All of my data has been erased on my laptop, so I have to start anew. What are the best sites to dl vsts and sound packs?

how can I get chord slides if it only lets you slide one note?

Is there a VST that loads XI files (FastTracker 2 instrument format)? Or a way to batch convert them to .WAV?

clyp.it/0qsiinsa

Newb here, any help please?

Long time FLS user tries Live 9

>clyp.it/o1wf0qnz

I can't get used to Live's interface. It's so sloooww.

Also, something keeps deleting my project files. Just. All of my saved project files are deleted as soon as close Live. I lost the project file for this as well.

What the fuck is happening? Please help.

>clyp.it/0qsiinsa

alternate velocity on your drums (look it up) to make them sound more human. also they're too loud

multiple instances for each note in the chord. also learn to play guitar.

that sucks.... obvs you should start keeping a backup.

wyy are you not just using fls.............

My first attempt at a real song

Feedback much appreciated

>clyp.it/yquifewu
Probably gonna change the hook at the beginning. Also, thinking about having someone rap between the first and second drops. I have up to half of the first drop made right now. Any suggestions?

I downloaded some (supposedly) good free drum sample pack. Here is how it sounds:

clyp.it/5xwgqww4

No effects (except small delay), just many layers. (Ignore the sound design on a synth which I failed yet again, even though I spent 10 times the amount of time on it....)

Anyway, I'll drop a link if you want, a bunch of big name producers were mentioned and it really seems good to me now when I tried it.

Fun fact, btw. I just realized I spent a full hour on this. I think I should consider suicide kek.

>clyp.it/qzfj3ums
clicks too loud. the kick sounds lowpassed? it shouldn't be. or a lot less. or use a different kick .... too much seperation between the frequencies imo. cool idea. maybe add a bit more

delay is too wet. also i think it should drop out at 28... and then change the patch or use a different sound when the main part comes up

>fun fact
shutup

drums sound good. chords are boring. also add a melody or SOMETHING

>chords are boring
I don't care, this is just a showcase for drums. If the sound design is trash, than that's a problem, but I made a melodic line in a minute. Those are not actually chords btw.

two notes two osc whatever

Hey what can you guys recommend as far as free vsts? More importantly, what's the best free piano vst?

obxd
minimogueva
synth1
tyrell n6
tal uno62

ambience...

i've not heard any usable pianos....

youtube.com/watch?v=mjqysusiZBk

How is he getting those synths that close to the face in the beginning?

What are all the parameters I should automate?

The free kontakt player comes with some a couple decent electric pianos (they're not amazing)

Does anybody have some habits they always do to their stuff?
What do you like to do to your drums? Any effects you like to use? Order of effects? (On anything, not just drums.)
I'm just looking for inspiration.

Please drop the link.

Here you go:

realdrumsamples.com/

You have to subscribe to his blog, just use whatever mail.

I found it through the Recording Revolution newsletter btw.

i chuck bitcrushing, granular pitch shift, phasing, very heavy filtering at my drums
they sound spastic but it's the way i like it

>delay is too wet.
On what? Everything?

I can tell you're very new, and that's ok. listen to a lot of the musicians you look up to and listen closely, study their song structures and all and put that stuff in your own music. that'll help you a lot

Pretty cool, although I think the vocals should sit further forward in the mix.

Btw, is that Dido?

Yes it is

how do fl users feel about sytrus new look

Oh shit. But they didn't change anything about how the envelopes work did they? That's the reason I can't really get into sytrus, the envelope controls are a complete mess.

Much better

Was at the park last night. I seem to have to create some sort of.... Suspicious Supercomputer??

You guys should take a look.

instaud.io/ujc

speaking of sytrus I've been messing around in fl and just out of curiosity what 'genre' is this closest to

autism & birthday parties

Kek

is that lead made with resonance, cutoff filters and vibrato?

pretty epig lel, autism & birthday parties will be the hot new EDM craze

have a not-shit quality controller, any one worth your money has a slide on it either in the form of a wheel, knob, little strange wooden thingy (why nord) etc.

