Win popular vote

>Win popular vote
>Lose "Electoral College" by a landslide

So can we finally kill the "America values democracy" meme?

Not the first time it's happened
That's what Bush v Gore was all about, and it's happened a few other times too.

>1.8 million votes from people who aren't even alive anymore.
Ah yes, because clearly so many people went to Clinton rallies

I thought Trump won popular vote by like 1 million

The States are electing a president. Not the people of the US.

The only thing weird is that they seem to like parade the dude around like he has more representative weight than simply being their chief of executive power.

>Win popular vote
By less than 0.3%. Who rejected the null hypothesis that every "ballot" is actually a pretty fair coin toss?

districts

Obama is "President Of The United States' Districts"?

>nigger Harper wins less than 40% of the vote
>gets a majority government

>faggot Trudeau wins less than 40% of the vote
>gets an even larger majority government

Your tears are sweet

first past the post is shit
S H I T

electoral college is divided by districts

So muricans, is it "We the People" or "We the arbitrarily defined artificial and unskewed ((( Electoral College ))))"?

we've literally never been a direct democracy. i don't know why retards like you even pay attention to the popular cote. it's meaningless.

the STATES are the ones that are voting. that's the way it's always been and that's a GOOD THING. the context, cultural, values, politics, and economies of each of the states are not the same. so we give the states the vote, not the entire country's population.

It's funny that Hillary got dicked over by super delegates first time she ran.

She never actually won an election, except her first senate election and that was due to the fact that the republican candidate quit the race.

Both the previous conservative majority and the current liberal majority were achieved with 40% of the popular vote. Our is just as bad.

>creates Electoral College to prevent the election of demagogues
>College prevents election by mass hysteria
>Prevents tyranny of masses and cult of personality

Elects Trump. kek

America, you're doing it wrong.

>UKIP gets 20% of the vote
>receives one measly fucking seat
>people complain about it
>hahaha deal with it you racist bigots

If the Brits have shitty democracy, their sons shouldnt get good democracy either

Indeed, we are the United States, not the United People.

Can we have a smug Hillary thread? I won't have an excuse to post them otherwise now that Trump won.

I've seen that most people on the internet hate hillary. But she still got the most votes irl. Trumptards are mentally disabled so can somebody here tell me what's so terrible about her. Don't give me none that email shit.

She epitomizes everything the average person despises about politicians. She's a robot, she's a liar, she's a corporate stooge, she's a bad politician, she's corrupt and she really only cares about herself.

>republicans lose the electoral college for years and years and years
>throw a fit everytime and everyone just ignores them
>dems lose the electoral college for the first time in years
>OMG DEMOCRACY IS DEAAD
what a shit meme

someone could explain to you just how it works, so that the electoral college is the best way to properly assess support as well as balance regions of the country properly, but i don;t care to at the moment

no, the left was defeated this year, and part of that victory means that your smug clittons are rendered useless.

this alone is enough to make me cry tears of joy.

Cons are scared shitless of representative voting though. They know leftist parties would get 60-70% of the vote everytime.

Trudeau isn't gonna do it either. It's been equally as kind to them.

>by a landslide
I for one support reforming the vote to something a bit less retarded (an americanized version of the parliamentary system with Instant Runoff Voting) but 350,000 isn't a landslide

Bush Jr. was fairly recent all things considered.

Hillary was just a forced meme. Bernie and Trump had stronger meme magic. This isn't a joke.

He said trump won by a landslide not hilldog.

306 electoral college votes is

I mean it was New York, so she would've won regardless

Too bad, I'm still posting them.

...

Seriously tho, can you imagine how Sup Forums would have reacted if he had lost?

>implying that the pre-Southern Strategy GOP is the same as the current one

Republicans lost 6 out of 7 last presidential elections by popular vote. Let that sink in.

If anything, at least it was fun posting these and watching Trumptards flip out.

She nearly lost desu.

>tfw this image was made 100% justified when it was supposed to be ammo
what a wonderful week

like the last two elections

but not this time

I wonder when the "Hillary is going to win" version will come out?

don't know

Well the emails actually do say a lot about her. The email server was so her thoughts would not be public She is trying to have her cake and eat it, too. Mayor Quimby incarnate.

