why are the rockies perpetually mediocre when they always seem to have such great hitters in their lineup? I know that they pitch in coors half of the season, but so does the opposing pitcher.

It's not just Coors though, their pitching has generally been awful on the road too. The owner just refuses to pay for decent pitchers. It's been a shame to watch so many great hitters have their primes wasted.