FUCKING KEK

lmao can't unhear

Just downloaded Sylenth1 again after a long time. I don't know mayn, the presets sound awesome, I wonder, why is looking down on somebody who uses presets even a thing? So what, I find something I like and tweak it. Is there even such a thing as "out of fashion" sounds people here sometimes talk about?

most producers do just take a preset and tweak it a little bit

there are songs which have hundreds of millions of listens that have been exposed to just use a preset with one knob tweaked a little bit

nobody cares if your song is good lol

this is some good autism

That's good. Idk, I just listen to too much sound designers sometimes, like Seamless, shitting on people who use presets instead of doing everything from scratch, so yeah...

But then again, people like Deadmau5 and Madeon make their own sounds, so something is always itching me and telling me I should do it too.

Shit like this is educational as fuck:

youtube.com/watch?v=FmMTGJDS2ww

Downloaded his flp and that distorted bass in the drop is bretty gud. It uses GMS synth, huh, never played with it that much, except when I started in FL and didn't know what I was doing.

i dont think seamless shits on people for that dead mao 5 might though

seamless said the end product matters more than how you got to it

Ok, maybe not shitting on it, but he mentioned in one video how professional sound designers sometimes use simple presets instead of making their own sounds, like that guy in a walking dead trailer. And how people who have experience with that shit recognize presets immediately, but yeah, it doesn't really matter in the end.

Fuck me, I'd really like to learn Serum properly, but I can't find a decent crack which doesn't ask me for a keygen everytime I open it.

you can buy serum on a plan now

like 10$ a month until you own it

i would do it if i didnt have a shit cpu

go2bed, kim.

Maybe I can make something out of this actually. Eh, I'm going to bed now, have to fix muddiness tomorrow. I always have troubles with this.

clyp.it/ifiuhtmf

I make my own presets
I often want a raw clav sound to process with wah and other stuff, so I usually make a plucky synth with pulse waves no matter what. So my clav preset is just that with pulse width modulated by the mod wheel.

Saw pads are also very common, so I have one that I feel like is my perfect pad starting point. I have another for a pulse width pad.

Sometimes it's also fun to take monophonic patches and make them poly.

WE WUZ ACID HOUSE

303 is also dank in psytrance

>shitloads of TR808 clones made
>none of them can get the clap correct
Why isn't there one of them that can do this?

the main synth playing the motif

because people who have no idea what they're doing sometimes rely on presets to avoid actually learning how to program a synth

// a kid who drops a few hundred bucks a nice synth and a sample pack can make lazy music doing literally nothing with just those presets and a 4/4 beat and feel accomplished

// those same kids are cluttering up the internet with lazy music and presets may contribute to the hoards of perceived "generic" music

don't stop using presets, or feel any need to tweak if it's right for the song... they just allow people to be lazy. nbd really

>I make my own presets

I wish i actually started saving patches sooner.
I would keep working on shitty songs just because some sounds sounded REALLY good pro mlg without ever thinking to just save the patch and move on....

+if it's quicker to just load a sound up if i want to bang out an idea really quick...

feels more satisfying then using other peoples sounds...

tbqf i'm kind of tired of people only using 808's

the kicks are great for layering...
that (style of) snare is good and non intrusive but there are several others like it...

there are SO many 808 samples online idg why people bother with drum machines tbf...
workflow i guess

You can play with the sounds live on a drum machine.

Sure if you just wanted to throw a shitload of samples into a daw to get every hit the way you want it, that would work, but I really don't think they're meant for that type of stuff.

>You can play with the sounds live on a drum machine.
>I really don't think they're meant for that type of stuff.

but you can tho.
far more extensively even

trust me....................................

instaud.io/um5

downloaded and will sample endlessly

what is it though

sounds like youre shoving a dragon dildo up your ass and you sampled and processed it

I meant that I don't think drum machines are for meticulously placing samples in a DAW. I thought the two clearly seperate lines would help clear that up.

It is bullshit.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daxophone

Here are more recordings of pigs fucking, or daxophones. Hard to tell the difference sometimes, really......

freesound.org/people/samuelburt/packs/8357/

(^ not me)

cubase is the best daw for using hardware imo

Why do I keep getting nonsensical replies to my posts?

