I'm not really sure why vaporwave etc is so popular when you could just listen to old city pop/funk/disco whatever. Its usually better. p.s. listen to my city pop playlist thanks
What's everyone been listening to lately? Aoty(s)?
Looks like a good list. I'll check it out.
been listening to Hanayo but the link is sweet
Hope you find it helpful.
Does anyone want an invite to JPS? I have two to spare.

I love you
sent ;-)
i'll send some bonus points your way when you accept
This is good.
I've been going thru DJ Krush's discog. 90's-00'x
turntablism/triphop for those unfamiliar. This is one of my favorites off of Meiso, his best imo.
I'm this user
I would love one thanks, (iv had it since i was 12 fuk u)
What artists are the most similar to YMO?
youtube.com
If you dont mind.

Thank you in advance.
Uchu Conbini would be the best band in this thread but unfortunately their music no longer available outside of their home country. same with Hasuinonasa, Te', and The Cabs. so uhhhh Toe? Jizue? Bohemianvoodoo? This??
youtube.com
P-model / susumu hirasawa?
Krush is good. I don't know why he isn't more popular on this board.
sent ;-)
imo the Sakamoto and Hosono stuff they produced in the '80s scratches more or less the same itch
sorry fresh out !
haruomi hosono
Missed by a hair
Thank you though!
youtube.com
this is Uchu Conbini btw, def worth a listen if you're a fan of clean-sounding "emo", noodly guitars and/or math rock
>synth funk that vaporwave tries to rip off
you're trying too hard
>liking vaporwave
I know this is a vague description, but what is that god damn Japanese album that's a collection of music for elevators (I think?)
It was never released on cd, only on vinyl and there are other volumes that still haven't surfaced.
If y'all haven't heard soil and pimp sessions, or bottom rhythm jam, you're doing yourself a disservice. AINT NO JAZZ LIKE THE JAPS
>"hey guys whats some music like YMO"
>reply with literally the members of YMO
thanks for the obvious I guess, but any other artists?
he means its the very aesthetic that vaporwave steals, oops I mean "is inspired by"
That second vid was awesome, making a playlist now
Is this easy listening?
thanks man
only band i've heard of there is Toe, can you let me know why Jizue, Bohemian Voodoo, and This are worth listening to?
any shintaro sakamoto/Yura Yura Teikoku fans in here? This album is so good
Mono and Boris the best of Japanese bands imo
youtube.com
youtube.com
any more like this? (恋人へ) by (Lamp)
specifically the first track, which sounds a bit like a demo but I love the melancholy please
Shigeo Sekito Special Sound Series
I found Shintaro Sakamoto randomly on Spotify quite recently, can't remember how. Really like that album.
good album, but very repetitive
...
good poster
Perhaps I wasn't clear, but I was talking about the techno kayo/synthpop stuff they produced for other artists, not actually their music. Tamao Koike, Miharu Koshi, Chiemi Manabe, early Pizzicato V, Susan, etc. Also I would recommend Soft Selection 84 and you might like some of the Vanity Records output.
youtube.com
Here's a channel with a ton of playlists of different Japanese music
Jizue is kind of like if toe was more chill and with less 'intense' drumming + piano. Solid stuff.
YYT was nice.
I don't remember what that sounds like desu. I haven't listened to it in years. I'll fix that.
Speaking of YMO and YMO members this song is crazy good.
im listening to it right now and 最終列車は25時 is so good im actually dancing along, great happy music
the best Happy End song
youtube.com
I don't think I've heard this before, thanks for posting.
Sounds nice; very pleasant.
>something not from Kazemachi Roman
#controversial
bumping with an underrated band, good performance.

>Aoty(s)?
I haven't listened to much this year but I'd go with amazarashi's new album.
For You by Tasuro Yamashita
all the weebs on lastfm are really excited about Seiko Oomori's new album, personally I liked her debut but since then it's too poppy for me
I only know this
Another good Japanese math rock band w/ a female singer is Tricot. They're a bit more upbeat and rhythmic rather than noodley tho

Any house influenced tracks?
youtube.com
I've been listening to Soft Ballet and minus(-) a lot in the last week, I was late to hear that Ken Morioka died in June. This year has not been kind to musicians.
You put Anonymass as Anonymoss on that list.
Ryo Fukui died as well. rip in peace
>You put Anonymass as Anonymoss on that list.
Oops, how embarrassing! Thank you for pointing that out! I've made note of it but I'm not sure when I'll next update it.
Christ, I love Yamashita so much.
Are there any other artists that sound like him? Preferably english-speaking ones?
If you ever think about editing it I'd recommend adding Stars in Video Game for Oono Yuuki's album and Serph's album Heartstrings under electronic.
Thank you! I will look into these.
I'm always thinking about ways to improve it, and I always take suggestions/criticisms. I just don't push regular, frequent updates anymore.
What do we think about this? I listened to this back in 2014 on a japanese share thread.
They're two of my favorite japanese artists.
I was trying to find a specific various artists album with Serph in the archive and a thread from 2012 came up that has a bunch of folders that are still active. There's some really great ambient/electronic/glitch music in it.

Check out MartyMcflies on youtube. The guy uploads a bunch of synth covers of old anime music and usually provides download links to mp3 and flacs.

I'm not sure I've heard it?
Cool, thanks for sharing!

Do you have a dl for it? Cant find one anywhere
My most favorite song.

What do you guys think of Tokyo Black Hole? Been listening to a lot of that lately.
Really enjoyed the whole thing at first but on repeated listens I find there's a disparity between the songs that are good and the songs that are really fucking good. Still, sweet arty pop record.
Favourites would be the first two tracks:

Would you happen to have a Zeigeist dl? Cant find one.
i use a site called yuonmai.me
it might be invite only right now.
They have all the albums and the single they just released for the new album, also Zeitgeist isn't their best album imo, Misstopia and Elegance are really good.
yeah it's invite only
waiting for the next registration session ლ(╹◡╹ლ)
finding vaporwave, to find future funk, to find sampled 80s japanese funk music, to find full 80s japanese funk music was the best thing that happened to me. this music is killer.

Anyone know of some good jap glitch pop stuff thats gone under the radar in the vein of ACO - Irony, Haco - Secret Garden, or Tujiko Noriko's discog? Really into this stuff at the moment. Also Yoko Fujita - Atai no Nomida is new favorite for me.
Jizue is pretty neat. It's like a jazzier Toe with piano
She is so great my man
