Hank Williams

I think a lot of guys get into country via Gram and the Flying Burrito Bros. Though it's not bonafide country per se.

In general, people seem more open to the "real roots shit," old guys like Hank Sr, and rougher stuff like the Bakersfield sound.

Justin Townes Earl

Wheeler Walker Jr.
Sturgill Simpson

Townes Van Zandt

that's because nashville sound fucking sucks

this

Also Blaze Foley is pretty good

J. Aldean
A true auteur

Kris Kristofferson

Jason Isbell

I wouldn't consider them traditional country but Silver Jews are p kickass (Malkmus and Nastanovich from Pavement was a part of the group during their early period)

Freddy Fender

Johnson Alder

Say what you want, but Dolly Parton is an American treasure.

Sup Forums's approval is meaningless

funny way to spell Patsy Cline.

Warren Zevon
Isn't all folk, but when it is, it's good folk

This

Dolly is horrible. Tammy Wynette and Patsy Cline are way better.

>Implying country is the same as folk

Eric Von Schmidt

And some of Sackville's stuff is good, though they aren't strictly country

>tfw like a totally different type of country than Sup Forums likes

I'm deep into the hardcore stuff with almost zero rock/pop appeal.

ryan adams, especially his "heartbreaker" album, surpised Sup Forums doesnt acknowledge him at all

I don't know what Sup Forums thinks of Jason Molina or his bands (and he definitely overlaps into folk), but check out his albums:

Songs: Ohia - The Magnolia Electric Co.
Songs: Ohia - Didn't It Rain
Songs: Ohia - The Lioness
Songs: Ohia - Ghost Tropic
Jason Molina - Pyramid Electric Co.
Magnolia Electric Co. - Trials & Errors
Magnolia Electric Co. - What Comes After the Blues
Magnolia Electric Co. - Josephine
Magnolia Electric Co. - Black Ram

There's a lot on that list, and he has plenty more, but every one of those is a different flavour of his music. Really liked to experiment. You're bound to like some of it.

his blatant attempt to get taylor swift to notice him when she was briefly single last year killed whatever cred he had here.

Same guy here. If you want something more out-there, check out Man's Gin's second album (haven't heard the first). It's country music made by black metallers.

>ctrl f: willie nelson

>nobody's mentioned Jason Aldean

Definitely not Sup Forumscore, but I think Zach Brown is undoubtedly the best of radio country.

willie nelson is fucking garbage neck yourself you retard

...

I really dig Elephant. Been meaning to give the rest of that album a listen. I second at least that song though, and have no reason to doubt the rest of his stuff is bad.

Wasn't he in Drive-By Truckers? Even if not, that reminds me: Brighter Than Creation's Dark is GOAT-tier modern country.

One more off BTCD for good measure.

This. You're slacking, Sup Forums.

He was in DBT, but I think he left before Brighter Than Creation's Dark.

holy shit, someone besides me knows about him

Mojave 3

I think this has some pretty good stuff on it.

folk is a pretty catch-all term
country is folk specific to parts of the US

Oh not this shit again from the other thread

There's folk, and there's traditional folk.