Putting aside her scandals, she also has no real merits. You need positives to your name. The best you can say about her is that she's a feminist, and I'm not sure that's a positive anymore. Everything else about her is that she supported whatever flavor of the year hot issue other Democrats supported and her husband was president.

Kek

Google it man. It will make sense to you when you read about their two party system and the representative system. Whether you like it or not, from that perspective it makes sense. They are a federation after all.

I never read Sup Forums because, just checked out of curiosity. Man so cringy. A bunch of retarded NEETs with no life who are convinced they produced a meme president by pimping him on social networks 24/7. Ultimate faggotry.

/thread

everyone knows democracy in America doesnt exists

canadababy's first election

are there any grown up canadians on the internet?

As cynical as it is, this is correct. We are not a democracy, nor are we supposed to be. We are a federated republic, which is an intentionally very indirect form of democracy. The Founding Fathers were wise in not giving administration to the country to your average Americans, especially given such democratic decisions as Colombia and its war.

The electoral system has a few problems:
-In all but two states, all of a state's votes go to one candidate, and in one of those two states, they gerrymandered it so that it will always be 100% Republican. It should be "got 60% of the votes? Get 60% of the electoral votes". This should be in the constitution.
-Districts inside of states should not be decided by states. It should be part of an election commission that isn't subject to the elected officials it affects.

It has some good things, too:
-A state's representation is the same regardless of how many of its citizens voted. A state with 50% voter turnout still has just as much weight as if it had 100%. This is a very big deal in a country with minorities who may not vote for either major candidate
-small states have a bigger say, you cannot favor only large population centers and win the presidency. Big states are just the cornerstone

I would only be willing to do away with the electoral college entirely if it was replaced with mandatory voting.

But all that, except maybe the robot part, applies to Trump too.

Popular vote hasn't even been finished being calculated yet.

5 times IIRC

>in one of those two states, they gerrymandered it so that it will always be 100% Republican
this is true. as soon as obongo won eastern nebraska in 2012, republicans immediately gerrymandered it so it'd never happen again.

It's essentially how your great parliamentary system decides on a PM.

Not really, no. His lies aren't meant to be taken seriously, all his supporters know he's powerless to force Mexico to pay for a wall, for instance. They just want him to say that shit and follow the general idea once elected, not to follow it to the letter.

And he's not a corporate stooge, he's the corporate guy who interacts with the stooges.

This time was the fourth time.

A Trump presidency is a good thing, an inevitable progression of the absurd that is conservatism in America. His overwhelming failure as a President, an assurity from every objective predictive aspect, will be the proverbial rope that hangs modern conservatism in America. This will result in a cyclic political realignment and a more rational, non-mentally challenged conservative group will emerge, meanwhile cartoon groups like tea party, hardcore trump supporters (white trash), etc will go back to being socially alienated angry militias in perpetual poverty in backwater corners.

"Here is why the electoral college sucks:
Without the electoral college, every single vote would count exactly the same. No vote anywhere in the country would be worth more than any other vote. Now you may ask, but Raymond, isn’t it like this already?
NO. IT FUCKING IS NOT.
Take Wyoming for example. Wyoming has a population of 584,000 people. They also have 3 electoral college votes. This means that each 194,667 votes is worth one electoral college vote in Wyoming. Now let’s look at California. California has a population of 38.8 million people and 55 electoral college votes. This means that it takes 705,455 votes for each electoral college vote.
A VOTE IN WYOMING IS WORTH 3.5X MORE THAN A VOTE IN CALIFORNIA.
It literally takes 3.5 times more votes to get 1 electoral vote in California than it does in Wyoming. How tf is that fair?
Don’t come in here and tell me how it’s the best system and without it the only determining factor would be certain cities. How does that even make sense? Without it, a vote in New York City is worth the exact same amount as a vote in any other city, or town, regardless of population. I personally would like my vote to count for exactly the same as anyone else. My vote shouldn’t count as less because I live in a more densely populated city."