It's more like a fetish item t b h. I've been obsessed with a lot of these early - mid 80s tapes.

how do you not have an anxiety attack listening to this O___O

i think this is good desu

"The piece titled "Laxodone", it really pushes the boundaries of what sound "is" and how it "sounds" and "feels". The artist, Laxo, had this to say: "I created this piece of auditory experience for you, my friends, so that you all may join me upon the path towards transcendence of our mortal form, and we will integrate with the physics of the universe, thus becoming Omega""

Would you guys concur?

i concur that it sounds gay

youtube.com/watch?v=ofcLU-gFF9c&feature=youtu.be

Hrrrm, indeed, that is quite an interesting hypothesis, friend. Perhaps it is indeed our carefully socioecoengineering sub-conscious sexual depravity that causes these kinds of reactions among us......

Have you considered reviewing the peer-pre-reviews? I assure you that the latest revised versions are quite high quality, and there hasn't been a single error that I've spotted. At least not yet, haha!

Anyways, do get back to me with the results for that, yes? I shall be on leave upon the morrow. I'll be setting out for England, going to visit my Mother. Feel free to leave your correspondence with my definitively straight male secretary. He shall communicate it with me.

oy vey

Hey, man. I put a little bit of work into that. Back off.

What's the best free DAW and starting tools for someone who knows nothing about music/production? I am sort of familiar with VSTis but is it possible I can just use samples to build things in the beginning.

I am interested in having general knowledge and gaining the ability to make any kind of music, whether it be classical or Trap music.

>best free DAW
reaper

google

That sounds exceedingly pretentious. Almost as if that was their goal.

i think that's the joke

............................ That entire post is bullshit. I wrote it for the sake of bullshit.....................................

they'll never understand, user.

you too

Well, then they must be absolutely fucking retarded to have not noticed that it was facetious. Jesus Christ, people....

It'll be okay. They don't matter as long as you love yourself.

its only bantz lad

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EVERYONE IS AN IDIOT AND I AM THE ONLY NON-DOWN SYNDROME RETARD LEFT TO WALK UPON THIS EARTH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
DOOOOOONAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLDDDDDDDDDDDDDD TRUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

so i just got a new computer and have to start from scratch with samples and VSTs bc im too lazy to convert my stuff from my old computer over. i have some good drum packs i know of that i can download so im covered there, but what are some nice free VSTs i can download ? i mainly used samples before so i only had a few random synths, i used massive a lot

>DOOOOOONAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLDDDDDDDDDDDDDD TRUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

jej

it'll be okay

>convert my stuff from my old computer
wtf just chuck that shit in a flash drive or in a cloud and bring it over you lazy fuck also you fuckers are so lazy sometimes

my favorite freeware subtractive synth is u-he tyrell

amazona.de/amazona-de-freeware-tyrell-n6-synth/

just ctrl+f mac or win and dl your version

>sound packs

>reaper

thanks. but what about my other question? will a big sample folder suffice or should i work more with vstis at least in the beginning?

what do many popular producers do?

o

depends on the music you want to make. i mean if you're trying to be dj shadow then yeah just stack samples

i'd suggest copping a couple drum packs from /r/drumkits, a couple free synths, and just getting to it.

No matter what kind of music you make, i would recommend learning a synthesizer and a sampler inside and out and really get to know what you're doing before you try anything else-
The basics of sound design on a subtractive synth like synth1 or tyrell n6 (a couple of the only free synths i still bother with since moving on to paid plugins) will still carry over to samplers and effects etc.

I've no idea what kind of sampling capabilities reaper has stock (or how people playback drum samples on it). I've only had experience with ableton's drum rack and NI Battery. Somebody else could chime in... Maybe there's something decent for free.

So my PC doesn't detect my Waldorf Blofeld at all via USB, any ideas? I bought it with firmware 1.22.

Can I arpeggiate and sequence the MS-20 Mini using the Arturia Keystep with MIDI In to the MS-20?

i'm kinda interested in making electronic music, remixes, trap and generally today's goofy hip-hop (ie lil yachty's producer) possibly make a whole new sound. i'm not good with making choices unfortunately.

I was very inspired by this beat if that helps
youtube.com/watch?v=jOwiAvLBxsk

yeh if ms-20 has a midi in

cool song.
yeah everything i said still stands. definitely get good at sampling if you want to make remixes that are unique.

only other advice i forgot is to keep your samples organized. Obvs stray away from the presets and really dig deep if you want to get good at programming synths

can't stop listening to this
