love to check those out

what musician does have "formal music education"?

Classic

So considering that ORL is now on Ipecac, what ate the odds we'll find some kind of Mike Patton collaboration in the future? I for one would absolutely love to see what the two could make happen.

You just need to be creative. Who gives a fuck about theory

Omar is clearly in the Zappa archetype, so I'd say it's pretty obvious certain people are good at autodidacticism.

This photo gets me wet

Who is the hippy guy and who is the guy between Omar and Patton? And what building is that? Is that a CATerpillar clothing store on the right?

The bearded gentleman is Tim Moss from Porn.

That fortunate guy in the background is some lucky dude I dunno

Aranas en La Sombra, it's the only one with that line up I think.

Sweet I'll be sure to check that out when it comes out. I'll try not to get my hopes up too much though, since imo cedric has really been lacking in the past few years

mr beardo and the proge avanteens

>since imo cedric has really been lacking in the past few years
He was always a mediocre singer, lyricist and an awful musician. He is a terrific performer, I guess.

Used to be a huge TMV fan, like huge, but they started losing me right around Amputechture.

The only two albums I listen to anymore are De-Loused and Frances.

His solo stuff is meh. And his new band with Cedric, Antemasque, is fucking AWFUL.

Not sure about the new ones, but check out Old Money, Xenophanes, Se Dice Bisonte, No Búfalo, and Cryptomnesia.

>mediocre lyricist
Nigger I'll shank you.

>The only two albums I listen to anymore are De-Loused and Frances.
Pretty much the same here, plus Bedlam.

I'll say Antemasque isn't really what I wanted out of a Omar Cedric band but I can see the appeal. Omar's solo stuff is definitely much more appealing to me than Antemasque at the moment. Sworn Virigins is a lot more of a direction I would have been okay with Antemasque going than what it ended up as.

Not him but...

Hmm, well I would say Cedric is more of a genius phoneticist than lyricist. He admits his lyrics are generally word salad but he has a strong grasp of aesthetic phonetic qualities of words and how to use them nicely.

Because 'formal' music education is a meme that Sup Forums tricked you into believing.

>he didn't get the secret meaning behind TMV lyrics
I almost pity you.

No I understand the stories of the albums, but I also know the lyrical composition process that Cedric used for the best. He'd set up a wall of TVs all with different things on them, blast the music in his ears and record him singing stream of consciousness based on what he saw. The lyrics came first, then the meaning behind them was created like patchwork and certain lines altered or edited.

Again, not saying he's not a genius, it's just that he isn't as much of a lyricist as a savant-tier phoneticist and vocalist

the truth is he works very hard

Sworn Virgins is ok but it's starting to sound too much like Jack White's bullshit.

Oh god dammit now I'm starting to hear that.
Well maybe that aspect won't be what we get on the 11 other records this year. I'm hoping for a unique sound for each album

yeah I think he's making an effort though to make his stuff more marketable, not to say the music isn't good or that he's not sincere about it.

they're all recorded at various times between 2002/3 and 2013, so it's safe to say that they should all be really different.

That's probably a fair assessment.
Though having a relationship with Ipecac now means he should have a lot more encouragement to be explorative.

Cedric is a poser, and an idiot. He just uses obscure words at random. He even mispronounces words in Spanish. Hes best language is English, because of his broken Spanish.

he recorded all that bullshit before 2013, and its all going to be pretty average to bad. Sworn Virgins was okay, i'm hoping for something more like manual dexterity.
