Because Sup Forums is much like the rest of this website: filled with the anti-social and insecure. They see something wrong with society (or more often: society not offering them something they feel entitled to) and they're attracted to this idea of a strong daddy figure who hands them everything they could ever need. Hitler more or less believed in the same thing as Stalin: to each according to their needs, from each according to their abilities. He simply did not extend this favor to scary brown people and creepy hooknosed kikes.
The problem with a totalitarian state, one that Sup Forumser/pol/ never even stops to consider, is that it becomes hell when you no longer 100% agree with all the decisions of the Great Leader. Sup Forums loves shitting on Merkel (and with merit) but forget that in a totalitarian state that kind of talk about the Great Leader or his cronies will get you executed without a trial.

He doesn't need consent as much as he need to prevent dissent. The Soviet Union achieved this with an extremely effective police and a system that rewarded ratting out, as well as massive censorship. What you think about Stalin doesn't matter as long as you're never allowed to express that opinion, never know how many people share your opinion and the few who do speak out are made an example of. Totalitarian regimes are... well, totalitarian. They seem to control everything, even their own people. If it was simply about keeping the people happy (which would have more in common with a Roman style dictatorship), then gulags and secret polices wouldn't have to exist. And then there wouldn't be various secret organizations that spy on eachother as well.
