20% of the French population lives in Île de France

>20% of the French population lives in Île de France
So why doesn't France have an electoral college like America does? If a president wants to win the elections, he just needs to win the vote in Paris and two or three other cities.

>20% of the people live in the South

Thus, in a functioning democracy, people in the North should get more attention, because there are more people there. Civics 101.

Also don't forget that Trump tweeted his feelings about the electoral college too. If Trump had won the popular vote and lost the election, you and all other Trump supporters would 100% be whining about it. Have some integrity.

If Hillary had won the lost vote and won the election, you and all other Hillary supporters would not mention any word of it. Have some integrity.

>it's another thread about America episode

Just rename this board already.

The electoral college does not protect states' rights at all.
You could win the presidency with 11 states.

The notion that it protects states' rights is ridiculous tbqh.

France is a unitary state, the US is a Federation

People who live in smaller states have more voting power than people who live in larger ones.

niggers and shitskins live there.

Reminder, Trump won both votes

The electoral college wasn't conceived to protect states' rights. It was formed by Alexander Hamilton who wanted a safety net between the general public and the election of the commander in chief.

And yes, while people in smaller states have more voting power, you can easily win the presidency with a fifth of the states (i.e., CA, NY, IL, OH, FL, etc).

To add insult to injury, the electoral college has been shown to not improve the significance of smaller states. Presidential candidates still don't give a fuck about Wyoming.

It's a system that does both: it rejects the rights of the people and the rights of the states. Just as you could win the presidency with a fifth of the states, you could also win the presidency with a fifth of the vote. That's right, a person can win the general election with only 20% of the population voting for him.

It's a retarded system that might have made sense in the 18th century but for now, the best way is to just vote directly. Location shouldn't determine the strength of your vote. We're all American at the end of the day.

Because France wants strong centralization

Clinton won the popular vote. All the vots which remain to be counted will make the difference even larger.

No, I'm North Carolinian. You can go fuck off with Commiefornia. There is literally nothing wrong with the electoral college

>literally ignores my whole argument and starts yelling memes

I'm not from California either, you ignorant fuck.

vermont and wyoming are the smallest states. they arent swing states though, so they have absolutely no power

>can't even read
Honestly not surprising

>there is literally nothing wrong with the electoral college

Shows who the real illiterate retard here is.

>there are people who will defend the electoral college

Although i dont agree with the way americas politics work, the electoral college supposedly helps sway mob mentality so that the minority cant be so down trodden. Good idea but...

It at least draws politicians outside of giant cities to actually see the country they intend to run. If a popular vote is enacted, just go to New York, LA and chicago and say you love minorities and gays, then stay in power for 100+ years

>People in cities should be catered to while people in rural regions should be ignored because there's not as many of them

This is why Upstate New York is a barren wasteland while NYC is a burgeoning metropolis. This just helps promote inequality.

>Le direct democracy is a good idea meme.

DD is terrible but still better than your shit because at least commoners can understand how it works.

PROTIP: Democracy doesn't exist to elect the best candidate or make the best decisions. It's actually been proven to be extremely poor at doing this. It exists to trick people into thinking they have a say in politics so they don't get pissed and riot.

nah. we give so much of our tax money to you and you hoard it all away for yourselves and fight for more arrests to keep prisons, the only businesses that pay you anymore, alive. The MTA is underfunded by billions of dollars and cuomo is giving millions to beg and keep factories around upstate.

It protects state sovereignty, the states elect the federal representatives not the people. Otherwise states and their benefits would be obsolete and that leads to shitty Euro-socialist populism.

>electoral college
This anti-democratic thing ?

Well, our politicians are as shitty are the americans, so this is not really important I guess

>Civics 101
Everyone is represented the same way in a proportional system

>the will of the people should be ignored because my candidate won
