Probably would have overstayed their welcome and not been nearly as legendary

We would look at them the same way we look at Guns N Roses.

>pearl jam

fify

they would have become a hyperextremely complex musicianship on the acoustic side with both power chords and at-unison singing skills

Nirvana had too much of a cultural impact. The second Smells Like Teen Spirit crossed over and became a pop hit they were destined to go down as icons to some extent.

but the widespread cultural impact happened after kurt died. in the perspective of the masses, smells like teen spirit was just another pop song from some band.

they would have slowly faded into obscurity after increasingly overproduced albums

It totally wasn't though. Smells Like Teen Spirit really did change the face of popular culture overnight and was never intended to be a hit in the first place.

That didn't happen at all, they just sold a lot of CDs, tickets and merch.

you werent even alive then, were you?

I don't know anyone else in Rock who was so primed for that fate. If he lived, I bet he would've gone down into very slow obscurity and turned into a middle-aged soap celebrity.

No, the widespread cultural impact happened when Teen Spirit was released. They were the biggest band in the world BEFORE Cobain died. The paradigm shift in the music industry was already underway -- everybody from The Butthole Surfers to The Meat Puppets were getting major label deals, FM stations were switching to alternative rock format everywhere, and Shonen Knife was getting played on MTV. Nirvana weren't just some random band before Cobain died, they were huge. All the thinkpieces were already being written in 1992.

But anyway, Nirvana would've broken up anyhow. I don't know what Cobain's career would have looked like then. Even if he somehow lived, he'd still have the same problems. Maybe he'd be making fun of the Foo Fighters on twitter today. I don't know.

u wot?

Nevermind was a mega popular album. So was In Utero, actually

He would probably quit music and occasionally write reviews or something. He'd get boring but still respected and probably guest star on an episode of Portlandia or something.

Hopefully slighty more relaxed and contamplative stuff like Unplugged

I would have loved to see Kurt talking shit to Dave on twitter

keep reading articles that glorify the era you were born too late to experience for yourselves

Kurt would've never use internet, he was too much of a contrarian

he would've probably done acoustic stuff like he said he would (yeah, he said it, don't remember the sauce), quit Nirvana, do collaborations with other artists

Clearly you weren't even alive when Kurt an heroed.

Him and Courtney had a Mac II and read what people were saying about them on BBS. I remember reading a Courtney interview from that time where she talks about it.

Supposedly he posted on a Nirvana forum/newsgroup/whatever once sometime between Rome and his death.

lmao u guys are all dumb

watch montage of heck on netflix then you guys will know what really happened

youtu.be/FtDCJpVw1EU?t=3m15s

It's all in the interview

He had an interest in Blues after listening to Leadbelly. I think he probably would have gone down an acoustic/blues route if he lived.

>killed himself

he was pretty conscious of how people saw him so he would probably be wrapped up in internet stuff.
he had some political/social opinions and some people have said he probably would have ended up being a sjw

I seriously see him posting in Sup Forums chart threads and getting into arguments about what was the best Pixies album

He would probably also browse Sup Forums since he was into a lot of sick shit

>into a lot of sick shit
huh?

I've read that he would watch scat porn (not because its a fetish but because he had a huge interest in fecal matter)
He also watched the suicide video of Budd Dwyer over and over again

He was just fascinated with anything out of the ordinary

He was edgy for the sake of being edgy. He would have undoubtedly mellowed out with age, just like Dave and Krist did. I doubt he'd post on Sup Forums, and if he did it would not be frequently and would be anonymously.

I do that
its just natural morbid curiosity no?

he was a big fan of Naked Lunch so i suppose it makes sense -- tho to be fair the "weirdness" factor of that book is largely exaggerated.

isn't there some record he did with burroughs or something?

I tried reading that book in my early teens and gave up, felt to tryhard. "junkie" stuff gets really old fast and people parade it as 2deep4u

going through my own troubles through the years it was something to vibe with, but where I'm at now, someone lent me a henry rollins book and I just couldn't go back to that stuff

>Maybe he'd be making fun of the Foo Fighters on twitter today
now this is our duty

>He would have retired from music for about 6-8 or so years, gets clean, release a solo album that gets hardly any attention from the mainstream, his fans are hyped to begin with but become lukewarm when they hear it.
>He does some music work sparingly, being featured on some bands album and what not, but nothing major.
>Over these years the only time he is mentioned in mainstream press is on TMZ when he or Courtney does something "outlandish", probably going through a divorce while they talk shit about each other constantly.
>In the past 5-6 years he becomes very vocal through social media, telling everyone's opinions on everthing, people get sick of him, he gains the label of a "washed-up sell out" and is pretty much a joke to the hipster crowd, the tumblr crowd takes no notice of him because his suicide was the only thing they were really interested, only nostalgic gen x's care about him.
>Recently Nirvana reunited even though Dave Grohl has a much more successful band.
>They go on a reunion tour which receives mixed reviews due to Kurt being low energy and his voice not being as good as it use to be.
>They open for Pearl Jam a few times.
>Eventually Grohl goes back to FF, and Kurt goes back to shit talking about everyone on Facebook and twitter.

what about his painting and poetry?
hed probably become a spokesperson for some political groups too

>he probably would have ended up being a sjw
>"Never met a wise man, if so it's a woman" - Territorial pissings

Imagine how the internet would react to that line nowadays lol

If he didn't kill himself he would have overdosed on heroin or gotten clean and start releasing shit albums.

Nirvana would have broken up after another album or two then we would have Foo Fighters and a slightly better Foo Fighters

>what about his painting and poetry?
Sure I guess he would do that in his spare time, but it's not like those are newsworthy or would somehow sell like hotcakes and regain some former glory.
>hed probably become a spokesperson for some political groups too
I think that would fall under "becomes very vocal through social media, telling everyone's opinions on everthing, people get sick of him, he gains the label of a "washed-up sell out" and is pretty much a joke to the hipster crowd"

I always felt that Kurt was just acting a huge libtard and feminist because of the conservative environment at the time
He probably would've became a Libertarian and constantly endorsed Ron Paul to feel like an outcast

He would probably continue the evolution from Nevermind to Inutero to do less melody and more dissonant and tortured albums.
He also said that he saw himself do more accoustic songs like johnny cash.
Anyway this would have a lot to do with how his live would have evolved : stoping drugs, having a wife who care about him, being happy with life.
He was a great artist, he would have done amazing things for sure.

I think they would have broken up and Kurt would've tried to stay low key. Maybe like Salinger or maybe like Stipe. Nirvana would be just as important though. I remember when they came out on MTV. Before them it was a lot of gnr and the like in heavy rotation, as I recall. I remember going to my cousins house after second grade and watching MTV with him and us beong so stoked when enter sandman or slts would come on. I'm too old to be here. Help.

They would've released one more good album then taken a huge nose-dive in quality thereafter, if they could've held together for another 20 years.

they would have been THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST
