Well you have to remember the difference in fanbases. Kpop fans are a lot more involved in their communities because the artists give them so much material and play up the fanservice so they're much more attached to their favs than the average passive western top40 fan. They also actually spend money on these artists (well, a lot more than western fans). So yeah they have the sales numbers going up but you don't see it integrating much into actual Western culture/audiences.
I do agree even Hello Bitches would have done better if they properly targeted America with it. Still wouldn't have been a hit, but moreso than this song. At the end of the day, they could try their darndest to make an English Western style song, but it'll always be derivative of the music we already have here and will likely not do it better. The only time a kpop song blows up here is when it's a memesong like Psy.
I guess that's a good point. It just kind of reminds me of when you look back at early kpop styles and cringe.. except it's present day.