After this I kinda agree with people who bitch about electoral college votes or whatever they're called.

Direct democracy like that doesn't really make sense for a head of government in a federal republic. Not that the electoral college system isn't a meme but popular vote is an even bigger meme.

Maybe we could have a return to a Tory-style Burkean conservativism in the US.

>a vote in New York City is worth the exact same amount as a vote in any other city, or town, regardless of population
And since there are a whole lot more of them in New York City they get to have more of the final say, marginalizing rural voters. I agree it certainly shouldn't be winner-takes-all by states but disposing of it outright is silly.

>How tf is that fair?

Uh, it's not and it's supposed to not be?

Do you have any idea how much influence California has in American politics? Nobody wants them to have an overwhelming voice in the presidential vote, too.

This is no different from the fact that all Californians only get two senators, same as all Wyomans (I have no idea what people in Wyoming call themselves). Some parts of the federal government should not be fair to let some peopl have a voice in the first place.

Can it be compared to EU?

American Federalism actually can be compared to what I assume the EU wishes it were, given a common currency and steamlined interstate commerce/customs with the rest of domestic law being pretty much handled at the State level.

would not feel bad at all if California broke off from the US and drowned into the ocean desu.

Would you be saying this if the exact opposite had happened?

Probably, because I've been saying it through four elections.

How would you get your gibsmedat farm subsidies without us?

That wouldn't resolve your inferiority complex.

uhm she didnt win popular vote either but it was closer bing.com/search?q=Election 2016 results&form=CNTPNH&SuppressPopnow=1

>bing

Wow, this is the first time ever I see a link to a bing search.

better then nothing

it digs up more porn then google what can i say

Qe are not a democracy. We are a REPUBLIC. Electoral college prevents states like California and New York deciding everything for the nation.

no it's divided by states, idiot

oh really, i need to check it out then. more porn means better technology

well the searches seemed to be more efficient and it ha a nice layout

>lose
>still trying to act like you won

pretty funny tbqh

Not what I'm seeing on Google.

not all votes are counted yet. they are delaying 3 states were trump won.

where*

I'm seeing a roughly 300,000 vote lead and >99 precincts counted.

Also most of those uncounted are in blue Washington.

I am a Canadian American.

Electoral college is a great thing. Without it Calishits, Jew Yorkers and Massholes would control the entire nations policies for eternity. I wish Canada has a similar system
Faggots in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal control the entire nation. Praries get fucked over. So does Yukon and the NWT and Atlantic Canada. Retards like a drama teacher who has done nothing to improve the economy or anything else except make it an even more SJW infested and DUDE WEED. And he wants to roll back the relaxation of gun laws under Harper.

I want Canada to be great again. I want the Gurinderjeets, Pakis, Mudslimes and Somali niggers and niggers in general to fuck off. No problem with East asians btw. They are highly educated and make a shitton of money seldom comitting crime.

Democracy FPTP is shit.

Canada was and always be founded as an anglo nation. It was not built on multiculturalism. Pierre Trudeaub introduced that shit in the 1970s and he can fuck himself. One of the worst PMs Canada has had.

>east asians making shittons of money
that's probably vancouver?

Oh my god is this bait. . .

every canadian needs to read this

This. We are not a democracy.

>I want Canada to be great again. I want the Gurinderjeets, Pakis, Mudslimes and Somali niggers and niggers in general to fuck off
Kek. I love the fact that most Canadians would probably tell you to fuck off for saying this.

Yeah, we should let Spiclifornia and New Yorkenya decide who our next president should be.

I love the smell of salty maple syrup in the morning

btw, the states elect the president in the US, not the people

Even if Hillary won the popular vote using it as an argument is stupid. Both campaigns were fought to win with the electoral system so if it were with the popular the results would have been impossible to predict different as the entire skew of votes would be different. Think of it as there were many Hillary supporters in Texas and many trump supporters in California but they didn't vote because they felt it wouldn't make a difference but if the election was based on the popular vote they would have voted which would have changed everything

I copied my entire reddit post instead of just writing oops

They both campaigned to win the electoral college not the popular vote.
He won.
