Okay Sup Forums, quality of music is not dependent on genre whatsoever, would you agree?
Give me some Country artists to listen to that aren't shit.
>inb4 lynard skynard
I'm looking for recent stuff - like the last couple years. It's a genre I haven't explored much, but someone must be making decent music in this genre that isn't about tractors and pickup trucks and coors light and shit, right?
i've got a few alt-country suggestions that are probably laughable but what the hell i like them
Mojave 3 - Excuses for Travelers Mazzy Star - Seasons of Your Day Wild Reeds - Blind and Brave Avett Brother - Country Was River City Extension - Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Your Anger
There's a new Carrie Rodriguez?! How tf did I not know about that?? Thanks for the heads up. Also + Hwy 20 & Pawn Shop Haven't given the Randy Rogers or the Dylan LeBlanc lp's repeat listens since I discovered them.
Grayson Rogers
blimp
Caleb Green
>Okay Sup Forums, quality of music is not dependent on genre whatsoever, would you agree?
that's an extremely stupid thing to say
if the genre is awful then obviously the music is going to be the worse for it
Thomas Barnes
>There's a new Carrie Rodriguez?! How tf did I not know about that?? Thanks for the heads up. You're very welcome, happy to help. I was completely unfamiliar with her even though we apparently have a Carrie Rodriguez day here in Austin. I just picked it up from a big display in the record store since it was cheap and yet another album this year to feature Bill Frisell
Jackson Scott
Sturgill Simpson Chris Stapleton
Luis Rivera
Jason
Cameron Powell
our boy Jason
Chase Peterson
>yet another album this year to feature Bill Frisell That man is on fire. Lucinda's been championing Carrie since her debut as well. Such a tight knit community, the alt. country set are. I think I'll pop another Frisell album tomorrow. I've been enjoying a lot of guitar Jazz like Grant Green and Wes Montgomery. Country and Jazz. That seems to be my poison these days.
David Cox
>I've been enjoying a lot of guitar Jazz Did you hear the new Nels Cline that came out on Friday?
Chase Lewis
haha i have it queued. Dl'ing it tonight and listening to it tomorrow. Can't wait. It'll be the second album called 'Lovers' that I've heard after the 2003 Sleepy Jackson album which is actually Country'ish if you want to give it a listen. youtube.com/watch?v=Ttc3b8q7RjY If it's half as good as that one was I'll be happy af, another album I'm looking forward to from Jenny Lewis.
Isaiah Long
is beachwood sparks country?
Leo Thomas
alt. country, according to their bio
Jaxon Allen
but there's no such thing as a genre that's irredeemably bad. there's genres where it takes a little more digging to find good shit but i have yet to stumble upon a genre that just utterly sucks
Caleb Reed
grindcore screamo
Oliver Gonzalez
there's good shit in both of those genres-- and i say that as someone who doesn't really listen to heavy rock very often.
napalm death, nails, infest (unless that's more powerviolence), weekend nachos, jeromes dream, saetia, swing kids. i'm sure i could list more. like i said, i don't even particularly love either of these genres but it's silly to just write them off entirely
James James
that's not the argument, stupid
OP said that genre has nothing to do with quality. it obviously does and you just admitted as much
Brayden Taylor
Fuck off. Every genre has been experiencing a low-key 2016 including Country.
i did not admit as much, though. there are definitely cultural, historical, or commercial trends that can bury the gems in certain genres deeper than others, but there's no genre that you could just completely write off as shitty
Jayden Thompson
man metal encompasses such a wide range of music it's like you're not even trying to prove me wrong. if you said something like >power metal, i'd have a lot harder of a time arguing
again, for the third time, that is not the argument. the issue was OP saying "quality of music is not dependent on genre whatsoever", which is obvious bullshit
Angel Allen
I forgot about this album, but this thread reminded me of it.
