/prod/ - Music Production General

Fresh /prod/ thread, this time with new OP and somewhat less known Lunga picture.

Talk about music production, composition, songwriting and audio engineering.

Upload clyps on

or any other similar website. Give and receive feedback.

DO NOT post Soundcloud, YouTube or any other links where you are not anonymous (unless somebody asks you for it). That is considered self promotion and will usually result in a bad feedback.

Since pastebin is no more, and since I'm the OP, I'll post some links to YouTube channels I find useful for learning.

Also, forgot a key thing:

>Previous thread:

now THATS an OP

BusyWorksBeats has turned into shit all of a sudden tbrh.

Its like 5 people just posting random tutorials now.
I hope Game fixes this soon, he's one of my favourites.
Even if he's constantly shilling his website. You can tell he appreciates his community.

Trying to finish this off by tonight. Not sure I like the kicks though.

>the lead is a little painful to listen to
>bass is even worse, it hurts
>bass also completely dominates and clashes with other frequencies
>that high EQ hat or something is also annoying

Yeah, hurts pretty bad t b h. Keep practicing. Learn more about EQ.

whats the best fl studio tutorial? I'm trying to get into sampling and downloaded best of jazz vol 2 and would like to learn how to make beats with fl studio

Sampling : www44.zippyshare.com/v/j6dkUO3P/file.html

Testing: www44.zippyshare.com/v/WO93cVlo/file.html

Mixing:

Just something I've been playing around with, the links posted were my procedural steps. Feedback is appreciated my dudes.

Sample for anyone wondering, was Yowler, by Yowler. Check them out, they're a great artist.

do you guys recommend me the Komplete Kontrol s61?

soundcloud.com/empirerecords999/darklanta

a bit repetetive and a bit bass heavy maybe?

worst shit I've ever heard on /prod/
fuck off

Check out the OP. SeamlessR has good tuts. Also watch videos from Image Line. Reading manual is also always good.

hardcore. finish it and then make another one. then another

What does Sup Forums think of my Radiohead remix? (It's Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors!)

clyp.it/ewh3rzna

I like it. Would be great with some vocals on top

Not a fan of the drums. You've got a nice chilled out/psych base so make the drums fit in with the groove

Heres mine hope you guys don't mind a bit of dnb
clyp.it/0sbb5ujn

Any advice on mixing the sounds? I've been trying for a while now to make the ringy bit fit in with the bass

>pronounce moog as moog by accident
>people in the music store start laughing at me
fuck my shit up lads

H-how is it pronounced then?

"Eenseeckoorytiee"

wtf

In all seriousness it's supposed to rhyme with "vogue"

nah, this isnt good
this is goddamn this is awesome
mid-song feels very empty (0:54 - 1:52) tho
i'm in love with this guitar
sample is good and how you pulled it off is nice too
digging this bass a lot
i think you should drop the drums @ 1:14 and add something else to go with @ 1:29, otherwise it's all good
checking out Yowler later
too much high frequencies going on, it's unpleasant to listen to
not a big fan of these drums too

here's mine

trying to figure out if i like the lead synth sound on this and cant really figure out the mixing/eq. not sure if im just over analyzing it or what but yeah constructive criticism would be cool

Guitar sounds like that creepy first human recording of a person singing.

while i agree with the others on this being bad/less than ideal, i wouldn't discourage you from continuing it. some parts are cool. even if there weren't any good parts id still recommend you keep at it. you cant make anything good without makign some shit stuff.

look into eq and get rid of the super-stock sounds

To be fare the only way people actually figure this out is by visiting the moog store or watching the moog documentary

So many people pronounce it wrong

>who here on a "I'll make it or kys myself" train?

me

What is this meme with "making it" actually? Are you americans on crack? Nigga for example in order to "make it" I'd need tons of money, it's not the other way around and don't come up with yer "muh stars started from the bottom"-shit because it's so fucking controlled and anorganic as it can get because of culture of small dick and small brain

>tfw barely produce anything because I'm waiting to get my midi controller
>thinking that I will get productive as fuck when I start using it
>well, it's kinda true I guess, since it's too annoying to record with PC keyboard because of latency and I can't get my ideas out as fast

But oh boy, if I'm wrong and stay unproductive even after that...

I'm surprised and very happy there's a general for this. As a would-be producer of 5 months i'm finding pretty much every link in the OP helpful

I literally just made my first beat, how did I do, any suggestions to make it suck less?
clyp.it/u2v03f0d

I don't want to be 'famous' i just want to get paid for my work. That to me is making it.

for the love of god is there a protools torrent that works and doesn't have trojans?

this sounded a lot better when I was in FL Studio, what the fuck

export as wav

What DAW should I use to make electronic music? Something like Yung Gud or Benga, but I realize I would need a lot of practice first.

Sorry if this is a meme question but I can't find the answer anywhere on here.

I don't know who Yung Gud is but with a name like that there can be only one answer.

Fruityloops.

Loop it
Chop it up
Add bass
Add lead
Add occasional sxxy femme vox
Add some filtering and shit
Export as wav
Repost

He uses Ableton, nigger

...

