Nope. What is it?

Cool chart! Do you have a link to that Omar S?

YG and John Zorn should be higher. Cool list anyway. Did you hear the new AutorYno?

If you're gonna have a Young Thug album just have one.
If you're gonna have a Young Thug album just have one.

I feel like I'm missing out on something with how much I despise elseq.

>1. King - We Are King
>2. Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids - We Be All Africans
>3. Ukandanz - Awo
>4. Xiu Xiu - Plays the Music of Twin Peaks
>5. Jack DeJohnette, Ravi Coltrane, Matthew Garrison - In Movement
>6. Steve Lehman - Sélébéyone
>7. Mulatu Astatke & The Black Jesus Experience - Cradle of Humanity
>8. Ophie & Da Websites + Bo Hog & Da Rooters - Bahamian Rake-n-Scrape
>9. Maxwell - blackSUMMERS'night
>10. Jungle by Night - The Traveller

Damn, I can understand not liking elseq, but despising it?

elseq is superior Autechre album, don't despise it pls

Drove me mental. What can I say? It is the personification of overindulgence.

1. The Savage Young Taterbug - Shadow of Marlboro Man
2. Anna Högberg Attack - Anna Högberg Attack
3. The Avalanches - Wildflower
4. Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids - We Be All Africans
5. The Gerogerigegege - 燃えない灰 (Moenai Hai)
6. The Dead C - Trouble
7. Accidente - Pulso
8. Death Grips - Bottomless Pit
9. Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
10. David Bowie - Blackstar
11. Ghost Camp - Great Lakes
12. George Smallwood - Loser
13. Silent Servant - Hypnosis in the Modern Age Vol. II
14. Dauðyflin - Drepa Drepa

What's the album with the black woman having an orgasm?

Are you just talking about the sheer volume of material?

No.

In my opinion the music has a very shallow understanding of experimentalism. Rarely pursues what is actually sonically interesting in favour of a black and white "this is contrary to that" sound.

Kilo kish

Hmm, I don't really know if it's intentionally trying to be experimental, as crazy as that may. sound. To me it's just continuing the trend (though obviously it's a bit more "maximized" ) of generative music that people Brian Eno sort of set the foundation for in the 20th century. The idea that these machines that they've set up thru certain rules sets could just run and create music forever thru subtle evolving and shifting layers. Yet sat the same time there seems to be jammy, live interaction aspect to it as well which sets it apart from some of their other work. Where it differs from the more academic works/composers is that these methods are filtered by influences of club / dance music, particularly rave and hip-hop (and dub techno on the last disc)

I dunno, there does seem to be real method to the madness. Almost every track on elseq seems to set up a formula and then try to wrest out of it or deteriorate over time using self-canceling algorithms.

1. Horse Lords - Interventions
2. The Drones - Feelin Kinda Free
3. Årabrot - The Gospel
4. Death Grips - Bottomless Pit
5. Matmos - Ultimate Care II
6. David Bowie - [Blackstar]
7. John Zorn - The Painted Bird
8. Nails - You Will Never Be One of Us
9. Ka - Honor Killed the Samurai
10. Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool

I agree that there's intent there. It's just channeled towards pretty shallow ends, I think.

Jesu / Sun Kil Moon Collab
Death Grips - BP

Well I suppose that's where we'll just have to agree to disagree. The timbres on display and the ways in which the pieces evolve and decay over time are very compelling to me.

im checking out books 28 and 29 now
also what is it about maxell you like

I'm aware I'm in the minority, so maybe it's just my stupid ass.

The production is perfect. It's actually perfect. Every sound and influence is meticulously selected and arranged within an atom of each other. It doesn't merely augment his vocals, it has a dialogue with them. It harmonises and synchronises with them more than any other pop album released this year. 1990x especially blurs the line between man and machine.

Plus it's just incredibly sexy.

you a writer? you described your love for it better than anyone else I've seen on this board

No. I've often thought I should do music reviews.

But that would require effort. Eh...

I'm the same in all honesty.
I thought Maxwell was just decent after 5 or so listens. Maybe I should try again?

If 5 listens didn't convince you I think you just didn't like it. I mean, if you want to give it another shot with what I said in mind try Lake By the Ocean and 1990x

Will do. Any other thoughts on my list btw?

Which one was yours?

that one

...

Not super into your chart, if I can be honest. Haven't listened to a lot of it and the stuff I have I wasn't super enamoured with. Other than Xiu Xiu (which is on my list) I think Flaga, Gucci, Kendrick, Beyonce and YG are the only good things you got here.

I really REALLY didn't like the new Ty Segall and Perturbator albums. Sorry, bub. You need some jazz, I think.

I'm actually not all that well versed in Jazz. Hit me with the better Jazz albums of this year if you'd like.

Well from my list you got We Be All Africans and In Movement. Selebeyone and Cradle of Humanity are jazz-adjacent. Other than that...

Pink Freud Plays Autechre (which I hated, but for reasons discussed you might dig)
Vijay Iyer & Leo Smith - A Cosmic Rhythm With Each Stroke
Anna Högberg Attack - Anna Högberg Attack
The Trio Project - Spark
Snarky Puppy - Culcha Vulcha
Fire! - She Sleeps, She Sleeps
Fire! Orchestra - Ritual
Antoine Fafard - Sphere
Jim Rotondi - Dark Blue
Henry Threadgill's Ensemble Double Up - Old Locks and Irregular Verbs
Rafał Gorzycki Trio - Playing
Sarah Bernstein Quartet - Still / Free

>Lanark Artefax
That's my EP of the year. So damn good

well shit. I've got some work to do

Anything from Antonie Fafard down is not super essential. If you want a streamlined list I'd stick to Pink Freud, Vijay Iyer & Leo Smith, The Trio Project and Fire! Orchestra.

I got Pink Freud, Vijay Iyer & Leo Smith, Jim Rotondi and Fire! Orchestra

I look forward your updated chart.

Fire! Orchestra is from 2013 and Pink Freud is from 2015 so I've read

Not those particular albums. Maybe they were recorded in those years, but they weren't released until now.

Oh okay I see

Are you trying to tell me you have Atrocity Exhibition?

Confirmed.

thank you

...

I can't find a single enjoyable moment in half of your list

New john zorn!? I had no idea. Thanks for the heads up

That rotondi was poopy but i'm looking forward to hearing the threadgill.
