no, 家も近いから can't be good enough. It should be 家に近いから or 家からも近いので It's small mistake, so they couldn't notice. Other part of your sentence are all fine, tho.
I thought of using 家からもちかい too, but it felt weird to me, i'll use that then, thanks a lot.

Please, explain haiku. I dont know japanese, and for me haiku is just about number of syllables in each line. No wordplay, rhythm or rhyme is involved, and it seems too easy to be poetry. But i guess, in japanese it makes more sense somehow.