You're just proving that you're a nigger.

What DAW has a "cool" userbase, according to your nigger preferences?

he's just joking man

Sony ACID Pro its trash but hey i was using it for years xD

>Sony ACID Pro
My nigga. I'm still rocking the 2002 version today!

Not trying to derail the thread with a political debate but America has a very free market system where innovation and good business practices. Anybody is able to make it on their own merits, maybe it works that the way you described in a country with less freedom.

>What DAW has a "cool" userbase, according to your nigger preferences?
Reason of course.

>where innovation and good business practices are rewarded*

He looks like more of an Elektron/Eurorack guy tbqh.

First C&C clyp.it/nn3izfzu

It's supposed to be for a pregnancy test ad kek

alright, let me finish finding my way around the program
I'm coming at this from a rock background so I'm pretty much clueless, I bookmarked the links from the pasta for later use since I'm about to go to sleep

Why did you delete your post and change the link? I listened to it, it was ok.

I think I will rename the executive file in crash.exe

the workflow is very intuitive and the looks are simply perfect for an utalitarian autist like me but yeah it crashes when you try to record longer than 8 minutes on average

innovation, sure.

First clip abruptly cut off.

also is FL any good when it comes to producing rock, I only downloaded (several) DAWs since I have no access to drums or a bass guitar, FL is just the first I'm toying with

I honestly thought that was intentional. Just making sure.

I lolled, here's a better version for you.

>the workflow is very intuitive and the looks are simply perfect for an utalitarian autist like me but yeah it crashes when you try to record longer than 8 minutes on average
I only ever use it for looping shit, if I want to record live audio I use Ardour.
That version I posted a pic of works perfectly in a virtual machine, so I can still use it in Linux.

Kek, saving that. Thanks.

How does this synth patch sound? Yes it's a Zelda song, I was noodling and stumbled on it.

clyp.it/cg2i2ers

bump from page 10.

anyone know of a good lo-fi drum kit?

Gimme ten minutes I've got a good vinyl drums pack, I'll upload it somewhere.

Get old samples and process them yourself. A lot of those mid-late 80s rom drum machines sound like shit.

user delivers.
ufile.io/62991

thanks man
I found one earlier but it's way too quiet and sounds like shit (and not in a good way)

clyp.it/ujesii5g
Little something i started making after listening to more and more boards of canada.

A bunch of synth manufacturers had making these smaller sized synths for almost a decade now, yet keyboard stand companies aren't making suitable stands for them.

Why the fuck is this happening????

Gap in the market right there user. Go get rich.

First time mixing this style. Was hoping to get tips or critiques. Thanks a lot guys.

clyp.it/3kor1ezz

I record all my live instrumentation and vocals in audacity and do all my mixing and drum programming in FL. I downloaded an awesome pack for metal style drums.

This is my clip for drum sounds.

100% brutal.

Guitar that comes in at 2:44 seems a bit loud.

this..... is my mastahpeece

clyp.it/xkowmwsg thoughts??

Something else I did. Was messing around with the whole neosoul rnb vibe. Just a short clip. Still needs to be mixed though.

I would add another snare in that that has kinda of pooping rolling groove to in parts to push the song along more personally. Sounds alright overall though. Bass is a little loud for my taste.

i made a simple clip distortion or something but that's so much time to learn to make this shite when i'd rather just make the music

and then i found out that max4live does exactly what i've been wishing existed and i was happy but then i found out what it costs somebody plz just give me money so i don't have to get a job why is making music so fucking expensive this is fucking bullshit

>I would add another snare in that that has kinda of pooping rolling groove to in parts to push the song along more personally

wat?

on what beats? the claps altenate 3 1 2

>pooping rolling groove

dont just put them on the down beats. get an off beat rhythm going and turn them down low. It feels to computerized is all im saying

woops forgot the link

clyp.it/cpw5lne4

ok gotchu now
yeah i need to take a drum programming master class because i really have trouble making myself sit down and study from a resource

also fyi down beat refers to the first beat of a measure and it's in 4/4

Whenever I program drums I envision how a drummer would actually play. If its not possible for a human to do it then I wont write. Also if you have a swing slider I would turn it up a bit to add some of that groove.

this

i cant envision it i guess, and sure as hell cant play it myself
not aware of any swing sliders on ableton or what they would do

I guess what I mean is on 4/4 measure dont only drop stuff on the 1 2 3 4 do it on the 1 e and uh 2 e and uh 3 e and uh 4 e and uh. the es ands and uhs are also equally important.

>Whenever I program drums I envision how a drummer would actually play.

>tfw got trigger pads for tapping beats in live.

ableton.com/en/blog/get-swing-drum-programming-tips/

Good shit man. For me its damn near impossible t tap out metal beats.

>ableton.com/en/blog/get-swing-drum-programming-tips/
ok cool will check this out tomorrow
i've tried programming swing manually and it's gone alright

>Good shit man. For me its damn near impossible t tap out metal beats.
Just slow it down while you're tapping it in.

what is a metal beat
