Are you guys fucking serious with this shit? After seeing you guys go on and on about this for months, I finally caved and listened to it. Genesis and Oblivion were nice songs, even if the rest of Visions was filler. But everybody insisted this was a solid step up.
This shit sounds like Madonna. On this she just went straight pop, with some quirky sound effects slapped on to stay in some way "indie". What a fucking waste of time. How are you fuckers this enthusiastic about something so unexceptional?
the worst part is people really think she's something special
Carter Ross

there is literally nothing wrong with straight pop.

>This shit sounds like Madonna. On this she just went straight pop, with some quirky sound effects slapped on to stay in some way "indie". What a fucking waste of time. How are you fuckers this enthusiastic about something so unexceptional? Except it doesn't. Serious question: did you actually listen to Madonna? You should know that Madonna sounds nothing like Grimes.
Art Angels is genuinely an amazing pop album. Far more diverse and innovative than anything in the current pop scene. You were fooled to think it's just a pop album because of the beats and vocals, but listen closely and you'll see this is properly GREAT MUSIC.
Listen to this again in a month. Maybe you'll get it.

Solid trolling. Almost got me to genuinely respond.

That's unfair to Madonna. Her songs are way more memorable and unique than Grimes.
Wyatt Foster
It's pure shit, actually. You may need a few years to mature and realize that.
Dylan Allen
Dude you're a stupid fuck and have shit taste. I fucking hope you die.
Grayson Roberts
That's bullshit. Madonna sounds like any mainstream popstar, nothing special. Grimes is actually unique, no one sounds like her. I'm not even saying about the fact that Madonna is just an entertainer while Grimes is a complete artist:

Madonna has made some good albums.

It sounds nothing like Madonna and you definitely wouldn't be able to explain how.
Oliver Collins
What's not to like about it? You don't like catchy music? (I see that you posted a The Beatles cover.)
Xavier Robinson
You mean her producers and songwriters. Yes Madonna has some good albums, but not some great albums like Grimes.
David Richardson
Exactly.
OP, you should explain why do you think AA sounds like Madonna. If you can't, I will consider your entire post just shitposting.
Luke King
This. Genuinely curious.
The explanation had better be practically mechanical in its depth and specificity.
Blake Baker
this is horrible to listen to with headphones t b h

I'm waiting and hoping the OP isn't a hit and run coward troll.
Justin Evans
He better explain what his brain is doing right down to the rate limiting enzymes of neurotransmitter synthesis. He better get the fuck in here and tell me THE PATTERN HIS PYRAMIDAL CELLS ARE FIRING AND WHAT THIS MEANS WITHIN THE SYSTEM AS A WHOLE.
But alas, he's likely just a hit and run shiteater.
Christian Price
You delusional and I have the numbers to prove it. Who do you honestly think history will remember? The highest selling female artist in history..or grimes. Just because you don't like the albums doesn't mean they were not great. Ray of Light was exceptional
Joseph Reed
>Ray of Light was exceptional That's an exception. It was more like a William Orbit album (I like his productions).
Yes, history will remember her as the greatest selling female artist, but not as the best. The history will remember her as big slag and controversial figure, fairly talented and with an average voice.
Big numbers =/= the artist is better. Bieber sold much more than The Velvet Underground or Roxy Music.
Eli Bell
As a Slag?. Madonna pushed the boundaries with nearly every song and video she released. You could say she was unique artist doing things no one else was doing and doing them first. Kinda liken to how you say grimes is unique and doing things no one else is doing. And unless someone outsells her in the world of "Pop"which you are saying grimes is in now in or trying to enter. She will be viewed as the "Best" because all "Pop" cares about is "numbers" where higher numbers always win.
Charles Gomez
Grimes is not pure pop. She will never compete with the likes of Madonna. She's an alternative pop artist like Kate Bush or Bjork. Comparing her with Madonna is like apples and oranges.
Anthony Foster
Art Angels is one of the most colossal musical tragedies of the year. Never before has a musician fallen so rapidly in terms of quality. Grimes has gone from crafting majestic, hypnotizing synth-pop songs to radio filler, Spotify ad music levels of awfulness. Maybe it’s Claire Boucher’s timeless fascination with pop acts like Mariah Carey that has led her to such a career choice, enveloping a plastic, confined sound of audible depression. Yet her unfortunate new embrace of mainstream electropop feels like a complete insult to her previous sound: lo-fi, home-recorded cassette and CD-R releases such as the wonderful Geidi Primes and its followup, Halfaxa, showed plenty of promise with beautifully-woven samples and whimsical synthesizer spectacles. For the most part, Boucher handled her turn to a much clearer sound two years later with Visions exceptionally well, as the album’s hit centerpiece, “Oblivion,” ended up being one of the best songs of that year and Grimes’ defining, masterpiece of a track. With Art Angels, her once-welcomed upgrade of musical production values feels forced, tacky, and far too circumscribed on horrible passages such as “Belly of the Beat” and “Kill V. Maim” – the latter of which features both one of the worst vocal and lyrical performances Boucher has ever recorded. The compositional characterization of Art Angels’ defiance is utterly worthless and thematically depressing, with some of the most mainstream-sounding songwriting ever penned down by a former indie artist.

Quote someone more relevant, like Christgau:
>Generally the soprano signifies purity, which has never been my idea of virtue, not to mention fun. And given how hard it is to achieve, there can be a vanity to it as well—or in earlier Claire Boucher, a self-regarding freakishness. But on this pop-yet-not breakthrough, that pretension is blown away by generous tunes, changeable grooves, and dedicated intensity of purpose. This singer-composer-producer is neither cute nor ethereal, and although the consistency of her register is an affectation by definition, she'll convince anyone who isn't a grouch that she's just being herself, not merely female but, fuck you, feminine—the fairie she likes to claim crossed with a charming three-year-old getting what she wants. Which includes adrenaline highs and mitigated perversity and California love and pornography in phonetic Chinese. She embodies hyperfeminist individualism for a post-rock mindset that likes a good beat fine. A

Excuses. He likes that album. Period.

Sup Forums hates this album. It's just a couple die hard samefags. They even speak the exact same way and bring up the same tired points so it's not like it's hard to recognize. The rest of her "fans" are largely waifufags.
