>Christian Petzold (1677 – before 2 June 1733) was a German composer and organist. He was active primarily in Dresden, and achieved a high reputation during his lifetime, but his surviving works are few. It was established in the 1970s that the famous Minuet in G major, previously attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach, was in fact the work of Petzold. The sprightly melody was used in the 1960s pop music hit "A Lover's Concerto," by the American group The Toys. [1][2][3]

youtube.com/watch?v=2bx66RJ1m94
youtube.com/watch?v=AJPrM1_HR04 (especially the last movement)

honorable mention for The Battle of Prague, despite the fact that this recording isn't that great
youtube.com/watch?v=x2CJEiQP2C8

which composer do you most want to get fucked by, /classical/? I'll start.

Johann Hermann Schein

Clara Schumann

you have to explain your reasons, user

it's mostly the hair, but also the domineering pose and contemptuous gaze

>woman
disgusting

Lili Boulanger

Look at this qtpi

looks sheepish

i want lili boulanger to peg me desu

shh dont tell anyone

You calling me a Welshman?

no, i'm calling you a welshwife

I'd also be up for that

True Pleb detected.

well... she can if she really wants to, but Robert has to take me from behind

>caring about the composer more than his works
>caring about the composer as a person at all
How low can /classical/ go?

>no one has said the qtest composer of all

depends on how hot you are

is her neck ok

>he doesnt want to be suffocated by lili boulangers butte

it's bent because it's being oppressed by Russian gravity

>Slavshit
>had Cholera
Ha Ha Ha Ha. Nein.

that seems to be a pretty common Sup Forums thing. Talking more about the people making the music than the music.

that seems to be a pretty common world thing
it's easier to talk about people than something like music, no matter how much theory you know

yeah simpletons tend to need a "human" aspect of a story in order to really grasp it. Its really very easy to discuss music without the biographical element. the composers life is more of an interesting footnote to the music itself.

>no Brahms yet
Pig disgusting.

Prelude to the afternoon of the faun

He didn't even write any good fugues though

Lies. Lies and slander.

Is Petzold the best composer ever?

Most likely, yeah.

youtube.com/watch?v=hE6pkTb49DQ

youtube.com/watch?v=SqciMXaABjA

youtube.com/watch?v=VKcxcoNUd-s

This was the only petzold piece I could find and its pretty mediocre

youtube.com/watch?v=ne1vsKdwSTY

Still better than Bach's oeuvre.

do you guys have any sort of guide to "getting" classical music? or is the best way just to keep listening until you have a general understanding of it?

its just that it's such an overwhelming thing to get into, and i also haven't listened to too much outside of modern classical

Evolving an attention span helps. Take up meditation if you're too easily distracted.

You can just listen to it like you do normal music y'know.
I mean I guess if you want a deeper understanding you could read some books or skim Wikipedia and learn some basic music terms.

Read about the theory and structure on Wikipedia. Read about the piece itself on Wikipedia, Classical Notes or booklets (if you bought a CD or downloaded it in a torrent). Watch youtube videos (I recently watched Schiff talking about Bach's solo suites, for example). If you don't get a piece after several listens, listen to different interpretations. Bach can be difficult to get into, no need to rush to his music just because he's well-known.

But listening is certainly more important when it comes to learning how to enjoy. Theory is a sort of a map, you can find a bar on a map but you won't drink a beer with your friends and gave fun on the map.

Messiah by Handel. John Elliot Gardener

Read Rosen, listen to Mozart.
archive.rebeccablacktech.com/mu/thread/S64393648

How old are you? I started weed when I was underage, it looks weird to see an adult doing weed for the first time.

Also, at the beginning you'll probably fuck it up, won't feel anything, burn your throat and just cough out all the smoke.

i got the attention span down for the most part

that's what ive been doing
for the different interpretations thing, i checked out a different interpretation of le sacre du printemps and i enjoyed it more than the leonard bernstein everyone seems to love. i'll read some stuff on wikipedia and see what happens

nice, gonna read that

There's not much helping you when it comes to different interpretations. That one is really just a matter of what you like.
If you want some book recs Rosen, like said is great. Other than the Classical Style I'd also rec the Romantic Generation and Freedom and the Arts. Grove is also nice but Rosen's criticism in Freedom and the Arts should be kept in mind.

31
I don't smoke or drink because I don't like it and also I'm a pussy.
Want to see if drugs can enhance appreciation of music and fine arts in general. I'll start with weed because I read it's not as harmful as all the other drugs.

Yes weed will most likely produce that effect on you. You see, when you smoke weed THC will go into your brain and act as serotonin substitute. Serotonin is the chemical your brain produces responsible for pleasures feelings, happiness.
So when you're brain is running wild on fake serotonin, everything looks lovely. When people are high on weed, they're not really hungry, it's just that food tastes better i.e.
Regarding to music what will happen is the following: Shitty music becomes acceptable, good music becomes amazing music and amazing music becomes like reaching nirvana.
I love listening to classical music while high on weed.

>weed will suddenly make Schoenberg and Memehausen acceptable
can't wait desu

Further proof that Schoenberg is underrated.

>because I don't like it
How can you say you don't like weed if you've never tried it?

I was talking about cigarettes.
Weed seems like a useful, fun and harmless drug. Tobacco is just a meme addiction.

Best composer who doubled as murderer
Gesualdo or Salieri?

...

Gesualdo because Salieri wasn't a murderer.

I like this nocturne
youtube.com/watch?v=hlUmkcedZMs

post music more sublime than this

youtube.com/watch?v=QYlEo0hbPEM

I'll wait

Any more good spooky atonal shit like Scriabin's 6tn Sonata?

youtube.com/watch?v=6mcxEtyEUw4

What's the best classical music for a drunken 2:30 am kebab run?

Except for that fucking cough

liszt - nuages gris

Bartok - Violin Sonata No.1
youtu.be/CFmBsoUyAbs

If you want really spooky dooky shit, check out Xenakis - Cendrees

That's a pretty weak stabat mater.
youtube.com/watch?v=Y9PVPY1mGeg

Maybe in a bad part of the city. The only things to watch out for in this part of Seattle are the street stoners who will probably want to smoke a bowl with you. And hobos.

That's more like it

youtube.com/watch?v=-vY91CQ3lV8

Hey Cal, what do you think of Feltsman's AoF?

This and the CLT western canon chart are good places to start.

Neither - Xenakis.

3 keyboard pieces I'd recommend

harpsichord piece:
> pancrace Royer - la Marche des scythes

Organ piece
> Maurice Duruflé - Prelude, Adagio et Variations de "Veni Creator"

Piano piece
> ravel - Gaspard de nuit

No wait, those are Frenchmen.

Disregard that and go for
Harpsichord
> Bach - Goldberg variations

Organ
> Reger - BACH fantasia and fugue

Piano
Uh... Bartok etudes op 17
